But an even bigger one is looming. Not quite 24 hours after downing Northwest Nazarene in the first round of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference women s basketball tournament, SPU will be back on the court to face well-rested Alaska Anchorage in the semifinals on Friday at Saint Martin s. TRIPLE MILESTONE FOR SHIM Senior Rachel Shim was on the verge of three career milestones entering Thursday s game and hit all three. The starting point guard needed just one field goal for her 100th, and got that late in the first quarter on a putback lay-in. She finished with four, and now has 103. Shim needed two rebounds to reach 100, and had those by the end of the first quarter. She and has 103. Finally, Shim was 11 points away from her 300th. She got there on the second of two free throws with 1:15 left in the fourth quarter during SPU s gameending 13-0 scoring run. Shim had 12 points for the day, giving her 301. She now has four milestones in the span of two weeks. Last week, Shim logged her 100th career assist. Tip-off in Marcus Pavilion is at 2:15 p.m. The Seawolves (27-1) had a first-round bye, so were able to sit in the stands and watch as the Falcons battled to a 71-60 victory against NNU. Anchorage, the defending tournament champion, top seed for this year, and No. 2 nationally, has won 23 in a row. The winner of today s game advances to the final on Saturday at 5:15 p.m.. NCAAs ON THE LINE The tournament winner will receive the GNAC s automatic bid to the NCAA West Regional tournament, which will begin next Friday. Also getting automatic bids will be the champions of the California Collegiate Athletic Association and Pacific West Conference tournaments. The other five lines of the eight-team bracket will be filled by the highest-ranked teams among the non-champions. SPU comes into the week at No. 10 two spots out of making the NCAAs. The teams immediately ahead of the Falcons No. 7 Hawaii Pacific, No. 8 Cal State East Bay, and No. 9 Cal Poly Pomona all won their respective first-round tournament games to advance to the semifinals of the Pacific West Conference tournament (HPU) and California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament (East Bay, Pomona). All of that means Seattle Pacific likely would have to win the tourney to make regionals. 2016-17 SCHEDULE / RESULTS (19-10, 10-10 GNAC) Oct. 29 at Seattle U (exhibition) W, 53-45 Nov. 5 George Fox (exhibition) W, 72-56 Sodexo Tip-Off Classic (Brougham Pavilion) Nov. 11 Fresno Pacific W, 90-39 Nov. 12 Humboldt State W, 67-36 West Region Crossover (at Whatcom CC / Bellingham.) W. WASHINGTON IN FINALS All-time series: WWU leads, 58-29 Current series streak: WWU won 4. This season: WWU 71, SPU 53 (Jan. 14 at Bellingham) WWU 69, SPU 50 Feb. 9 at Seattle SEATTLE PACIFIC FALCONS: 19-10, 10-10 GNAC (tie 4th) The Falcons opened the sesaon with 11 straight victories, the fourth-best start in school history, and were ranked as high as No. 13 in the national poll. Even after Northwest Nazarene halted that winning streak, SPU got right back on track and was 13-1 at the midpoint of the 28-game schedule. That s when the roller coaster ride started. The Falcons went through a rough stretch of four straight losses, but countered that with four wins in a row all on the road, A five-game skid followed, but SPU comes into the tournament on a winning note, having scored a 70-60 decision against Western Oregon in the regular-season finale last Saturday. Junior forward Courtney Hollander leads SPU in scoring at 11.9 points per game and rebounding at 7.1, but missed the last four contests with an injury. Junior guard / forward Jordan McPhee is the other Falcon in double digits with her 11.2 average. In the last four regular-season games, three different Falcons led the way in scoring (McPhee, senior forward Hannah Rodrigues, and sophomore center Carly Rataushk), and four set the pace on the boards (McPhee, senior guard Brianne Lasconia, junior forward Erica Pagano, and Rodrigues). Through it all, Seattle Pacific has remained one of the best defensive teams (allowing just 59.4 points per game to rank No. 2 behind Anchorage) and one of the best passing teams (No. 3 at 16.8 assists per game) in the conference. HOLLANDER, HAINING ARE BACK All-GNAC forward Courtney Hollander, who missed the last four regular-season games with an injury, and reserve center Julia Haining, injured for the last eight games, As late as this Tuesday, coach Julie Hei both returned to action on Thursday ALASKA ANCHORAGE SEAWOLVES: 27-1, 20-0 GNAC (1st) SPU HOW DO THEY COMPARE? Hollander subbed in with 5:28 left in the first quarter and went on to play 20 minutes, scoring five points and tying for the team lead with six rebounds. Haining was in for three minutes. She did not have any points or rebounds. All-time series: SPU leads, 39-29. Current series streak: UAA won 10. Last time: UAA 94, SPU 50 (Feb. 18 at Anchorage). Seawolves in a nutshell: Anchorage is coming off two hard-fought road wins to close the regular season, 75-72 in double OT at Western Washington, and 77-72 at Simon Fraser UAA still has just one player averaging in double figures but it s a monster average of 21.1 points for senior Autummn Williams. Against the Falcons, she scored a then-career high 29 in Seattle, and 22 in Alaska. She has led Anchorage in scoring for the last 16 games. But others are capable of lighting up the board, as well. Kimjah King came off the bench against SPU in Anchorage to hit all seven shots from the field