The Asheboro, N.C. native played 12 minutes scoring five points, including draining a three-pointer and added an assist. REBOUNDING BONNER: Sherae Bonner has 798 career rebounds moving her in seventh place in the WCU record books. Bonner is now just two rebounds away from becoming the eighth player in the program s history to have 800 or more rebounds in a career since 2008 when former WCU player Chevon Keith ended her career with 947... The top spot will be a feat for Bonner as former Catamount great Brenda Johnson ended her career with 1,018 from 1974-77. THREE POINTERS: Western Carolina has hit at least one three-pointer in all 19 games and four or more in 10 of the last 11 games... WCU connected on a seasonhigh eight three-pointers against High Point... In conference play, WCU has hit 24 three-pointers. THE MINUTES: Judith Martin Ruiz and Nikki Johnson have reached averaged 30 plus minutes of play in the last three games. HARRIS DISHES IT OUT: Sophomore guard Tess Harris had a well-rounded game against Samford as she had five points, six rebounds and dished out a career-high four assists. Mercer has won all 11 meetings Trend: Mercer is 6-0 at home against WCU. @Catamounts CatamountSports.com Facebook.com/CatamountSports 1

GAME NOTES PLAYER TO WATCH: Lauren LaPlant saw action on the court against Samford after missing six games due to injury. LaPlant is a steady even player who can provide depth at both the perimeter and driving inside. Even with missing six games, LaPlant has already bested her seasonal point total of 94 points with 110 this season including hitting 16 three-pointers this year. Western Carolina is still searching for a SoCon win beginning conference play 0-5... The Catamounts did score a conference-best 59 points against Furman... The Catamounts are averaging 48.6points per game in conference and teams are averaging 59.14 points... The Catamounts are shooting just a bit better at 36 percent to 35.8 by conference opponents. Sherae Bonner currently has 127 career blocks moving her into a tie for third place... With one block she will take over third place and needs four blocks to move into second place knocking off former Catamount standout Brooke Johnson who had 130 blocks in her career. Western Carolina has had its struggles holding a lead after halftime... WCU is just 3-7 this season when leading at the half. All three of Western Carolina s wins this season have come at home... WCU is still searching for a road win sitting at 0-11. In the last five games, WCU has had six different players lead the Catamounts in scoring with three different people scoring 10 points to lead in the game against Wofford... Sherae Bonner paces the team in leading a game in scoring with seven games. Sherae Bonner has some work to do to reach 1,000 points before her career comes to an end. She has 814 career points and needs 186 to reach that plateau... Her 814 points rank 25th in the WCU career record books and she needs three points to move into 24th... With 11 guaranteed games left in Bonner s career, she will need to average 16.9 points per game to hit 1,000 points. As a team, Western Carolina ranks fourth in the nation, and leads the SoCon, in three-point field goal defense allowing teams to shoot just 25.1 percent from behind the arch... It should be an interesting battle from the three-point line as Mercer s KeKe Calloway ranks sixth in the nation in three-pointers made hitting 67 and averaging 3.53 per game ranking 13th in the nation... Overall, teams are shooting 37.1 percent from the field against the Catamounts which leads the SoCon and ranks 70th in the nation... Individually, senior Sherae Bonner ranks second the conference in defensive rebounds averaging seven per game which ranks 30th in the nation. Western Carolina and Mercer meet for the 12th time in the two program s history... The Bears have won all 11 meetings between the two teams and are 6-0 against the Catamounts at home... In the last two meetings in Macon, Ga. Mercer has defeated Western Carolina by an average of 26.5 points... In the last two meetings in Cullowhee, the Mercer has won by just four points or less including escaping Cullowhee last year with a 59-57 on a buzzer beater despite the Catamounts holding the Bears scoreless, 16-0, in the first period of the game. She became the 11th Head Coach for Western Carolina women s basketball April 17, 2015. As a second-year head coach, McCormick helped guide Sherae Bonner to her best season as a Catamount in her junior campaign. For Bonner s efforts, she was named to the SoCon All-Conference third team. In her first season, McCormick helped produce a Southern Conference All-Freshman selection in Raziyah Farrington who ranked second on the team averaging 8.7 points per game. McCormick has served at five different institutions during her career including two stints as an assistant at Western Carolina. Her teams made nine postseason appearances with four apiece in both the NCAA Tournament and WNIT. She returns to Cullowhee after spending two years as an assistant coach at Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y. In her second year as an assistant at Siena, Mc- Cormick helped guide the Saints to a 22-13 overall record, advancing to the Women s Basketball Invitational (WBI) championship game. Siena s 22 wins this season were a 13-win improvement from the previous year, which was tied for the second-best turnaround in all of Division I women s basketball. Siena made its first national postseason tournament appearance in 12 years, and became the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) school to win three games in a single postseason and advance to the championship game of a tournament. Prior to taking the position at Siena, McCormick spent nine years serving under Kellie Harper at both Western Carolina (2004-09) and North Carolina State (2009-13). During that time, she helped guide those schools to three NCAA Tournament and four WNIT berths. The Wolfpack made three postseason appearances during McCormick s four seasons and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2010. That season her recruiting efforts help land the 19th best recruiting class in the nation according to Blue Star Basketball, 28th by ESPN Hoop- Gurlz and 29th by Premier Scouting Service. McCormick, who began her coaching career at Western Carolina from 1994-97 as an assistant to head coach Gary Peters, helped guide the Catamounts to four postseason berths in her five seasons working on Harper s staff, including a pair of Southern Conference titles. She also oversaw the program s academic success which captured three WBCA Academic Top-25 awards in five seasons including the 2007-08 squad which ranked fifth nationally. Prior to her second stint at Western Carolina, McCormick made coaching stops at Georgia Tech (2003-04), Charlotte (2001-03) and UNC Wilmington (1997-01), serving as the associate head coach during her final three seasons with the Seahawks at the latter. She was the recruiting coordinator at both Georgia Tech and Charlotte, which boasted the No. 5 and No. 24 ranked recruiting classes in the country in 2004 and 2002 respectively according to the All Star Girls Report. A native of High Point, N.C., McCormick is a 1994 graduate of Catawba College. She holds her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and is a member of both the Women s Basketball Coaches Association and Black Coaches Association. The first player in school history to amass both 1,000 career points and rebounds, she holds Catawba s school record for both career (1,244) and single season rebounds (374). In 2013, she was inducted into the Catawba College Sports Hall of Fame in its 36th class. 6 Western Carolina Women s Basketball Game Notes 2017-18
