The Newsletter Date October 5, 2012 PTO President s News Welcome Back Seth Paine Families!!! Seth Paine Elementary School PTO Newsletter Upcoming Events Oct. 8 Columbus Day No School Oct 12 Hats off for Cancer Day and Sonic Restaurant Night Oct 17 Early Release Oct 26 Freaky Friday Oct 27 Spooky Saturday Oct 22-26 Red Ribbon Week Oct 31 Halloween Parties/Parade Nov 2 Institute Day Nov 14 PTO meeting Nov 15 Early Release Nov 14 16 Book Fair Nov 21 23 Thanksgiving Break The first month is always such an adjustment at my house as we get back into the school routine. I hope that you are settling into the school year nicely. It was great to kick off the school year with our Back to School Picnic. I loved re-connecting with familiar faces and meeting new families. Seth Paine has so many exciting things going on that I want to highlight. The PTO is changing things up a bit this year and we hope that you like what you see. In terms of fundraising we have limited the number of times that we will ask you to sell something. Innisbrook, going on thru 10/9 is the only fall fundraiser. Additionally, we have added a no stress fundraiser option. If you prefer to make a donation to Seth Paine PTO in lieu or in addition to participating in traditional fundraising activities you may. Donations can be made by writing a check to Seth Paine PTO and putting DONATION on the memo line or online via the District 95 Education Foundation. Look for Donate Now button on Seth Paine PTO page and select Seth Paine School (the Dragon), follow the steps to donate. Your financial support is critical in order to offer grade level events like Revolutionary War Days for 5th grade and Teddy Bear Tea for 2nd, all school assemblies, after school enrichment, family events, Halloween fest, etc... New this year, Manna cards can be ordered monthly! Manna cards are gift cards that you purchase thru the PTO and the PTO is given a percent back on each purchase (varies per gift card). It is no additional cost to you. Check out the website for more details. Want to get involved and volunteer your time? You should have already received a classroom volunteer form from your students' room parent(s). Additionally, a general PTO volunteer form has been sent home and is also available on the website. Throughout the year volunteers will be recruited for specific events or activities. The PTO motto is the more the merrier! Whether you can spare an hour of time or more. It is a great way to meet other Seth Paine parents and have fun! I am looking forward to another spectacular year together at Seth Paine!!! Beth Slaughter PTO President

Page 7 of 8 First After-School Book Club a Homerun! Over 50 students attended Seth Paine's after-school book clubs on September 24th. The baseball-themed book clubs featured fun, food and friends. Our older students had a chance to participate in a rousing game of Jeopardy, testing their recall and insight into the book they read in preparation for the afternoon -- King of the Mound: My Summer with Satchel Paige. The younger students were treated to out-loud readings of Clemente and Batter Up, Wombat before they competed in their own Jeopardy game. Both groups received a surprise visit from ballpark vendors, complete with popcorn and apple juice. The afternoon concluded with the kids decorating their own baseball cookies, complete with licorice stitching. Stay tuned for information about our upcoming book clubs so your kids can join in the fun!
