ROSEVILLE DISTRICT CRICKET CLUB (JUNIOR DIVISION) 2013 / 2014 INFORMATION FOR PLAYERS & PARENTS PLAYER REGISTRATION 2013 / 14 Welcome to the new season. Players can attend Registration day on Sunday August 4 th, 2013 from 12pm to 1.30pm at Roseville Park, Clanville Road, Roseville. Alternatively, registration can also be done by posting or, delivering the player registration form and fees by Friday 23 August, 2013 to: The Registrar, Roseville District Junior Cricket Club 52 Bancroft Ave, Roseville, NSW 2069 The age eligibility for a player is determined at 31 August 2013. If a player was born on 21 September 2003, the player would be 9 years and 11 months at 31 August and hence play in an U10 team this season. As the North Shore Junior Cricket Association (NSJCA) competition runs over two school terms, players need to consider school commitments in Term 1 of 2014. CLUB TEAMS The Club enters age group teams in the NSJCA competition. Grades run from under 9 to under 16 and are open to both girls and boys. Teams cannot be entered into the NSJCA competition until they have a nominated Coach and Manager. Team selection is complicated and while we do try and meet as many requests as possible for players to be in the same team with friends or, school groups it is simply not always possible. Ability is not a factor in team selections. COMPETITION DATES The first round for U10 U16 s generally commences with 2 rounds played prior to the October school holidays, and then recommence at the beginning of Term 4. There is no play during the Christmas school holidays. The U9 competition commences on the first weekend of Term 4. TEAM PRACTICE Players are expected to attend practice sessions for about an hour once a week at a venue and time nominated by the coach. These sessions usually take place at Roseville Park (Clanville Rd, Roseville) nets.
SEASON DUES The club provides all playing equipment and balls. Fees are structured to cover these costs as well as affiliation with the NSJCA which hires grounds, administers the running of the competition and insurance for players. The Club hires practice nets and organises team photographs and awards for players. Under 9 $140.00 Under 10 $150.00 Under 11 Under 16 $160.00 Roseville Junior CC Club Shirt $30.00 Roseville Junior CC Cricket Hat $15.00 (broad brimmed hat) PARENT ASSISTANCE How Teams are organised As in previous years, the success of each team and the enjoyment of the players is dependent on the involvement of the parents. Your participation in the running of the Club is vital. Each team requires a manager, coach and assistant(s), scorer, umpire and recorder. Coach Manager Scorer Arrange practice sessions, encourage & teaches players the skills required to enjoy the game of cricket. Training courses are held during the season. Notify players/parents of game venues and wet weather conditions coordinate administrative matters and attend Club meetings. Attend games and keep score (no experience required). Two scorer s workshops are currently scheduled for Wednesday 11 th September and Tuesday 8 th October. More details are available on the last page of this document. Umpire Attend games and be qualified after completing a course. Two umpire s courses will be run on evenings towards the beginning of the season. See dates for these courses on the last page. Each U10 s - U16 s team will be required to provide TWO qualified umpires prior to round 4, or lose competition points. The NSJCA will generally hold a Managers & Coaches Forum for the U10 s U16 s prior to the start of the season. This is an important meeting that covers rule changes and the process on how to enter results. An email will be sent to all Managers and Coaches prior to the meeting. The Club will reimburse any accreditation costs involved for completing the Umpire and Coaches courses. The Scorers course is free. PLAYING ATTIRE During all matches, players MUST wear;
Roseville Club shirt White shorts or trousers (or white skirt for girls) Sneakers or cricket shoes (with rubber studs only - NO METAL SPIKES) A sun hat Whilst batting, it is compulsory for all players, regardless of their age, to wear a minimum of leg guards (pads), batting gloves, abdomen protector (box) and a properly fitted and compliant cricket helmet. Other protective equipment such as arm guards, chest guards and thigh guards are optional. The club will provide all necessary equipment however players are permitted to use their own cricket gear, provided it meets the required standards. Players should bring a water bottle, snack and sun cream to ALL games. Parents are requested to bring drinks, snacks and good humour to games. It is also advisable to bring a chair as many venues have no seats. INSURANCE Registered and financial club members are covered by Cricket Australia s insurance policy for any accidents that may occur during matches. CODE OF CONDUCT All officials are volunteers. The umpires at games, whilst expected to have a knowledge of the rules and have successfully passed the umpires course, are there to help run the game and should be treated with respect by both players and parents. All players and parents must behave in accordance with the Code of Conduct adopted by the Club and applicable to the competition. Cricket is one of the only sports to have a law governing how to play within the Spirit of the Game. All parents and coaches are encouraged to visit the Lord s web site (http://www.lords.org) and to explain the Preamble to all players which defines what playing in the spirit of the game really means. COMPETITION FORMAT Under 9 games are structured on an average format with 12 players and 18 overs a side. Each player bats for 3 overs and also bowls every match. Games last for approx. two hours and generally start at 8.00 am. A soft ball (Easton Incrediball or similar) is used for all U9 matches with a new ball used at the beginning of each innings. The U9 competition is not graded and results are not centrally recorded at the conclusion of matches. Under 10s play 24 overs with most games in the mornings from 9.00 am to 11.30 am. The Under 11s play 30 overs per innings matches and Under 12s and above play 32 overs per innings in either the AM or, PM competitions. Competitions are competitive however teams are not competitively selected (i.e. results and a ladder is maintained). Players are encouraged to play in teams with their friends to increase the enjoyment and fun.
REPRESENTATIVE CRICKET For those junior cricketers who possess good cricketing skills and who wish to play at a more competitive level, the NSJCA selects representative teams in U10 - U16 age groups to play in inter-district competitions. Matches are played on Sundays. Selection trials are open to all players. Under 10 trials are held in September each year for selection in that season s team. Selection trials for U11 U16 teams are generally held in March each year for the following season. Dates and venues of trials are posted to the NSJCA web site and can be found in the NSJCA Calendar. NORTH SHORE JUNIOR CRICKET ASSOCIATION A complete set of NSJCA rules and other useful general information is available on the North Shore Junior Cricket Association website (www.nsjca.asn.au). This website contains all the dates for trials, workshops, etc. mentioned above as well as all match information and should be checked regularly. Junior cricket on the North Shore is played in accordance with the MCC Laws of Cricket. Additional playing conditions, relevant to the NSJCA competition can be found in the Blue Book which can be downloaded from the NSJCA web site. All coaches and managers should become familiar with the Blue Book and the Laws of Cricket and keep a copy in the team kit at all matches.
