Letter from the General Manager Dear Members, The staff is hard at work preparing for another great spring and summer at GCC. Our Social Committee has had several successful events already this year! In May and June, we have the Member-Member Weekend which is always fun, Family Field Day the weekend of Memorial Day, Opening Day of the Pool, Swim Teams, Kentucky Derby Party, Kid s Camp, and a Tiki Party planned. We have something for everyone! Membership March and April has been very good month for the Club. We have added 50 new members and their families. The Club has a net gain of four members year to date, which brings our total to 781 total members. As of April, we have implemented an initiation fee at the Club. You can see more information throughout the newsletter about the different membership categories that we will be offering going forward and pricing. With all of these great activities, please encourage prospective new members to consider our Club for membership. It is also important to maintain current membership by including newer members in activities they may enjoy at the Club. Please encourage potential new members to call me at 756-4400 to discuss these membership opportunities. Non Member Usage at the Club The board approved to limit the number of times an in town guest can play golf from 6 times per year to 4 times per year. We hope this will encourage more members guest to join the club, as well as protect our members investment in the club. Finances of the Club The fi rst quarter fi nancials were promising. We are currently $27,223 better than budget. The second and fourth quarters of the year are generally our best quarters. If this is any indication of how our year will be operationally, we are looking forward to a good year. Golf Courses Number 7 at the Brook Valley Course has been somewhat of challenge to determine the best fi nancial approach to this issue. We have been working with the city on this matter, and hopefully we will have this repaired in the coming months at a somewhat minimal cost to the Club. Pool News We are excited about having Torre and Bruce back for a second year to manage the pools. You will see a few changes at the pools to include new furniture at both pools and a tent at the Brook Valley Pool to provide more shade for those hot July and August days. Updating Members Information We need your help! One of goals this year is to improve our communications with our members. The more information we have, such as spouses emails, children s ages, and your areas of interest at the club, the more information that we can provide to you about all the great activities at the club! Please contact Amy Allen in our accounting department to update your information @ 756-4400. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Reminder when Dining at the Club The last several days of each month in the dining room are our busiest times. It is highly recommended that you make reservations to ensure that you and your family receive the best service at the club. The staff strives to always provide the members with an enjoyable experience at the club! I truly believe that member engagement is critical in operating a strong private country club. Please know that the feedback and suggestions that my staff and I receive are valuable and appreciated. We will always have an open door policy as well as an open-minded approach when considering suggestions from our members. Please know that we will always make time to listen to your thoughts, feedback, and ideas. I look forward to seeing you at the club, Will Davis, CCM 2 Greenville Country Club News May/June 2013

Golf News From the Desk of the Pro: Spring has kicked in, and we are in full swing at both of our facilities. Sports Camp is just around the corner, and we are hoping to fi ll every slot as we have in the past. We would like to invite the parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers, etc to join us at the end of every day for the putt off competition between the teams. The putt off starts every day around 12:45 PM, with the exception of our Championship Putt Off Competition on Friday, the last day of camp, at 12:30. The putt off takes place at the large putting green across from the pool. This is the most exciting part of the golf experience for the kids! I encourage you to join us for our weekly play dates at either facility for ladies day and men s night. We are planning on doing an aggressive culture practice to the greens at the Brook Valley course. This project will start on June 10th, and the course will be closed from the 10th through 20th. It will open back up on Friday the 21st at regular time. What will we be doing for ten days? The purpose of this project is to remove as much thatch and organic matter as we can. This is reason the greens are soft. The goal is to be fi nished with the greens by the fi fth day the course is closed. What are we going to be doing the other fi ve days? We will be aerifying the tees and fairways. The greens will need a few extra days to recover from the aggressive culture practice. So, I suggested we stay closed an extra fi ve days to address some other areas of the course and to aerify the tees and fairways. When we reopen the course, the greens will have started to recover. They will not be 100%, but they will be playable. The benefi ts of doing this will be fi rmer and faster putting surfaces. I know this will be an inconvenience for some members, but the benefi t of having two courses, is that you will have somewhere to play. If anyone has any questions or concerns, they can reach me at marionp@greenvillecountyclub.com or at my offi ce at 756-2174. Chris Parham, Golf Course Superintendent Greenville 13 Country Club News
