21 January 2016 I Wet Weather Line 3878 0511 Head of Sport and Activities Mr Dave Capra Welcome back to the 2016 school year! I hope you had a fantastic holiday, an enjoyable Christmas and are looking forward to what the new year has to offer. The sporting year has begun before the school year for our cricketers and swimmers with the ATC Swim Club Camp run this week at Runaway Bay for our advanced swimmers and cricket clinics, grading and games underway already. We have been planning feverishly for the start of the school year and are looking forward to the boys coming back to get started. Whilst we can sometimes fool ourselves that it is quiet and somewhat productive without the boys here at the College, the real energy and fun of education is working with the gregarious and energetic boys of ATC! Sport and Activities Department News-This year we are very fortunate to welcome Mrs Anne-Marie Champion to the ATC Sport Team as the Sport and Activities Administration Officer. Anne-Marie will be known to many of our boys and families from basketball coaching in previous years and through her previous position at Christ The King, Anne-Marie has hit the ground running and will be working to support our College Sport and Activities Program. Welcome Anne-Marie! The Sport and Activities Office has relocated to the former Formation Office at the southeastern end of the Edmund Rice building (next to the art room), please feel very welcome to pop in to see any of the members of our team. Term 1 Sport -Next week s newsletter will have full details for the beginning of Term 1 sport; this edition has information pertaining to arrangements for sport this weekend and Week 1. With the exception of swimming and cricket (as per draws below), all training and activities will begin in Week 2 as per the timetable also found below. Our thanks to the many parents who used the online registration at the end of 2015 for their son/s Term 1 sport preferences. If you did not have the opportunity to do this, please email Mrs Anne-Marie Champion with your son s sport preferences ASAP. I would like to wish the cricketers the very best of luck for the opening matches of the season against The Armidale School who are staying with us, West Moreton Anglican College and on Saturday, our EREA mates, Gregory Terrace! ATC Interhouse Swimming Carnival Friday 29 January- The 2015 Interhouse Swimming Carnival was one of the most enjoyable and memorable days of our inaugural year as College. This year we are again looking forward to a great day of house rivalry, competition and good fun! A full timetable will be available in next week newsletter, however in preparation for this all boys are asked to bring their swimmers and towel on Wednesday and Thursday next week for time trials. Junior School Trials will be held for all students during class time and Middle School Trials will be held during lunch breaks as per the following timetable. Year 9 Second Break Wednesday, Year 8 First Break Thursday, Year 7 Second Break Thursday. Year 9 students will be asked to assist the PE and Sport Staff with cooking a sausage sizzle for Middle School students during the three lunch time trial sessions. A great way to kick of school based service hours for 2016! Please be aware that the ATC Swimming Carnival is participation based and the trials are conducted to ensure that boys swim in race with boys of a similar ability. The swimming age championships will be held later in the term at a separate event. Swim Squad key competition dates for your calendar Br Miller Shield Friday 5 Feb @ Nudgee College QCIS Champs Friday 4 March @ Downlands College

Holiday News - the ATC Sport and Activities juggernaut kept rolling right through Christmas... Congratulations to Christopher Kiel-Chisolm for his success over the holidays, winning the primary pairs figure skating at the QLD Championships. Congratulations to the boys who played in the Brisbane International over the holidays. Our ATC team placed 3rd overall and because of their outstanding way in which they conducted themselves throughout the tournament, they were invited to play in the curtain-raiser for Roger Federer s match on centre court. Well done gents! The State Swimming Championships were also held prior to Christmas and the boys and girls of the ATC Swimming Club. Congratulations in particular to Daniel Woodrow who won a silver medal in the 100m and 200m Freestyle events. Well done also to our Middle School 1st XI Cricket Team who participated in the Impact Cricket Challenge prior to Christmas. Against very tough opposition the boys won 2 from 6 games and had a great time playing quality cricket and improving as the tournament progressed. Last week I was fortunate to head to Japan with Mr Walker and Mr Ribeiro and a group of 30 Year 8 and 9 students for an action packed week of skiing, snowboarding and fun at Hakuba. Again like so many other situations, we had cause to be immensely proud of the young men that attend our College. The boys tackled all aspects of travel, skiing and Japan life with enthusiasm, resilience and with the good natured sense of fun that our boys are known for. We received many comments from people both in airports, on planes, on ski fields and out and about in public about the quality of the conduct of our students! Well done to the boys who attended and thanks to the parents for supporting us on this trip. This trip will be an annual event and has been booked again for 6th to 15th January 2017. Details of the parent information evening for current Year 7, 8 and 9 students will be advertised soon.

ATC Cricket Coordinator Mr Brett Henschell Cricket Round 1 It has been a full on start to the post-christmas cricket season with nearly 200 boys attending clinics over the holidays and the Middle School 1st XI performing well against very strong opposition in the Impact Cricket Challenge prior to Christmas. The next 3 days will see a large number of fixtures for ATC, including hosting The Armidale School and games against Gregory Terrace and West Moreton Anglican College. Please see below for information regarding these fixtures. Teams will be emailed to parents of all boys. Our apologies for the delay in getting information to you regarding this weekends fixtures, holidays and last minute trials from both ATC and GT have meant this process has been slower than we had hoped for. Thursday 21 January ATC Middle School 1st XI vs The Armidale School Brookfield Showgrounds, 3.00pm followed by BBQ and drinks with TAS players, parent and staff. Friday 22 January West Moreton Anglican College and The Armidale School Boys in the Middle School 2nd XI, 3rd XI and 6A teams will be playing 2 x T20 matches at WMAC (map below). Boys are to bring sufficient food and water for the duration of the day and are to be at their venue ready to warm up by 7.30am. Boys in the Middle School 1st XI will be playing 2 x T20 matches at Brookfield Showgrounds. Lunch will be provided. Boys are to be at Brookfield Showgrounds ready to warm up by 7.30am Game 1: ATC vs WMAC, 8.00am Game 2: WMAC vs TAS, 11.00am Game 3: ATC vs TAS 2.00pm Saturday 23 January vs Gregory Terrace and The Armidale School A complete draw for Saturday s cricket fixtures can be found below. Boys are to meet their coaches 30 minutes prior to their match commencing and are to be dressed in full ATC Cricket Uniform, including ATC Cricket Pants, Cricket Shirt and White Cricket Hat. Boys should bring sufficient water and snacks to last the duration of their match. Year 5B, C, Green and Blue players are to muster at the nets on Saturday morning at 7.30am to meet Mr Henschell and the Year 6A, B and C boys are to muster next to the main oval at GT near the canteen at 7.30am to meet Mr Capra to finalise teams. Parent assistance with umpiring, scoring and managing boys on the sidelines is required. We were really thankful for the level of support given by parents in Term 4 and are looking forward to this again in Term 1. Please be aware that there will be movement between teams for the first few weeks of the season as we seek to place boys in the best possible context for them to enjoy their cricket and to experience growth and success both as an individual and as a team member. Best of luck to all players, coaches, parents and spectators for what promises to be a cracking morning of cricket.
