www.tweedgoldcoastfreedivers.webs.com THE QUEENSLAND STATE SPEARFISHING TITLES 2011 To be held consecutively over the 12 th and 13 th November 2011 Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast, South East Queensland Backup dates 19th and 20th November 2011 The Tweed Goldcoast Freedivers invites spearfishing competitors to the 2011 Queensland Spearfishing Titles to be held on Saturday the 12 th and Sunday the 13 th November 2010 with back up dates of the 19 th and 20 th November 2011. The Club will be running this year s titles from small boats. TGC should have a number of private boats available for use during the competition. However, Sunshine Coast divers may also provide further boats. Competitors should therefore be aware that numbers may be limited by the number of boats and spots will be offered on a first come first served basis. All competing divers must be financial members of the Australian Underwater Federation Queensland AUFQ and must abide by the AUFQ A-section rules. The competition will be held on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. Please join us for a fantastic weekend of safe, sustainable and selective spearfishing competition. Nominations Enclosed are the following:- - B section rules; - Competition entry form; - Competition score sheet. Please return all forms to:- The Secretary Tweed Goldcoast Freedivers 25 Roslyn Court North Tamborine QLD 4272 Cheques and money orders are to be made payable to the Tweed Goldcoast Freedivers Inc. Competition Day The competition vessels will be departing on Saturday and Sunday 12 th and 13 th of November at 8:00am from the boat ramp located at Harbour Parade Mooloolaba (see attached maps) and returning to the boat ramp at the very latest by 3:00pm. All competitors are required to be present and their gear loaded by 7:30am at boat ramp located at Harbour Parade Mooloolaba. The 5-6 hour competition will be held on a reefs out from Mooloolaba. The preferred locations for the titles are Inner Gneerings, Mudjimba Island, Hancock Shoals and outer Point Arkwright. The final destinations will be decided based on weather conditions prior to departure. The duration for the competition will be determined by the organizing committee prior to the commencement of the first day of competition but will be either 5 or 6 hours and we expect to return back to Mooloolaba by approximately 5pm on the day of competition. Sign on, check on safety gear, tag issue, safety briefing will happen at the boat ramp. A safety vessel will be provided during competition with designated safety officers. Nomination fees do not cover fuel costs. Competitors are responsible for sorting out fuel costs with their respective skippers.

Different locations on day of competition Given the geographical limits of Sunshine Coast reefs it is anticipated that the each day of competition may be held at two different locations, with between 2 ½ and 3 hours of competition at each location. The organizing committee will make a decision closer to competition day once prevailing conditions are better known. All competitors will be briefed prior to commencement of the first day of competition. True Pairs Competition In line with the trend at the National Level the second day of competition is to be held as a True Pairs competition with Interpacific Pairs Rules applying. This is not to be confused with the traditional pairs competition where members from the same club can nominate on paper to combine their scores without actually diving together. NB:- The True Pairs Competition is a trial this year. All traditional individual trophies will be decided from the first day of competition only. The True Pairs Competition will be a stand-alone event scores from the two days of competition will not be combined. Swim Off Format It is anticipated the competition will be held as a swim off competition. Currents in the Sunshine Coast area are generally mild and conducive to this format. However, South East Queensland can be subject to strong currents not suitable for a swim off type competition. In the event of strong currents the Organizing Committee may give consideration to a designated drift with competitors being ferried between start and finish points. However, this option will be a last resort and does not mean the competition will revert to an open boat format. Accommodation For visiting divers there are several TCG members offering billeting. Accommodation is also available at Mooloolaba and throughout the Sunshine Coast. Weigh in At the conclusion of each day of competition the weigh in by designated weigh master will commence at a location near the boat ramp to be disclosed. Competitors must be present in the weigh in area with their fish and signed off by 4.30pm. All divers must attend their fish being weighed. Eligible Species: It is the responsibility of each competitor to make themselves aware of the 2003 Qld Govt regulations regarding minimum legal sizes, protected species and catch limits for all coral reef finfish. Note: Under new Qld Government regulations, all fish must have one pectoral fin removed, and all fish must be left whole, unless a fillet of 40cm can be taken. Also, a total bag limit of 20 fish now applies. Note also that bag limits apply for individual species groups and new size limits apply (see below). Competitors breaking the new regulations will be disqualified. All competitors must make themselves aware of the rules before the competition. Presentation and Trophies Please note, due to the busy time of year and other bookings there will be alternate venues depending on what date the competition takes place. The presentation will commence at around 6.00pm. The current holders of perpetual trophies are reminded to return them in a clean and undamaged state for the competition. 1. If the competition takes place on the primary dates12 th and 13 th November 2011 at the nearby Kawana Waters Surf Life Saving Club, 99 Pacific Blvd, Buddina QLD 4575 (see attached map below). 2. If the competition takes place on the back up dates the presentation will be held at Kawana Waters Hotel located on Nicklin Way a very short drive from the boat ramp and the weigh in. (see attached map). 2

Unforeseen Weather In the case of unfavourable weather a decision will be made by TCG by 7:30 pm the prior Wednesday. Competitors will be advised in advance via email if the competition is not going ahead. That should allow 24 hours for any flight bookings to be changed. B SECTION RULES 1.
