SDAT-AKG Table Tennis Development Centre, with the multiple objectives of developing the game at grass root level, producing champions in the international arena of competition and promoting the under privileged players, is at present in a sprawling 12,000 sq. ft campus with all the facilities at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Periamet, Chennai with the support of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT). The Facilities include viz, 1. Playing facilities with 18 Tables, Multi Balls, 2. Fitness Arena for light weight training with Gym, Thread Mill and Exercise cycle 3. Open Ground for Physical fitness for sprints, jogging 4. Infrastructure facilities with Rest Rooms for Boys and Girls; Office Rooms for Administrative Activities and Discussions Room for Visitors / Parents 5. State of art Technology Video Analysis System 6. Training Program on Advanced Technology Robot Zone The players of our Academy have been performing extremely well in both International and National arena. The Honorary coaches Shri A. Srinivasa Rao and Shri. A. Muralidhara Rao besides serving in Tamil Nadu State Association, Tamil Nadu Players Welfare Association, Madras District Association, Table Tennis Players Parents Association in various capacities for the last 27 years of rich experience have produced hundreds of District, University, State and National Ranked players including several International players, Arjuna awardees, Olympians and the First Indian to win the Common Wealth Gold Medal, US Open and the recent Egypt Pro-

Due to this immense performance and the experience we have developed over the past 25 years of organising and promoting the game of Table Tennis, the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu came forward and set-up the present Table Tennis Development Centre (SDAT-AKG TTDC) as a joint venture with Twenty Years Lease Agreement. With the availability of Infrastructure and Technical Expertise, we have embarked upon bigger and ambitious projects which will help our Academy and Players to achieve more in the game of Table Tennis i. Rao brothers Hailing from Rajamundry, Andhra Pradesh, the Rao Brothers were ranked players in the state of Andhra Pradesh before their jobs beckoned them to Chennai. The eldest of the two, A. Srinivas Rao, a NIS, Patiala (Premier Sports Body of India) qualified Table Tennis coach, the 1st NIS coach from Tamil Nadu, an Andhra Pradesh State Junior Champion in Singles and Doubles (along with his brother) is now retired from Income Tax, Chennai and is fully focused on developing the game of table tennis in the country. The younger and vivacious A. Muralidhar Rao, an Andhra Pradesh University Champion for three consecutive years between 1972 and 75, is employed with Central Excise, Chennai. He brings in the much needed zest and energy into the coaching process. Their passion for the game of Table Tennis motivated them to do something more for the game, than just playing the ping pong balls. They started coaching in the year 1983, at YMCA, Esplanade, Chennai, shifting their coaching stint to Don Bosco, Holy Angels, Santhome Hr. Sec. School, Chennai and at present coaching at Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Schools and YMIA, Mylapore, Chennai for the last 20 years and currently at SDAT-AKG, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Periamet, churning out Champions at the National and International levels, day in and day out, year after year. Their day begins at 5.00 am goading their young players into fitness and coaching upto to 8.00 am and again from 6.00 pm to 10.00 pm till they hit their bed, except between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm when the players take the break to schools / colleges and the Brothers to their offices. It is their sheer perseverance, persistence and passion (the 3 P s) for the Game that has made them churn out champions like Chetan Baboor, Raman, Indu, Shamini, M.S.Mythili, Bhuvaneswari, N. Arul Selvi, Rajath Kamal and their current prodigy A.Sharat Kamal, Arjuna Awardee and Olympian and many more are in the pipe line to become future champions.
