MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY Campus Recreatin Intramural Sprts ELIGIBILITY RULES 5 n 5 BASKETBALL RULES HANDOUT 1. Yu must have a MTSU ID t participate. NO ID, NO PLAY NO EXCEPTIONS! 2. N Persn shall play n mre than ne single sex and c-rec team per sprt. If caught ding s by supervisr r fficial, Player shall be suspended fr remainder f seasn and that game shall be frfeited. Oppsing team des nt have t prtest if caught by supervisr r fficial. 3. N persn shall use false identificatin in rder t participate. If caught, persn will be suspended frm Intramural Sprts and pssibly Campus Recreatin activities fr a perid f time determined by the Cmpetitive Sprts Crdinatr. THE GAME: 1. The Curt: Games will be played n basketball curts 84ft in length and 50ft in width. The 3 pint line used is the high schl white line. 2. Teams: Teams will cnsist f 5 players, but a team may begin a game with 4 players. A maximum f 10 players allwed n the rster. 3. Game: Games will cnsist f tw 20 minute halves. There will be a cntinuusly running clck during the 1 st half. During the last 2 minutes f the secnd half, the clck will nly stp (n the whistle) if the game is within 15 pints. Half time will be 2 minutes in length. 4. Time-Outs: Teams will be given 3 time-uts per game. 5. Warm-Up: Teams may warm up nly if time allws and until 1 minute prir t tip-ff time. 6. Substitutins: Substitutins may be made during any dead ball situatin. Subs must reprt t the scres table and be waived in by an fficial befre entering the game. 7. Equipment: Teams must wear prper clthing while playing and players must wear apprpriate clsed-te ftwear. Hats, bandanas, metal cleats r spikes, r jewelry MAY NOT be wrn while playing. Any player fund wearing any f the abve during the game will be remved frm the game and nt allwed t re-enter. 5 n 5 Basketball 4/30/18
THE GAME: Attire Requirements: All teams must furnish their wn clr matching shirts/jerseys. Each team member must have a shirt with a number n the back. If teams wish t purchase their wn jerseys they must meet these requirements r Intramural Sprts jerseys may be checked ut. (N taped numbers allwed) Individual player equipment must meet the fllwing requirements r he/she will be remved frm the game until adjustments are made: A. Headgear: Players may nt wear baseball style caps, ther rigid headwear, knit caps and stcking caps. Players may wear a headband n wider than tw inches and made f nn-abrasive clth, elastic, fiber, sft leather, r rubber. Bandanas with knts are prhibited. Rubber r clth elastic bands may be used t cntrl hair. Als hair beads are prhibited. B. Pads r Braces: N pads r braces may be wrn abve the waist. Leg and knee braces made f hard, unyielding material must be cvered n bth sides and all edges with apprpriate slw-recvery padding. C. Shes: All players must wear shes. Tennis/running shes are permitted. D. Jewelry: NOT allwed t be wrn by any participant during an intramural event. Exceptin: medical alert bracelets are permitted if taped dwn. If the game is stpped due t imprper attire a technical ful will be assessed. PLAYING REGULATIONS: Only thse members listed n a team s fficial rster may be allwed t sit n the bench. Teams are limited t 1 cach and the cach must be listed n the rster. Players must clear the bench and clean up their trash after shaking hands with the ther team. Failure t d s will result in payment f a frfeit fee. Team Captain: The team captain is the spkespersn fr the team and is the nly team member wh may speak t fficials. Teams are respnsible fr spectatr cntrl. After ne warning, teams may be charged with a technical ful, and spectatr(s) may be asked t leave the facility. Mercy Rule: If ne team has a 50 pint r mre advantage with 15 minutes left in the 2 nd half, 30 pint r mre advantage with 10 minutes remaining in the game, r 20 pint r mre advantage at 5 minutes r less remaining in the game, the referees will fficially end the game. 5 n 5 Basketball 4/30/18
PLAYING REGULATIONS: Technical Fuls: If a team is assessed a technical ful by the game fficials, the ppsing team will be given tw pints and the ball at mid-curt. Tw technical fuls n an individual will result in ejectin frm that game. A PERSON MAY BE EJECTED WITH ONE UNSPORTSMANLIKE CALL. Three technical fuls charged t a team will result in frfeiture f the game and the game will be recrded as 1 lss fr the team. Player Ejectin: If a persn is ejected by an Intramural Official/Supervisr fr unsprtsmanlike cnduct, the persn will be asked t leave the facility and be required t meet with the Intramural Sprts Crdinatr and Assciate Directr f Intramurals, Sprt Clubs, and Wellness befre being reinstated t play. If the player refuses t leave the gym, the game will be stpped and pssibly frfeited. It is the captain s respnsibility fr the behavir f players and spectatrs befre, during and after the game. Pssessin Arrw: The alternate pssessin rule will be used after the initial jump ball at the start f the game. The start f extra perids will start with a jump. Intentinal Ful: During an intentinal ful, the ffended team will be awarded 2 pints and they will retain the ball. If the ffense was in the act f shting when the intentinal ful was made, a made basket will cunt and the ffended team will be awarded the additinal tw pints fr the intentinal ful. Remval f Injured Player: If cach r ther bench persnal is beckned n flr, the injured players must be remved. N time ut charged. Line Infractin: Bundary line infractin with n cntact (illegally reaching thrugh bundary line) will result in ne warning, after the first warning a technical ful will be charged. Thrw In: Untuched thrw-in that ldges n basket r basket supprts is a vilatin and turnver. Basket fr pre-game warm-up: The warm-up basket is the ne furthest frm team s bench. This will be the team s ffensive end during the first half f play. Free Thrws: Players belw the free