MERGUI ARCHIPELAGO THE MERGUI ARCHIPELAGO REMAINS ONE OF THE LAST UNTOUCHED PLACES ON EARTH. One of the last untouched tropical archipelagos with over 800 islands, it only opened to tourism in 1997, so much of this area still remains to be explored. Jungle clad islands, incredible waterfalls falling straight into the ocean, with magnificent white beaches and coral fringed beaches, the definition of a remote paradise.the flora and fauna of the Mergui Archipelago s vast wildlife remains undisturbed to this day. Picking up a guide for the trip through the archipelago allows you to explore further. The dramatic scenery continues underwater, with magnificent coral reefs around many of the islands. The snorkelling and scuba diving in this area is superb. Sharks, whale sharks, dolphins, manta rays, mobula rays and fish are prolific. Visit the Moken tribe, indigenous to the Mergui Archipelago. These gentle, peaceful people are still a source of fascination to anthropologists as they still cling to their traditional nomadic, hunter-gatherer existence. The Moken continue to live in complete harmony with nature, living mainly off shellfish, they also free dive for shellfish and sea cucumbers, and hand carve their wooden canoes. Finally, head to Nag Mann Island for that picture perfect barbeque under the incredible starry skies of the Andaman. The Mergui Archipelago remains one of the last untouched places on earth. Lampi Island lets you explore the ancient mangrove forests. Kayak through the tidal rivers, immersing yourself into the fragile eco-systems taking in the views and sounds of the rainforests. 09 OF 11
