Introduction The Loughs Agency secured 4m of funding from the European Union INTERREG IVA programme and, between 2011 and 2015, implemented the Marine Tourism and Angling Development project. The overall aim of this programme was to develop and promote marine tourism, water based leisure activity, angling tourism and recreational angling in the Foyle and Carlingford areas. The Loughs Agency aim was to: Develop boating access infrastructure Provide facilities for visitors Sensitively deliver environmental education and interpretation Raise visitor awareness of the marine environment Enhance habitat and develop angling infrastructure Develop e-commerce based licensing for the angling sector This booklet provides a summary of the individual projects within this Marine Tourism and Angling Development Project. Project Name: Gribben Quay Location: Gribben Quay, Cloghboy, Bready, County Tyrone BT82 0DP Grid ref: C356081 Main Features: Stone quay, slipway, managed access, disabled parking, toilets. A relic of those times is the Gribben, a stone quay where fish were once landed and an ice house that held stores of ice for packing fish, in readiness for transport to distant markets. This quay has been restored and a slipway built. There is managed access to the site, permitting appropriate usage of the river. The aspiration is that the river realises its potential for the sustainable development of nature based tourism, including angling and bird watching. 3

Access: Access for anglers with valid rod licence and fishing permit. Project Partner: Loughs Agency Point of Contact: Loughs Agency www.loughs-agency.org Tel: 028 7134 2100 Email: general@loughs-agency.org The project has enhanced the habitat along the River Foyle (a riparian strip ) and provides access for anglers. The River Foyle offers much potential as a recreational wild fishery. 4

Project Name: Mellon Beat Location: River Strule, Mellon Beat, Beltany, Beltany Rd, Omagh, County Tyrone BT78 5RA Grid ref: H419812 Main Features: River enhancement and angler access infrastructure. Access: Access for anglers with valid rod licence and fishing permit. Project Partner: Omagh Anglers Association Point of Contact: Omagh Anglers www.omaghanglers.org The in-stream works include groynes and revetment placed in the river as habitat enhancement for fish and other river life. Angler access improvement works include a car park, timber steps to the river, signage, stockproof fencing, gates, and stiles, angling shelters, bench seating and a water depth gauge. 5

Project Name: Malin Head Location: Malin Head, Ballyhillin, Banbas Crown, County Donegal Grid ref: C397596 Main Features: Passing bays, viewing platform and walking trail. Access: Public access (subject to bylaws and any other restrictions). Renowned for its rugged seascape and attractive beaches, experience the sensation of the cliff top trails and a viewing area with telescopes which allow the visitor to safely enjoy the fabulous views across to Inishtrahull Island and the Scottish isles beyond. Information panels inform visitors of trail conditions and the wildlife they may see, as well as interpreting the landscape and seascape. 6

Access: There is managed access to the site (see point of contact, below). Project Partner: Donegal County Council Point of Contact: Greencastle Harbour (Donegal County Council) Tel: +353 (0) 74 91 53900 Email: info@donegal.coco.ie Harbour Master Tel: + 353 (0) 86 816 6151 Cruise ship tender berth, anchor pontoon for temporary marina, staging post for visiting yachts and disabled access for boat users. Serves boats bound to and from Derry, as well as those seeking a mooring at this scenic spot at the mouth of the lough. The pontoon offers an alternative landing, too, for boats tendering to cruise ships. 8

Project Name: Foyle Marina Location: Derry~Londonderry BT48 7NU Grid ref: C436178 Lat 55 degrees 00.3 north Long 007 degrees 19.2 west Main Features: Maine Events Platform and Cruise Ship Quay. Disabled hoist, toilets, and changing facilities. Shore power, fresh water and waste reception facilities. Access is permitted to key holders only with CCTV monitoring the area 24 hours a day. Access: There is managed access to the site (see point of contact, below). Situated in the centre of Derry, the Marina is ideally located for those sailing the Irish Sea and the Western Isles of Scotland. Derry is the ideal gateway for visitors who wish to discover the cultural heritage of Ireland s only walled city, the delights of the Antrim Coast and Donegal. 9
