The Panthers ended the season in fifth place in the ACC after being predicted to finish ninth in pre-season coach s poll.this was Pitt s best season since 2003 when the Panthers went 26-6 and was named Big East Champions. ORCHARD RACKS UP NUMEROUS ACCOLADES Junior Amanda Orchard racked up conference, regional and national honors at the end of having a stellar 2014 season. The Lake Zurich, Ill. native earned an AVCA All-America honorable mention along with being named to the AVCA All-Region team and All-ACC First Team. The middle hitter was also named to the ECAC Division I All-Star First Team along with being named ACC Player of the Week during the season. The middle hitter led the ACC with a.431 hitting percentage, which also landed her sixth in the nation. She finished the season with 226 kills, 91 blocks, 71 digs and 21 service aces after competing in 107 sets for the Panthers. She put up 21 matches of hitting.400 or better and 14 matches of hitting.500 or above. CLESEN AND YEAZEL LAND ALL-ACC HONORS Seniors Delaney Clesen (L) and Kate Yeazel (RS) were both named to the All-ACC Second Team for their performances during the 2014 season. Clesen will finish her career ranking in the top 10 in two different categories at Pitt. She currently sits in the No. 2 spot on the Panthers all-time career digs list, putting up 1609 digs in her four years at the University while rounding out the top-10 in all-time service aces with 111. Yeazel had her best season as a Panther after finishing second on the team with 266 kills and ranking third in blocks per set (.70). The right-side hitter tallied 13 games of hitting doubledigit kills, including a 15 kill match against then ranked No. 4 Florida State. She will finish her career ninth all-time on Pitt s career block assists list with 234. National Votes For the first time since the 2009 season, Pitt received votes in the AVCA Division I National Coaches Poll. On November 10, the AVCA released that Pittsburgh received 40 votes, just 27 short of making into the top-25. Top 25- Win Pitt earned its first Top-25 win since 2005 with its 3-2 win at No. 25 Duke. Straight Sweeps The Pitt volleyball team recorded 17 wins by way of 3-set matches compared to only 10 in 2013. With her two solo blocks against NC State, Potts has also entered the top 10 in single season solo blocks with 20 this year. SERVICE WITH A SMILE Pitt ranks first in all ACC schools with its mark of 1.74 aces per set. Pitt sports three palyers in the top five including top ranked Lindsey Zitzke (0.39/set) along with Delaney Clesen and Maria Genitsaridi who are tied in the sixth spot with 0.33/set. CAN YOU DIG IT? Senior Delaney Clesen vaulted in Pitt s record books from off the charts to second in career digs with 1,609. Megan McGrane has held the top spot in that category since 2005 with 2,424. FOR THE KILL Sophomore Maria Genitsaridi recorded a career high 20 kills in the 3-2 upset over Duke on Nov. 7. The Greece native hit.333 on the night and also added 14 digs to notch her third double-double of the season. A BELL OF A START Freshman Mariah Bell made her first career start in the 3-2 upset over No. 25 Duke on Nov. 7. Bell recorded 10 kills, eight digs and two service aces in her first ever match as a Panther. She added seven more kills against Wake Forest in her second start on November 8, 2014. With her 22 combined kills against Georgia Tech and Clemson three games later, senior Jessica Wynn broke into the Pitt record book in the No. 10 spot in career kills. She now has 1,082 total career kills. 24/7 COURTSIDE ASSISTANCE Lindsey Zitzke and Jenna Jacobson racked up a combined 1,300 assists during the 2014 season, about 87% of the team total. The two girls notched 11.82 assists per set while the team s 13.61 overall mark was second in the ACC and sixth in the nation. Both setters have already entered the top-10 in Pitt history in career assists with Zitzke fourth at 3,572 and Jacobson just breaking into the No. 10 spot with 1,555. A KILLER ATTACK This season, the Panthers have offensively out-played their opponents. Pitt has recorded 1,575 kills compared to its opponents 1,162. Overall the Panthers took more swings than the opposition, recording 3,946 total attacks for 336 more. FOR THE RECORD Senior Lindsey Zitzke recorded two service aces against the Tar Heels but with her first she became the all-time career service ace leader in Pitt history and now sports a total of 179. IN FISH WE TRUST Entering his second season as head coach, Dan Fisher has the Pitt volleyball program heading in the right direction. With a combined record of 42-20 at Pitt thus far, Fisher s impact can already be felt as the team s 19 wins last season were the most since the program won 20 games in 2009. THE ROAD AHEAD Pitt s scheduled conference opponents this season went a combined 263-167 overall in 2013. Three ACC teams were ranked in the AVCA Coaches Preseason Poll, and conference-newcomer Louisville was a perfect 18-0 in league play last season. ADVENTURES ABROAD Two Panthers played for their respective national teams this past summer. Delaney Clesen participated in the USA Girls Junior National Championships, and Maria Genitsaridi is a two-year member of the Greek National Team. Head coach Dan Fisher traveled to Pula, Croatia OLD FRIENDS... Pitt returns substantial experience including eight starters and 11 letterwinners. Returning players include 2014 All-ACC Preseason Team selectee Jessica Wynn, who tallied a team-best 410 kills. Rising senior and USA Collegiate National Team participant Delaney Clesen also returns, bringing a career total of 1,122 digs heading into her senior year....and FROSH FACES Three new Panthers have joined the team, each after decorated high school careers. HEAD COACH DAN FISHER A proven winner on the collegiate and professional levels, Dan Fisher was named the new head coach of the women s volleyball program in January of 2013. Fisher is the eighth head coach in Pitt volleyball history, and guided the team to a winning season (19-14, 11-9 ACC) in his first year at the helm. 2014, Head Coach Won his 100th career game as a head coach in a 3-0 defeat of Duquesne on Sept. 12, 2014 Coached the team to 25 wins in his second year at Pitt; which were the most in a single season at Pitt since winning 20 games in 2009. Finished fifth in the ACC after being predicted to finish ninth in pre-season coach s poll Led the team to its first Top-25 win since 2005 (3-2 win at No. 25 Duke) Coached his team to 17 wins in 3-set matches compared to only 10 in 2013 Coached junior Amanda Orchard to a.431 hitting percentage ranking her 6th nationally, which eventually led her to earning an All-America honorable mention and being selected to the AVCA All- Region Team and All-ACC First Team.
