2017 JAMES CUP INTERNATIONAL SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA Plans for the 10th Anniversary of the JCI in the World Class Destination of Sydney are well underway. We have received enough positive feed-back from the following countries: Australia, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Sweden and USA to continue moving forward with the preliminary arrangements. We are thrilled to announce that NALG- China has informed us that a number of their members are looking forward to participating in the 2017 Matches. With that news China would become the 13th country to be represented in the JCI. The Matches are scheduled for October 18-20 (Wed. - Fri.). Player Registration and the traditional Players Dinner (guests invited) will be held Tuesday evening the 17th. St. Michael's Golf Club www.stmichaelsgolf.com.au/cms/ has been selected as the site of the 2017 Matches. St. Michael s is a spectacular links course that lies along the breezy coastal cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Accommodation for players and their guests lodging is planned for the Darling Harbour District of Sydney www.sydney.com/destinations/sydney/sydney-city/darling-harbour. The District has plenty of shops, restaurants, activities and a 10 minute walk to the (CBD) Central Business District or you may prefer using the hop-on/hop-off bus service. St. Michael s is located about 25 minutes south of the District. Player transportation to and from the Course will be provided from the selected lodging location. A new and exciting team format is being considered to celebrate the 10th Anniversary. Plans are for a four team round robin format where each team will play the other three. Each team must have the same even number (8-12) of players. The composition of the teams will be aligned nationally and/or regionally. If the four team format is not achievable we will consider a three team format or return to the traditional two team format. If you are interested in participating in the Matches let us know by email to: jcevents@att.net Players indicating an interest will receive their entry in February or March. The entries will close in April. At that time we will determine if there is enough interest to continue with the arrangements to stage a 2017 JCI. It s our recommendation not to make any prior arrangements for the JCI. For more information about the Championship and its history please visit www.jamescup.org. Wishing you and your families a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year! 4 James Cup Committee, Wally Mattson, Chairman
2017 WALG CHAMPIONSHIP MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA Our friends down under (NALG-Victoria) invite us to join them in celebrating the 25th Championship of the World Association of Left Handed Golfers. The Championship will be held October 22nd through the 27th on the world famous sand-belt courses of Melbourne. Lodging accommodations for players and guests have been arranged at the Pullman Melbourne Albert Park which also serves as headquarters for the Championship. From the hotel, it s a 4.5 km tram trip (2.8 miles) to discover the fashion capital of Melbourne with its fine restaurants, shopping and culture. Entry information and the courses to be played will be available at NALG-Victoria s website www.leftygolfvictoria.org/ in early 2017. It will also be posted at www.walg.org It s most fitting that the 25th WALG Championship be celebrated and played in Australia, as this is where it all began. In 1979 Sydney (NSW) was the location for the first World Left Handed Golf Championship, which was then called The International Tournament. It was during that Tournament when the idea of forming a WALG was first discussed. I do not need to remind past participants of the WALG Championships how special these events are for both the players and their guests. If you have not participated in one of these outstanding events please consider putting the WALG in Melbourne at the top of your 2017 adventure list and support our friends down-under. Please remember Lefty Golf is unique and very special. Those who play the game from the other side of the ball can only dream of the opportunities we have as Lefties. Wishing you, your family and friend s good health and a great 2017! Submitted by, Wally Mattson United States Rep. to WALG 5
