The 54-hole event will be contested on Long Cove Club s par-71, 6,211-yard Pete Dye course in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The Lineup The Gamecocks will tee off on Friday with their third different lineup this season. Senior Meredith Swanson, junior Suzie Lee, sophomore Justine Dreher and freshmen Sarah Schmelzel and Mary Fran Hillow are set to compete this weekend. Junior Samantha Swinehart and freshman Chelsey Couch will also be playing as individuals. What They ve Done So Far Swanson is making her fifth appearance this season and has a stroke average of 78.30 in the four previous events. Lee, who is in the lineup for the sixth time this season, has a season average of 76.33. Dreher, who ranks fourth on the team with a 75.46 stroke average, has a team-high two top-20 finishes this season, including a tie for 12th showing at the UCF Challenge to open the spring. Schmelzel leads the team and ranks 26th in the conference with an average of 74.38 and has one top-20 finish on the season. Hillow is coming off a strong collegiate debut as she tied for 18th as an individual at the UCF Challenge. History At The Darius Rucker Intercollegiate South Carolina finished eighth at the inaugural Darius Rucker Intercollegiate last spring. The Gamecocks posted rounds of 303-301=604 (+36) at the rain-shortened event. Katie Burnett led the way with a sixth-place finish with rounds of 72-71=143. Justine Dreher was the next best finisher as she tied for 20th for her first career top-20 finish. Breaking Down the Field Last year s field was recognized as the sixth best in women s collegiate golf by Golfweek Magazine, and this year s could be even better. Of the 15 teams competing, 13 are ranked in the Golfstat Top 50, including defending national champion Alabama. The field also has a strong SEC flavor, as No. 8 Arkansas, No. 37 Auburn, No. 14 Georgia, No. 35 LSU, No. 29 Tennessee and No. 11 Vanderbilt join the Gamecocks and Crimson Tide. No. 3 North Carolina, No. 19 Virginia and No. 44 Wake Forest make up a strong ACC contingent. No. 17 Arizona State, No. 42 Central Florida, Furman and TCU round out the field. South Carolina has competed against 12 teams from the field already this season and has a 6-24 head-to-head record against those schools. About The Course Long Cove Club is consistently ranked as one of the top golf courses in the country and will provide the golfers with an extremely challenging par-71, 6,211-yard setup this weekend. The course, which was designed by nationally-renowned golf course architect Pete Dye, proved difficult to put up low numbers during last year s Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, as only six rounds under par were recorded. The Gamecocks played through extremely tough conditions in the second round at the Country Club of Landfall and made it through eight to 11 holes before play was suspended because of the weather. South Carolina had moved up to 10th place, but with the cancelation of the final two rounds, it finished 13th with its first-round score of 304 (+16). Competing against one of the most elite fields in collegiate golf this season with 15 teams in the Golfstat Top 50, the Gamecocks finished 18th with a three-day total of 911 (+47). The tournament served as a preview of the 2013 NCAA Championship, as the top 10 teams from last year s championship and eight more teams with high rankings made the trip to Athens.
