From the President: Well the dinner date is set and the venue. 26th August, 7.00pm at the Prickly Cactus on the corner of George and Patterson St Launceston. RSVP to Melita on 6330 2426 no later than the 16th please. Remember this year we do have to RSVP as they do need numbers. A few northern members have offered accomodation if you are travelling up from down south just give me a call and I can put you in touch with them. We are once again combining with the Paints which will make for a fun night I am sure. Put your boogie shoes on, there are a group of us hitting a few night clubs and live music venues after the dinner and of course the more the merrier. Well done to those of you who held an Open day just recently. Its a hard time of year to display your horses and each stud did a wonderful job. It was great fun travelling down to the Southern Stud Tour. I hadn't been to Michelle and Greg's new home at Runnymede before. Ben was showing all how spritely he is by running up and down the fence and calling to his mares over on the hill. Michelle has some lovely mares in foal and it will be great to go back after the babies are born to see them. The next stop was Twilight Valley and what a treat to see "Pup" their lovely black and white stallion I hadn't seen Pup for about 12 years he also showed us there was life in the old boy yet, even if he hasn't got many teeth left!!! The Northern Tour a couple of weeks later kicked off at Joylene and Patricks stud at Bridgenorth. My new mare arrived just in time for me to quickly settle her in her paddock and then head off. Joylene has developed a new method of selling her horses just paint them with a for sale sign. On the white background the blue paint really stood out. We got to see Anawa under saddle again which was fantastic and Sahara and Joylene's new gelding put over some jumps. It was fabulous. It was also great to catch up with one of our "lifers" Leonie Hole and her family there. We then headed off to Vicki and Mal Hume's stud at Sidmouth. Vicki has a lovely set up and I am sure some of us went home with new ideas and dreams of how we would like the same. Mal cooks a mean sausage and think he was quite disappointed when his dog got a helping but he missed out. We also put Moneyman through his paces out in his paddock trying to get some action shots. The umbrella worked for awhile then it just became common place. Next stop was Helen and John Liddells stud back at Bridgenorth and there was only a couple of us left. Helen's filly foal of last season out of Kay Jay was oohed and ahhed over and some very rolly poly ponies greeted us at the fence down the road. We had a very impromptu stop to see my Shetlands and they really put on a display running across the paddock in a herd jumping ditches and generally running about with high jinks. The girls who were with me fell in love with Billie Dee who obligingly stood and warmed necks and hands as by this time it was getting cold. All in all I had a great time I hope everyone enjoyed themselves as well. It was great to see all the different types and at the Northern stud tour the different sizes we went from 16hh plus at Joylene's down to 8.3hh at mine. Thanks again to everyone once again you did the club proud. Well the show season fast approaches and there will be lots of foals arriving before to long. Don't forget to send in your new arrivals to Lisa. Oh and you may hear a little rumour about Riverton Lodge downsizing. Yes we are selling some of our Shetlands but instead of downsizing I guess you could say we are upsizing!! I have just purchased a chestnut and white Overo mare who I will breed from at a later stage. First of all I will be getting her going under saddle. So we now have five big uns at the Lodge and another on the way in December. I have a long way to go before I venture out into the ring with them if ever. But for the moment I am enjoying the time back in the saddle. Well thats all from me. Hope to see you all at the Dinner. Cheers - Melita