in scoring 21 points. The Seawolves are very effective at forcing turnovers 26.3 per game with their full-court pressing defense. They got 19 and 24 from SPU in the two games. C. WASHINGTON IN FINALS All-time series: SPU leads, 48-30 Current series streak: SPU won 2. This season: SPU 64, CWU 58 (Dec. 27 at Seattle) SPU 54, CWU 51 Jan. 28 at Ellensburg SO WHAT S THE STORY ON FRIDAY? -- SPU is now 3-5 all-time in GNAC Tournament games, with all three wins coming in the first round. -- This will be the fourth semifinal appearance for the Falcons. Their last one was in 2015, falling to Western Washington in overtime, 72-67. -- Seattle Pacific and Anchorage will meet for the second time in the semis. The first one was during the inaugural GNAC Tournament in 2011, when the Falcons built a 19-point second-half lead at Anchorage before the Seawolves came back to win, 68-66. -- In the first of this year s two SPU-UAA games, the Falcons had a nine-point halftime lead at 34-25. The Seawolves then went on a 16-4 run coming out of halftime, and an 11-1 surge early in the fourth quarter on the way to a 71-62 win on Jan. 19 in Seattle. -- On Feb. 18 in Alaska, the Seawolves never trailed and were never tied in a 94-50 rout. --That was the most points SPU had allowed since a 94-83 loss to Drury in the 2004 NCAA Division II Elite Eight. -- Falcons senior Hannah Rodrigues tied the school single-game record for free throw accuracy (minimum 10 attempts) by draining 13 of 14 for a 92.9 percent success rate. --The last win over Anchorage was 67-62 on Feb. 2, 2012, in Seattle. -- Coach Julie Heisey is 11-7 vs. UAA. -- Seawolves coach Ryan McCarthy is 10-0 vs. SPU.

Jordan McPhee scored 15 points, one of four Seattle Pacific players in double figures, and the Falcons finished the game on a 13-0 scoring run to beat Northwest Nazarene in the first round of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference women s basketball tournament on Thursday afternoon at Saint Martin s University, 71-60. Rachel Shim and Erica Pagano added 12 points apiece for Seattle Pacific, and Carly Rataushk came off the bench to add 10. The Falcons were down 60-58 after NNU s Ellie Logan hit a five-footer from the left of the lane with 4:34 to play. But that was the last point they allowed the Crusaders (12-15), who came in averaging 77.9 per game. Pagano, playing with four fouls, tied the game on a putback with 2:45 left. Then senior forward Hannah Rodrigues who missed much of the game with foul trouble, and also was playing with four throughout the fourth quarter put the Falcons ahead, 62-60, a three-footer through traffic to the right of the hoop at the 1:32 mark. The last nine points came on free throws: three by Shim, two by Pagano, two by Lindsay Lee, and the last two by Rodrigues. While the Falcons were racking up those 13 points, they forced NNU into six missed shots and five turnovers during that last 4:34.

But those shots stopped finding the hole after halftime. And the No. 5-ranked Seawolves started banging down more of their own to climb out of it. Autummn Williams poured in 29 points on Thursday night as Anchorage wiped out a nine-point halftime deficit to score a 71-62 GNAC victory.. The Falcons dropped their third straight game while UAA won its 12th in a row. Junior guard Lindsay Lee tallied a careerhigh 12 points for SPU all during the first half and all from behind the 3-point arc. She also came up with a career-best five steals. Senior guard Brianne Lasconia added 11 points. SPU used a 13-0 second-quarter scoring run to turn a 21-16 deficit into a 29-21 lead. Lee had the first six points of that, then factored into the next two baskets by earning the assist. The Falcons took a 34-25 advantage into the locker room. SPU kept the Seawolves 13 points below their 84.4 average, which ranks No. 5 in D2. Lee beat her previous career highs of 11 points (Dec. 31 vs. Northwest Nazarene) and two steals (three times) Anchorage went on a 16-4 run coming out of halftime, including stretch of nine points in a row, and went back in front, 41-38. Seattle Pacific responded and edged back ahead by the end of the third quarter, 47-45 The Falcons then managed just one point a free throw by Hannah Rodrigues in the first 5:53 of the fourth quarter. Autummn Williams poured in 22 points for UAA, which won its 21st game in a row. The Falcons once again were without the services of starting forward, leading scorer and rebounder Courtney Hollander and starting point guard Rachel Shim. They also missed Thursday s 63-61 loss at Alaska Fairbanks. Senior forward Rodrigues, who started in place of Hollander, hit 13 of 14 from the line, a 92.9 percentage. That matched the record (with a minimum of 10 attempts) set by Kerie Hughes on Jan. 5, 2002 against Western Washington. Alaska Anchorage went on an 13-2 run to take a 19-7 lead just beyond the midpoint of the first quarter. The Seawolves margin never dropped below double digits the rest of the night. They had a 52-23 advantage at the break. In addition to her 13 points, Rodrigues had four rebounds (three at the offensive end) and two assists in 31 minutes. Junior guard Jordan McPhee added an all-around line of 10 points, four rebounds, four assists, three steals and one blocked shot. Junior guard Lindsay Lee added 10 points off the bench, draining 4 of 5 from the field, including 2 of 3 from 3-point range. The last team to score that many points on Seattle Pacific was Drury in a 94-83 victory in the first round of the 2004 Elite Eight.
