Introduction In the heart of one of Africa s last great wildernesses McCallum Safaris offers a wildlife experience that reflects the original spirit of the true African safari. A spirit of adventure and excitement: of solitude and companionship: and of the splendor of the natural world. The founder of McCallum Safaris, Danny McCallum, was born in Tanzania and has guided safaris here since 1967. The company was built and has evolved based on the ideology of the McCallum s passion for life in the African bush. Today McCallum Safaris offers visitors a chance to appreciate the legacy of a true African adventure based on the roots of a hunting family s traditions. To visit Tanzania is to witness the wild diversity of Africa. A land of unfathomed lakes forged by the Great Rift Valley. Where the dense woodlands of the interior yield to the vast Savannah where mighty rivers run through some of Africa s largest game reserves. Out of such geological and geographical diversity it is a small wonder that the animal kingdom displays its grandeur as nowhere else on earth. Tanzania s enormous wildlife population is supported by a well-regulated, licensed game hunting industry as well as by the attractions of the country s national parks & game reserves. McCallum Safaris is based exclusively in Tanzania and outfits discerning travelers with luxury hunting or photographic safaris in the traditional style that East Africa is known for. Our hunting camps offer the visitor a luxurious and timeless experience into a true hunting safari ensuring that luxury and comfort meet tradition and authenticity. Our photographic safaris are custom built to match your individual requirements, ranging from modern to traditional; hotel or tented; standard to off the beaten track. We strive to meet your requirements and to create the safari of a lifetime.

These contiguous concessions border the Rungwa River in the north, Piti River to the East and Lake Rukwa to the West. These well-watered areas consist of mainly of Miombo woodland, with flood plains, rocky outcrops, mountain ranges and numerous smaller rivers and springs both seasonal and permanent. Because of the permanent water these concessions have large herds of resident buffalo, and are well known for outstanding lion, leopard and sable as well as a variety of other animals such as roan, greater kudu, hippo, crocodile, eland, Lichtenstein s hartebeest, oribi, klipspringer, bushbuck, zebra and duiker.

Later in the year we also offer fantastic cape buffalo hunting. Firearms & Ammunition A maximum of 3 guns per hunter may be imported into Tanzania together with 200 rounds of ammunition per gun. Safari Dates & Travel Arrangements All safaris start and end in Arusha. You should plan to arrive in Arusha (Kilimanjaro International Airport) the day before the start of your safari and arrange to depart from Arusha the day after your safari ends. Please note that the day you fly from Arusha to the hunting area and the day of your return to Arusha from the hunting area are travel days. Therefore if you are hunting for 21 days you should include two extra days. There are daily flights from Europe, the Middle East and South Africa to Kilimanjaro International Airport. If you wish to include a few extra days before and after your safari to relax and visit some of Tanzania s scenic game viewing areas this can be arranged in advance through our office in Arusha. Air Charters Due to the remoteness of our hunting areas it is necessary to charter into and out of camp. All air charters originate and end in Arusha and we do our best to arrange shared charters wherever possible in order to reduce costs. Baggage is limited to 44lbs (20kgs) per person, excluding rifles and ammunition. Soft duffel bags should be used for easier packing on the aircraft. Ground Transportation Our hunting vehicles are all 4 wheel drive equipped with winches, VHF radios, satellite phones, fridges, a comprehensive tool box and a set of essential spare parts. Each hunting car has a team consisting of a driver, trackers/gun bearers and a Government game scout. We have standby hunting vehicles in each camp in case of breakdowns or should you like the assistance of a baiting car.
