I ssue 1 Meet the new Madison West Athletic Director, Torrance Hill Vol 3 Year 2017-18 Home Game Cards MWABA Fall Events, Sports News & s (pages 2-5) Madison West Athletic Booster Association http:/ / www.mwaba.org GO REGENTS! Meet our new Athletic Director, Torrance Hill! Torrance comes to West after 4 years as AD of Archbishop Carroll HS in Washington DC. Prior to that he spent one year as the assistant AD for the DC Public Schools and 3 years as a the AD at Cincinnati Aiken HS. Torrance also spent 6 years as Asst. AD at Wilberforce University in Ohio. Torrance was born in Delaware, Ohio, lived in Cleveland and Dayton, Ohio and also spent time in Upper Marlboro, MD and Arlington, VA. He graduated from Central State University in Ohio with a BA in Communications and MS in Sports Management. He was also a collegiate athlete in Track & Field. In addition to being an athletic director, Torrance has also spent a lot of time as a coach : 6 years as the Head Women's Basketball Coach, Wilberforce University (producing Two NAIA All Americans), 6 years, Boys Basketball Coach (Div. IV State Champions, 1998; Regional Semis, 1992), 11 years, Asst. Girls Outdoor Track Coach (10 State Appearances and One state champion). (continued on page 3) Home Game Cards WHAT IS MWABA? MWABA is the parent-volunteer booster organization for Madison West High School's 25 athletic teams. MWABA provides uniforms, equipment, scholarships, and other essentials for 1,200 student athletes who compete at various levels on our sports teams. The West High community, especially families with children participating in sports, as well as alumni and fans of West High athletics, are encouraged to join MWABA and become involved with our annual events! To join (or just donate to) MWABA: Contact a L iaison OR Pay On-L ine SAVE MONEY AND PURCHASE A HOME GAME CARD Get in free to all home games throughout the entire school year when you show your home game card (Adults, $30 each or $50 for 2). PLUS, MWABA keeps $10 from every home game card sold! (Entrance fees otherwise go directly to the school district). Contact a MWABA liaison today or visit the MWABA site! What is a MWABA Liaison? A liaison is a parent who has volunteered his/ her time to support a specific sport at West HS. They are responsible for communicating MWABA information to parents of athletes for that sport. School Year MWABA donated $50,000 to help with the upgrade to the weight room 4 years ago, $24,000 2 years ago for scoreboard upgrades for baseball and softball and $23,000 for a new timing system for swimming. Torrance improved fundraising for department and booster club, Renovation of facilities (stadium seats, automated side basketball rims, Purchasing of yellow bus for transportation, Implemented athletic bus service, Installed electricity for football concessions stand, Renovated long jump, Improvement via donation of weight room equipment). Torrance has been married for six years to his wife, Dr. Caroline Lang, M.S./ PhD. He has three children; son Torrance II (24 yrs old), daughter Jadyn (16 yrs old) and son Terence (14 yrs old). Mission: To Prepare Our Student Athletes To be Successful in College and Society Vision: Madison West student athletes will perform at an elite level academically and athletically. We will also be respected and recognized in the MMSD, Big 8 and WIAA.
