Charter High School Swim & Dive Team 2015 2016 Handbook 1
Welcome to the Charter High School Swim and Dive Team! We look forward to working with you. Our team is a varsity sport sanctioned by the Georgia High School Association. Our support group, the Splashdown Club, is a non-profit organization run by parent volunteers. This handbook is for swimmers, divers, coaches, and parents. Philosophy and Goals The CCHS Swim and Dive Team was organized to offer High School students a high quality competitive swimming and diving program. We provide students with opportunities for personal growth and enjoyment, and an introduction to the lifelong health benefits of swimming and diving. These sports are taught in a fun environment while nurturing a competitive attitude at the individual s own rate. Our desire is to create a positive atmosphere where young people can learn to set individual goals and experience the rewards of achieving them. The CCHS Swim and Dive Team also provides an opportunity for our youth to experience the dynamics of working together as part of a successful team a setting in which team members can learn from each other as well as from their own experiences. Winning is not based solely on team points, an individual's speed, or the number of awards acquired. The CCHS Swim and Dive Team considers all swimmers and divers as equal and integral members of the team. Our success is ultimately measured by how much opportunity we provide for the students of our school and by how much their individual potential is maximized. The building of positive attitudes, healthy bodies, disciplined minds, and enduring friendships are among the rewards our program strives to offer to those who join the CCHS Swim and Dive Team. Lane Timer One timer shall be placed directly over their assigned lane at the finish. The timer starts the watch at the instant of the flash, and stops the watch and the plunger (which is connected to the touch pad) immediately when any part of the swimmer s body touches the end of the pool. The Timer then gives the time to the Lane Recorder. Four timers are needed for each meet. Lane Recorder One recorder shall be placed directly over their assigned lane at the finish. The recorder records the swimmer s time from the Timer at the end of each event or heat. The recorder is also responsible for making sure the swimmers are lined up for the next three events or heats. Four recorders are needed for each meet. 3
Diving Scorekeeper One scorekeeper from each team records the judges diving scores and calculates total scores for each diver and keeps a running total overall for each diver. Types of Meets CCHS swimmers and divers are allowed to enter only 10 competitions per season. Inter-Squad Meets (or Dual Meets) These are meets in which CCHS swimmers and divers will compete against other GHSA swim teams. These meets will be for the entire team. The meet lineup will specify what events each swimmer is racing. The lineup will vary to meet the coaches training objectives and to give an interesting variety of experiences to our swimmers. Sometimes coaches will select events for each swimmer or diver; sometimes the swimmer or diver will be given a choice. Dual meets last about two to two and a half hours.