Hunting Camps All safaris have exclusive use of the camp and area. Our camps are designed to reflect the original spirit of the true African safari in the traditional East African style. Spacious insect proof tents and a large dining area are designed with comfort and coolness in mind. The tents contain many of the luxuries of home - comfortable beds with crisp linen, solar powered electricity and an attached bathroom with flushing toilets and spacious shower. A well trained camp crew consists of cooks, waiters and tent attendants who care for your every need they bring hot water for your showers and early morning tea to your tent, wash and iron your clothes every day and welcome you back to camp each evening with ice cold drinks. Excellent meals in camp are carefully prepared by our cooks who cater, whenever possible, to special dietary requirements. A well stocked bar provides a good selection of locally available wines and spirits. Traditionally inspired rituals such as sundowners and after dinner drinks around the campfire, in the company of your professional hunter, offers you the perfect opportunity to recap the day s adventures and make plans for the next day. Camp locations are dictated by permanent water sources, but with four contiguous concessions covering over seven million acres, hunters are also offered the opportunity to take out a fly camp (spike camp) to either concentrate on a specific trophy or explore sections of the block that are largely untouched. Such excursions offer visiting hunters the taste of the timeless authentic African hunting adventure. Our fly camp equipment is deliberately designed for comfort and practicality; you will typically dine under the stars and the sleeping tents are light and quick to assemble. Shower and loo facilities are provided and the camp is lit by portable solar lights.
Photographic Safaris Tanzania is renowned for its abundant wildlife, national parks and pristine beaches so, for those of you who may wish to relax for a few days before or after your hunting safari, McCallum Safaris can design an itinerary to enable you to experience some of these natural wonders and staggeringly diverse ecosystems. Destinations range from the Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater in the North to the endless waterways of the Selous Game Reserve, the Chimpanzee treks and beauty of the remote Lake Tanganyika or the beautiful Spice island of Zanzibar. The endless Serengeti plains offer the visitor a chance to view thousands of wildebeest, gazelles and zebra, while the legendary black-mane lion, cheetah and other predators follow in close pursuit. The natural amphitheater of the Ngorongoro Crater, rich with diverse habitat and wildlife, allows one to witness a natural wonder. A visit to Zanzibar or one of the coastal resorts can also be arranged, for deepsea fishing and relaxation. Zanzibar in particular also offers an opportunity to visit the fascinating historical Stone Town, which was recently and deservedly declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Stone Town is an old city and the cultural heart of Zanzibar, where little has changed in the last 200 years. It is a place of winding alleys, bustling bazaars, mosques and grand Arab houses. You can spend many idle hours just wandering through the fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets and alleyways.
Conservation and Community Conservation is not only our passion, it is also our duty and responsibility as the custodians of these wildlife areas that have been allocated to us. Land will always be utilized whether it is for farming, grazing, mining, logging or building. Tourist Hunting offers us a way to protect and preserve land, especially in remote areas which are not conducive to photo tourism due to accessibility and wildlife sparsity. Tourist hunting, with its minimal carbon footprint is the only form of wildlife management that will protect these areas from human encroachment and its subsequent impact on wildlife. Old Nyika Safaris and Safari Royal, the custodians of these wildlife-hunting areas, commit a large amount of time, equipment and personnel in them as we feel that it is our duty to promote and enforce anti poaching, wildlife preservation and community development. We conserve our wildlife areas through the careful management of the environment and its natural resources. At the same time we are also committed to ensuring that the rural communities located around these wildlife blocks directly benefit from them. Area and Wildlife management and community development within and around our areas play a very important role in their conservation and perpetuation They provide us with a sensible way of looking after the habitat and controlling the utilization of our wildlife populations for their long-term benefit. Also by wisely consuming, improving and protecting our areas and their natural resource s and by actively involving and improving the livelihood and welfare of the rural communities that surround them we reinforce the value of wildlife and sustainable hunting and ensure its preservation for future generations. Our model of sustainable wildlife utilization through tourist hunting not only gives value to the wildlife it also provides us with motivation to protect and sustain the animals and their habitat. We also strongly believe that local communities should directly understand and benefit from their surrounding natural resources. By doing so they will understand and commit to their preservation. It is our goal to reinforce the value of wildlife as a natural resource through job creation, improved education facilities, improvement in basic healthcare and general economic improvement. We therefore actively encourage rural communities and involve them in our wildlife management program.
