Location Location Location Where you start and finish the day is important. You not only want the necessary comforts to make your stay pleasurable but you want to be in the heart of the park. Our Freeman Camp is the envy of anyone visiting Masai Mara, one of the benefits of operating with a Safari company that has been permanently based in the Masai Mara for over 25 years. Our camp is close to both the Talek river and the iconic Mara river for the migration crossings as well as being conveniently placed for other wildlife hotspots. Wildlife and in particular the fabulous big cats of the Mara are at their most active in the early hours of the morning before the heat of the day. Our camp location provides the best chance of finding and watching the action. Go Local, Be Connected Did you hear the latest about the five male cheetahs, the leopard cubs or the wildebeest crossing? I expect not, but we will have. Your safari experience is greatly enhanced if you have the benefit of up to date local knowledge. are part of the fabric of the Mara, when the jungle drums beat we are listening. It will be a normal day for us when a ranger, a conservation team or goat herder lets us know what is going on. Environmentally Aware It may be Africa but we apply and uphold the highest standards of eco-friendly design. The Freeman Camp is one of the few locations in the Masai Mara that is fully compliant to government and park eco requirements.
Planning When To Go The Masai Mara is close to the equator so there are 12 hours of daylight all year round. Temperatures are similar throughout the year at 25-28 degrees Celsius in the day and 10-13 degrees Celsius at night. There are Many Good Times to Visit The only time safaris don t operate is during the rainy months of April and May. The start of the year sees fewer visitors and therefore is preferred by those who value quietness and solitude. Wildebeest live in the Masai Mara all year round but if you want to see The Great Migration and river crossings then plan accordingly. But isn t it a disaster if it rains? Not at all, rainy and cloudy weather mean more dramatic skies and more daytime cat activity. When all is considered, there are no bad times to visit the Masai Mara except when operations close down during the long rains as higher rivers and muddy conditions make moving around more challenging.
