CONSTITUTION OF THE WOMEN S CLUB VOLLEYBALL TEAM PREAMBLE We, The College of New Jersey Women s Club Volleyball Team establish this Constitution for the purposes of providing competitive play of the sport of volleyball to students of The College of New Jersey. ARTICLE I Name of the Organization Section 1: The name of this organization shall be The College of New Jersey Women s Club Volleyball Team, hereinafter referred to as the Women s Club Volleyball Team. ARTICLE II Purpose of the Organization Section 1: The purpose of the Women s Club Volleyball Team is to provide students of the College of New Jersey a place to play volleyball competitively. Members will be able to participate in practices and compete in tournaments with other collegiate teams. ARTICLE III Qualifications for Membership Section 1: Every student at The College of New Jersey can become a member of the Women s Club Volleyball Team. Team members are defined as active members interested in competitively playing the sport of volleyball. Section 2: Except as otherwise provided in this section, student organizations are open and limited to all TCNJ students who meet the criteria of these organizations. No student who meets the other criteria of an organization can be denied membership on the basis of a protected class: age, race, creed, color, national origin, nationality, ancestry, sex/gender (including pregnancy), marital status, civil union status, domestic partner status, familial status, religion, affectional or sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, atypical hereditary cellular or blood trait, genetic information, liability for service in the Armed Forces of the United States, or disability. Exceptions include: a. Religious qualifications may be required by organizations whose aims are primarily sectarian. b. Sororities or fraternities that have been traditionally single sex organizations may limit membership to a single sex or gender expression. c. Club Sports teams recognized and advised through the College recreation program may limit membership to a single sex or gender expression provided there is a co-existing team of the same or substantially similar sport for the opposite sex or gender expression.
ARTICLE IV Officers of the Organization Section 1: The elected officers of this organization shall be: President Vice-President Treasurer Secretary Section 2: Executive Board 2.1: The executive board members must be at least second year students when they assume office and have been actively involved in the team for at least one academic semester prior to the term in office. 2.2: The executive board members shall be elected by a majority vote of the entire team. The nomination shall be announced one week prior to elections 2.3: The term of office shall be 1 academic year expiring at the annual Women s Club Volleyball Team Wine and Cheese Party. Section 3: It shall be the duty of the President: 1. Organize Tournamnent and Scrimmage Schedule 2. Attend Student Finance Board (SFB) meetings 3. Report to 4. Lead Executive Board Meetings 5. Organize for Spring and Fall activities fair 6. Update equipment when necessary 7. Talk to potential players 8. Attend introduction to club sports event during freshmen welcome week Section 4: It shall be the duty of the Vice-President: 1. Assist the president in their duties 2. Advertise for the team (flyers, posters, etc.) 3. Coordinate necessary supplies for tournaments and scrimmages
4. Run track practices 5. Organize fundraising Section 5: It shall be the duty of the Treasurer: 1. Keep track of all financial transactions 2. Attend SFB meetings when necessary Section 6: It shall be the duty of the Secretary: 1. Gather all necessary forms and charts 2. Create updated contact sheets 3. Organize secret sister 4. Keep all documents (contract, executive, board duties etc) and website up to date Section 8: Positions stated in Article IV, Section 1 constitute the Executive Board. ARTICLE V Membership Section 1: Application for Membership: the Women s Club Volleyball Team encourages any student who is interested in the purpose of the Women s Club Volleyball Team to contact the club via Email. Section 2: Types of Membership include team members and travel team members a. Team Members: Team members are those who come regularly to practice and abide by the terms stated in the team contract. Team members will have one vote on all issues brought up to the team. There is no limit on the number of team members. Team members include those on the executive board and the travel team as well. b. Travel Team Members: The members of the travel team will be appointed by the Executive Board. Travel team members will be chosen based on both their ability and dedication. Section 4: Impeachment shall be defined as the formal process of bringing charges to an Executive Board officer in order to remove that individual from her position. 4.1: Grounds for impeachment are as follows and must be approved by a 2/3 majority vote of the entire team: a. Malfeasance b. Negligence in Office
c. Not meeting duties prescribed by the Constitution d. Excessive absence without prior notice 4.2: All elected and confirmed officers of The College of New Jersey Women s Club Volleyball team are subject to this procedure should any of the aforementioned charges be brought forth by an active member of the team of executive officer. Any member being charged shall be notified in writing by the President of the impeachment charges. The accused office holder has the opportunity to the offer their resignation of request an impeachment proceeding. This formal process will allow for the officer in question the opportunity to refute any charges that are raised against them. Once the charges and officer in questions testimony is offered, the team shall consider the question of removal from office. In the event of the President s impeachment, the Vice President will assume the duty of notifying the President in writing of impeachment charges. Section 5: Elections: positions are open to all active members. The election will be coordinated by the president. If the president is running for a position, the Vice President will oversee the election for the position that the President is running for. a. Shall be held at the end of the spring semester. b. Job descriptions for each office must be made available two weeks prior to the start of the nomination process. c. Nominations will take place one week prior to the election meeting. d. Prior to voting, each nominee will give a 1-2 minute speech and answer any questions from the other team members. e. Voting will be closed ballot f. A simple majority vote will determine the winner ARTICLE VI Financial Provisions Section 1: The Women s Club Volleyball Team s events shall be funded by the Student Finance Board and fundraising. The team will also collect dues at the beginning of the fall semester to use for team activities. ARTICLE VII Meetings Section 1: Members will participate in practice twice a week. Executive board will meet when necessary after practices.
ARTICLE VII Advisor Section 1: Advisors shall be selected from the faculty or staff and will be a liaison between the Women s Club Volleyball team and the administration. ARTICLE IX Amendments Section 1: Any amendments to the constitution must be ratified by a 2/3 vote of present active members. Section 2: Amendments must be submitted to the Governmental Affairs Committee of the Student Government for final approval.
