For Immediate Release Zach Eberly, International Junior Golf Tour, 800-792-9143 International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) Presents The IJGT at Architects Golf Club Phillipsburg, NJ Sunday, May 2, 2010 Voetsch Dominates at Architects Preston wins in thrilling fashion Phillipsburg, NJ Many of the nation s top junior golfers converged on the small city of Phillipsburg, New Jersey to take part in a 36-hole International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) event at the Architects Golf Club. Named for the 17 premiere golf course designers that had a hand in designing the course, The Architects Golf Club offers an ideal blend of stunning scenery and daunting challenges that are sure to make every round an adventure. Clear skies and hot weather was the recipe for success as many of our junior golfers posted very impressive total scores. The final round was a roller coaster ride for all who witnessed the tight races being decided late in the day. In the Boys 16-19 Division, John Voetsch of New Vernon, NJ displayed stellar shot making and mental toughness throughout the entire tournament to reel in top honors. Always an aggressive player, John posted an opening round of 73 and followed that with an impressive 3-under par 68 to finish with a tournament total of 141. After trailing Voetsch by two strokes heading in to the final round, Jacob Stockl of Clark, NJ made a late charge to take home the second place trophy. After his first round score of 75, Jacob fired a scorching 4-under par 67 in the final round to claim the low round belt buckle and a tournament total of even par 142. An example of the depth in the Boys 16-19 Division is the tie for third place between Andrew Bieber (Danville, PA) and Matt Long (East Stroudsburg, PA), both of whom finished just four strokes behind the leader. Bieber finished strong with rounds of 74 and even par 71, while Long played consistent golf with rounds of 73 and 72. Although the weekend was full of great play, the day belonged to John Voetsch and his dazzling play on the course. John finally broke through and won his first IJGT tournament in the 16-19 Division. When asked about his game plan for the final round, Voetsch replied I just tried to shoot a good number. I knew that if I put something up that was low I was in good position to win.
The Boys 13-15 Division followed suit and also boasted low scores and excellent play. Rising to the top of the pack was Milford, PA native Cody Cox. Cody fired very impressive rounds of 73 and 75 for a tournament total of 148. Both Zachary Pallis of Springfield, NJ and Scott Jaster of Bryn Mawr, PA posted low scores and finished in a tie for second place. Zachary was in the hunt in both rounds by shooting scores of 75 and 74 for a total of 149. Scott Jaster is a regular top performer with the IJGT and posted scores of 72 and 77 for a total of 149. Breaking through the cluttered leader board, Cody Cox was no doubt a very deserving and humble champion. I had to just keep playing and hitting greens. I knew my putts would eventually drop. In the Boys 12 and Under Division, Curren Mody on Monmouth Junction, NJ is quietly becoming a standout golfer with all the tools necessary to be successful at any level. After a spectacular first round of 2-under 69, Mody clinched the first place trophy with a final round 73 for a tournament total of 142. The always tough Luke Miller of Venetia, PA fired a first round 73 and made a late charge in the second round by posting a 1-under 70 to finish one stroke behind the leader with a tournament total of 143. Luke s second round score was also good enough to win the low final round belt buckle. Willis Huynh of Syosset, NY carded two solid rounds of 73 and 74 to finish in third place with a tournament total of 147. The soft spoken Curren Mody allowed his top notch golf game do all the talking. I have been working on my full swing the past couple weeks because I have been a little jumpy at the ball. It is obvious Curren was able to fix this and was poised for his second victory in three weeks. When asked about his strategy for Sunday s final round, Curren replied by simply stating Hit fairways, hit greens, make putts. The drama of the boy's divisions spilled over into the Girls 15-19 division. Scotland Preston of Mountainside, NJ blasted out of the starting gate with a great first round score of 73. She equaled her first round score with another 73 in Sunday s final round to cap off a very impressive tournament total of 146. Brooke Rohrbach of Greenwich, CT shot an 81 in the first round, but displayed her true skills in the second round by firing an even par 71 to complete her two day total of 152. Brooke s final round score was also good enough for the low final round belt buckle. Elizabeth DiVincentis of Durham, CT rounded out the top three with great rounds of 75 and 80 to finish with a tournament total of 155.
Scotland always seems to be near the top of the leader board in every IJGT event she plays in. She has been working hard on her driving accuracy during the past couple weeks, which is one of the major reasons for her low scores. When asked about her goals for the final round, Scotland replied I wanted to play at the same level or better than yesterday and just stay consistent. Entering Sunday s final-round, players were looking to finish strong and receive the coveted IJGT Low Final Round Belt Buckle. This week s winners were: Boys 16-19 Division, Jacob Stockl, 67. Boys 13-15 Division, Nick Marotta, 72. Boys U-12 Division, Luke Miller, 70.
