The meet will be the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference opener for Boise State, and also the secondstraight meet competing against the Aggies after earning a pair of wins last weekend in Davis. SERIES HISTORY After last week s victory, the Broncos now own a six-meet winning streak over the Aggies and a 19-1 advantage in the alltime series. BYU holds a 35-23 edge in the all-time series that dates back to 1979, but Boise State has won the last 14 contests against the Cougars. LAST TIME OUT Boise State (195.700) opened the season on the road at UC Davis (194.325) in a triangular with Seattle Pacific (189.900) and left with two wins. The 195.700 is the second-highest season-opening score in school history, falling just short of the 195.850 that was recorded two years ago in 2014. Krystine won the all-around title with a 39.125, highlighted by her 9.875 on MEET 2 AT BYU/UC DAVIS FRIDAY, JAN. 22 // 7 P.M. (MT) // SMITH FIELDHOUSE TV // BYUTV the uneven bars that also earned her the victory in the event. Mary Frances led the way on vault with a 9.80 for the win and Sandra took home the floor title after posting a personal-best 9.90. The Broncos began the meet on beam, which proved to be their most consistent event of the night, picking up a 48.900. They then moved to floor where they posted a 49.125 for their highest team score of the meet. The Broncos went to vault in the third rotation and earned a 48.750, and then concluded the evening on the uneven bars (48.825). MRGC WEEKLY HONORS After winning the uneven bars and all-around titles in the Broncos season-opening victory on the road over UC Davis and Seattle Pacific, senior Krystine was recognized as the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Gymnast of the Week. In addition, redshirt sophomore Sandra was recognized as co-specialist of the Week for her performance on floor. shared the honor with Southern Utah s Madyson Blake. THE OPPOSITION BYU The Cougars have started the 2016 campaign 0-2 after finishing last season in fifth place at the MRGC Championships. BYU faced Central Michigan last Friday in a 194.775-193.575 loss in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Sophomore Mackenzie Douglas led the team on vault with a 9.775, while senior Makenzie Johnson Halliday led on beam with a 9.800. The Cougars also dropped their first meet to Utah 196.175-193.850 despite Halliday winning the all-around and tying for first on beam with a 9.825. UC DAVIS The Aggies 194.325 at last week s home triangular earned them second place, and it was also the secondhighest home opener in program history. UC Davis earned a 49.025 on beam, a 48.600 on vault, a 48.600 in floor and a 48.325 on the uneven bars. RETURNERS Boise State returns five gymnasts who picked up six combined All-MRGC honors last season. Krystine notched two All-MRGC honors with a first-team nod on uneven bars and a second-team spot on balance beam. Here is a total class breakdown of the roster: Seniors: Krystine, Maddie, Molly and Marissa Juniors: Mackenzie, Diana and Paige Sophomores: (RS) Mary Frances, (RS) Sandra, Alex, Lianne, Ann and Abby. SENIOR LEADERS The Broncos will rely heavily on their four seniors - Krystine, Maddie, Molly and Marissa all season. Combined, the four gymnasts made up nine of the Broncos 24 lineup spots (37.5%) in their season opener. BRONCO CAPTAINS Seniors Maddie and Krystine have been tabbed as team captains for the 2016 season. This will be second go-around as captain and s first season with the title. Freshmen: Sarah and Shani NEWCOMERS, No. 10 RECRUITING CLASS According to CollegeGym- Fans.com, the Broncos two freshmen Sarah and Shani gives the Blue and Orange the No. 10 recruiting class in the country. Two accomplished L10s, and should be a consistent presence in the Boise State lineup this season. 2015 MRGC DEFENDING CHAMPIONS, 2016 FAVORITES The Broncos were tabbed as the favorites of the MRGC heading into the 2016 season. The Blue and Orange received eight points and two of the four first-place votes in the MRGC Preseason Coaches Poll. No. 24 Southern Utah was picked to finish in second with six points and one firstplace vote, and BYU and No. 34 Utah State tied for third in the poll with five points. RECORD SETTERS IN THE CLASSROOM The team recently finished the fall semester with a 3.81 single-semester GPA, setting the record for the highest singlesemester GPA in school history in the process.