thrw line may leave n release f the free thrw shter. Frm free thrw line extended players are nly allwed t release n the basketball hp. One & One: Starting with the seventh (7) team ful each half, ne-plus-ne (1&1) free thrws will be awarded fr all cmmn ful. PLAYING REGULATIONS: Arm Swinging: Excessive swinging f arms and/r elbws withut cntact is a vilatin, hwever if there is extreme cntact then it maybe a player ejectin. Delay f Free Thrw: A technical ful shall be called fllwing a team warning fr huddles r cntact with the free thrwer which delays the free thrw. Playff Overtimes: It begins with a jump ball and will last 2 minutes lng; the clck will stp during the last minute nly. Any subsequent vertimes will be ne minute, running clck. Time uts d nt carry ver; teams will be given ne additinal timeut per vertime. SUMMARY OF FOULS AND RESPECTIVE PENALTIES: Fuls with n Free Thrws Awarded: A duble ful, player cntrl ful, r a team ful will nt include the awarding f free thrws. A duble ful (tw ppnents cmmitting persnal fuls simultaneusly): Bth fuls will be entered in the bk and the team with the pssessin gets the ball at the pint f interruptin. A player cntrl ful (a persnal cmmitted by a player while he cntrls the ball): the ful will be entered in the bk and the ppsing team is awarded the ball ut f bunds. A duble ful, ne r bth are flagrant: One player r bth players wh cmmitted the flagrant ful will be ejected frm the game. Technical fuls will result in tw pints being awarded t the nn-ffending team. N shts will be attempted and the nn-ffending team will gain pssessin f the ball, at mid-curt. Tw technical fuls charged t a player will result in the player s ejectin and 3 charged team technical fuls will result in the game being ended at the discretin f the Intramural staff. If in the referee s judgment a ful is intentinal, tw (2) pints will be awarded (even if the attempted sht is made). In additin, the shting team will retain pssessin. A Flagrant ful (a ful f such vilent unsprtsmanlike nature that the guilty player, team manager, r cach requires ejectin frm the game) will result in the awarding f tw/three pints and autmatic ejectin f the guilty persn frm the game and/r the gym. SUMMARY OF FOULS AND RESPECTIVE PENALTIES: Fuls that necessitate free thrws: On the seventh (7th) team ful during a half, ne-plus-ne free thrws will be awarded. On the tenth (10 th ) team ful during a half, tw free thrws will be awarded. Three (3) free thrws will be awarded when a player is fuled while attempting a sht beynd the three pint arch. Hwever, if the sht was made nly ne (1) free thrw will be awarded. Technical Ful: A technical ful will be called fr delaying a game in any manner, using unethical methds t gain an advantage and minr unsprtsmanlike tactics. Technical fuls are charged t the player. A technical ful will be assessed t a team if a persn(s) are nt n the rster but sitting n the bench. The bench area is fr players and caches nly. The resulting technical will be charged t the team and nt an individual. If any f these technical infractins are a vilent, persistent, r aggressive nature, a flagrant technical ful situatin will be used instead f the technical ful. Tw technical fuls by a player, manager, r cach will be an autmatic flagrant ful, resulting in autmatic ejectin frm the game. The nn-ffending team will be awarded the ball at mid-curt. If player is ejected that player has exactly 1 (ne) minute t leave the gym. If nt, that team will frfeit the game. Technical fuls will result in tw pints being awarded t the nn-ffending team. N shts will be attempted and the nn-ffending team will gain pssessin f the ball, at mid-curt. Tw technical fuls charged t a player will result in the player s ejectin and 3 charged team technical fuls will result in the game being ended at the discretin f the Intramural staff. SUMMARY OF FOULS AND RESPECTIVE PENALTIES: Situatins that will result in an autmatic technical ful are: Calling a time-ut when yu have zer (0) remaining. Having mre than 5 members (includes players, team manager, and caches) n the curt simultaneusly fr any reasn at any time. Cmmenting in any manner t an fficial, exceptin being a team captain during a timeut. Any prfanity, vulgarity, r any type f unsprtsmanlike gesture by a player, team manager, r cach. Entering the curt withut reprting t the screr and withut being beckned by an fficial. Shuting And 1 after a sht may result in a technical ful OVERTIME: There will be n vertime during regular seasn games. There will be vertime during playff games. Each vertime perid will be 2 minutes in length. The clck will stp during the last minute nly. Each team will be given 1 time-ut per vertime perid (Unused time-uts will nt carry ver). THE CO-REC GAME The game is played between tw teams f 5 players each. Teams must begin and end the game with n less than 4 players. There may be three (3) wmen and tw (2) men r tw (2) wmen and three (3) men. The gender difference can be n mre than ne (1) at all times (Minus 2 rule des nt apply in 5n5). Scring will be kept as fllws: Three pints will be awarded when a female makes a sht inside the three-pint arc and fur pints will be awarded when a female makes a sht utside the three-pint arc. Baskets made by males will be awarded pints in accrdance with NFHS rules. All free thrws, regardless f gender, are wrth ne (1) pint. Each player will receive the number f free thrws which the sht attempted was wrth. Fr example, a female will receive three (3) free thrws fr a sht attempted inside the arc. Teams may chse t play with a regulatin-sized men s ball r a regulatin sized wmen s ball (28.5). Bth teams must agree. If bth teams cannt agree, a regulatinsized wmen s ball will be the default. Males are nt allwed t blck a female s sht. If this des happen then this will be cnsidered gal tending and the pints will be awarded at the discretin f the fficial. 5 n 5 Basketball 4/30/18
