JNR & FLETCHER TEE IT UP WITH THE PROS Both Colm Campbell Jnr and Jamie Fletcher qualified to play with the pros last week in the Northern Ireland Open Challenge Tour Event. Jamie finished seven over in the first round but produced a solid level par round 2. Although missing the cut, he acquitted himself very well. Colm produced 2 rounds of 2 over and 2 rounds of 3 under on his way to a 2 under par total. This meant a tie for 52nd overall and top amateur for the week. Congratulations to both for representing the club so well! Colm is pictured above with the overall winner, Ryan Fox.
GRIBBEN & UU AT EUROPEAN UNIVERSITIES Ryan Gribben and his University of Ulster teammates travelled to Croatia for the European Universities Games. Conditions were tough with high temperatures and a difficult golf course. But the team performed well on route to a second place finish in the team event. This was largely helped by Ryan who scored very well over the four days and who led after rounds 1 and 2 of the individual event. Ryan finished 6th in the individual event. Congratulations to Ryan and the University of Ulster Team.
MC GURK HELPS ULSTER TO INTERPROVINCIAL CROWN Ulster had the edge heading into the final day although Munster and Leinster were still in with a chance. After losing to Ulster on the opening day, Munster bounced back with a 6.5-3.5 victory against Leinster. Connacht recovered from their opening day defeat to Leinster and secured a draw with Ulster. A comprehensive win against Leinster on the final day saw the Ulster Boys U18 team claim the Interprovincial title at Tullamore Golf Club. Michael Mc Gurk performed well throughout the week helping the team to wins over Munster and Leinster and a draw against Connacht.
PERFORMING NORTH & SOUTH OF THE BORDER Warrenpoint were well represented at Portrush for the North of Ireland with 6 people teeing it up that week. Colm Campbell Jnr & Paul Reavey both progressed to the matchplay stages while the other 4 bowed out at the 36 hole cut stage. Colm progressed to the last 16 stage while Paul was eventually beaten in the last 8. Congratulations to both who performed well. Colm also made the long trip to Lahinch for the South of Ireland along with Jamie Fletcher and Stephen Coulter. Both Colm and Stephen made the 36 hole cut while Jamie narrowly missed out. Stephen was beaten in the first round but Colm progressed to the last 4 where he was eventually beaten by the Overall Winner Conor Purcell. Colm is pictured above on the 3rd hole at Lahinch. He will be representing Ireland this month in the Home Internationals. Good luck from everyone at the club.
