PROGRAM OBJECTIVES Welcome to the Wells Branch MUD Learn to Swim Program. The Wells Branch MUD strives to offer the very best in swimming instruction. We hope your children will progress in their water skills and self-confidence during their time with us. Our Learn to Swim Program is designed for participants to learn about themselves as well as learning to swim. Each class builds on the skills learned in the previous level. Classes emphasize personal safety, endurance, lifesaving, and development of swimming strokes. Recreation tags will be required only if you want to swim before or after the lesson. CLASS INFORMATION Each class maintains a low ratio of students per instructor to insure close, personal attention. We will offer both morning and afternoon sessions for toddlers, preschoolers and youth. The two-week session classes are 35 minutes, Monday through Thursday with Friday as a rain out day if needed. Saturdays in May classes are 35 minutes, also. Transferring from one session/time to another is permitted up to one week prior to session start. Transfers are subject to a $3 transfer fee and may be completed at the Recreation Center. In the event of bad weather, water safety activities may be held in lieu of in water instruction. On bad weather days you may call 512-251-9814 or the pool facility your lessons are being held at for information about cancellations. CLASS REGISTRATION To sign-up for a session it is necessary to pre-register prior to the start of the session. Registration may be done in person at the Wells Branch Recreation Center or on-line. Walk-ins on the first class day are not allowed. We cannot hold spaces in a class without payment. All fees are non-refundable unless the class is cancelled by the office. If a class has insufficient enrollment, the MUD reserves the right to cancel the class and a full refund will be given or classes may be combined. We do not offer make-up classes except when an entire class is canceled. FEES In-District Out-Of District Saturdays in May (4 days) Session $20 $30 2 Week Sessions (8 days) $40 $55

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Can I enroll in swim lessons if we do not have a recreation tag? Yes, you do not need a recreation tag to enroll for swim lessons. However if your child or another family member wishes to use the pool outside of the lesson you will need to pay the applicable day use fee. Can I drop off my child at swim lessons and pick them up after the class is over? If your child is 10 or under, the child is required to be supervised by an adult at all times. Children over 11 are welcome without adult supervision. My child is in the summer camp at the Community Center. Will the camp counselors take my child to swim lessons if they are enrolled during the camp time? No, you must bring your child to the lessons each day and then take them back to camp. However, we do offer swim lessons during camp times. Please see the flyer regarding days/times and prices. What if my child is ill and cannot attend class? Please notify the MUD as soon as possible if your child is ill and we will move him/her to another session or refund your money. What is the policy on bad weather days? We will conduct the Whales Tales lessons on a rainy day and if we have more than two rainy days in a session we will add time to each remaining class and then use Fridays as a makeup day. What is WHALE Tales? The American Red Cross believes that one way to help reduce drowning in children ages 5 12 is to teach water safety education. The American Red Cross created Longfellow s WHALE Tales to help instructors in teaching children about safe behavior in, on and around the water. The materials in this education packet are designed to give children an awareness of being safe around the water and to help promote healthful aquatic recreation.

Should I sign my child up for the next level after this session? Example: My child is in Beginner for session 1, should I sign them up for Intermediate for session 2? We hand out midsession evaluations at the end of the first week of lessons. Once these are filled out by your child s instructor, please ask the instructor if you feel your child is ready for the next level. Each child is different and sometimes it takes a few sessions in each level to advance to the next level. Can I enroll my child in the lessons even if I don t live in Wells Branch MUD? Yes, we offer an out of district rate, which is $55.00 per session. If I am unable to take my child to a class due to sickness, lack of transportation ability or an emergency on a particular day, will my child be able to make up this lesson? Yes, if communicated with the staff, your child can be permitted to temporarily join another class of the same level at a different time if the availability of the class allows. If I sign more than one child up for lessons, can I get a family discount? No, sorry we do not offer family discounts.
