Big Island Overview More a sensual experience than a geological location the Big Island of Hawaii embraces more than 4000 square miles. Cattle ranching thrives as do coffee plantations. World famous Kona coffee originates on the big island. However it is tourism that dominates the future of the Kohala Coast. Much of the thrust of this booming market activity has been affluent visitors who seek the amenities of the quality resorts.
