(So whoever buys the table will get to be in the drawing) There will be some other prizes in that drawing as well. There is no other way to reserve a table. We will have the dessert auction again this year, so all of you great dessert artists let us see your art. We want everyone to come out and enjoy the (Continued on page 5) New Year s Day Run Outgoing Secretary Letter 1 5 President s 2/3/5 Registration Form WWA Dues 4 5 HAPPY HAPPPY NEW YEAR PAGE We brought in the New Year with on a very nice morning with a mild temperature for a New Years Day run. Some boats launched at Walters Ferry boat launch while others chose to use Celebration Park. A toast was made and glasses were raised above smiling faces. Now returning to point of origin, where the burgers and hot dogs were patiently waiting. Approximately 13 boats were there. Eleven boats made the run. No rocks that were reported. This run is typically done by the Outgoing President. But since the Duttons expected to be out of town, they turned it over to Shay White, the past president. Then when Shay came down ill, he asked John Bryant, our new president, to chair this run. John took over at the last minute and did an excellent job! Thank you John for doing such a good job. That is one of the great things about the WWA When extra help is needed someone is there willing to see that everything happens, Maybe not as in the past, but sometime we find a better way..

President s Message I would like to welcome all members, new and old to the year of the Western Whitewater Association. Hope everyone had a Happy New Year and a safe one. I would like to personally thank our 2017 Past President, Bill Dutton, on a job I believe that was well done. I know he put in a lot of extra time and effort into the job, over and above his real job. Hopefully we all feel the same way. Bill has been way more than helpful to me. His personal help to me working on the banquet and other things has been great. So once again, thank You Bill and let s don t forget to thank Anne, also. All of us know it helps to have your significant other help out. Thanks, also to Anita and Jim Shore for everything they have done for the club and me. I am looking forward to your help and support in the year to come. Thanks, also to Shay White for his support of the Western Whitewater Association, putting in extra time and effort as a WWA spokesman taking time of his own to help keep our rights to Jet Boat on the rivers we all love to run. And not to be forgotten, thanks to all the other members who have stepped-up to participate in holding office, serving on the Board, working on the banquet, hosting river runs and any other club functions. I am personally looking forward to working with all of you, past and present, to help keeping this club going forward. We all know the strength of a club lies in its participation and volunteers of it s members getting involved where ever you can, big or little, it all helps the club. WWA has many functions to volunteer and participate in. January New Years Day run. Toast to the river Gods, Snake River at Walters Ferry, burgers and hot dogs to follow. Late February Chili Run, Snake River, Walters Ferry. March Glenn s Ferry, Snake River Run. Lots of people camping out at Three Island State Park for extra days. Steak Barbeque day of the run, with breakfast the next morning. April Salmon River run, above Riggins to Buckskin Bill s water conditions permitting and assisting in the Riggins Jet Boat Race, usually adding up to extra days on the river. President s Message Continued from Page 2 May Possible Weed Run, usually up the Salmon River above Riggins and possibly on the Snake in Hells Canyon. Hopefully we can put this back together with the Forest Service. May or June Payette River run, Horseshoe Bend ID, Barbeque burgers and Hot Dogs to follow. Late June Skills Day out of Nyssa Oregon to work with new boaters to help develop their skills, Barbeque to follow. September Hells Canyon, Pittsburg Landing, Confluence Run, extra days, great camping and steak feed and breakfast to follow. Late September Last year we had a first time run in which we took about 20 sine Disabled veterans on a boating and fishing trip in Hells Canyon from Pittsburgh Landing. This was an overnight trip. WWA members who provided their boat ad tie. I believe it left us with a great feeling to do this for our vets. Looking forward to putting this run together again this year. October Hammer Creek, (unofficial) Fish Derby, near White Bird Idaho on the Salmon River with Dutch Oven Pot Luck to follow. At the time of the Rapids Newsletter, we are still looking for some volunteers to help out with the February 3 Banquet. Please, feel free to call me at any time if able to help (Jon Bryant 208-250-3512, Anita Shore 208 Feb 2018 April 2018-459-7764 or Bill Dutton 208-377-5110) Please bear with me about my computer skills I really prefer to fishing (most of the time running the boat so my wife, Carey, can catch most of the steelhead) hunting, camping jet boating and being in the mountains. Sometimes it can be scary to volunteer to chair a run, but believe me, I am only a phone call away. If there is one thing that I ve learned about the club, just ask for help and it will show up. One of the things I would like to achieve this year is to have available a format for each run and what happens to make it easier for people to step up and chair a run. In closing, hope to see all of you at the 2018 February 3 banquet, Idaho Expo Building. This is our only fund raiser for the year to help the club fund the Barbeques throughout the year and to help support our right to run our boats on the rivers we love. Please take time to acquaint yourself with our new members and help them out where you can, so we can make them feel welcome to the club. Looking forward to seeing all of you and your yours, PAGE 3

Letter from Outgoing Secretary Well my friends, this will be my last newsletter. I have very mixed feelings about it. I will not miss the stress of trying to get this out in a timely manner. But I will miss communicating with all of you. At the last election, Debbie Thorson was voted to be the new Secretary/Treasurer/Rapids Editor. Debbie, I wish you all of the luck in this endeavor. Hopefully, you are more computer savvy than I. The results of the election were: President-Elect, Clyde Durham; Vice President, Jeff Higgins; Secretary/Treasurer, Debbie Thorson; the new Directors are: Randy Clagg, Bob Gray and Bob Hays. The following will be Directors the rest of this year: Dave Dickerson, Dave Horton and Jim Moore. Craig Lindquist is our new Alternate. (Thank you all for stepping up to fill these important positions). I especially want to say a big Thank You to John Bryant for moving from Vice President, directly to President. Also, a huge Thank You to his wife Carey. I know she will be right there to help John any time he needs help. James and I still plan to be active in the club, just in a different less stressful way. See you on the river. Anita Shore June 2018 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE (Continued from Page 3) we can make them feel welcome to the club.
