Banff No Hit Hockey League Rules and Regulations League General 1. Team Representatives: Two team representatives supplied by each team. 2. Voting Motions: One vote per team, one vote per Officer, Tie-breaking vote by the President. Rosters 3. Team Rosters: Maximum of 17 players allowed on the roster of which 1 must be a properly dressed goaltender. No Exceptions. 4. Minimum roster for a game: A minimum of 8 players required to start each game (of which one must be a properly dressed goaltender). Failure to follow this results in forfeit of game. By agreement of possible winning team, this rule can be waived to play that game. Only exception is that a properly dressed goaltender must be present. 5. Roster verification: Team captains/reps are to "certify" game sheet rosters at the beginning of each game 6. Dropped Players: Once a player has been dropped from your roster to bring in additional players, that player will be ineligible to play again for that team that season. 7. Rosters/Final Rosters: A teams roster will consist of the player name, phone number, date of birth and must be signed by the player each season. Final roster must be completed and submitted by the end of the first half of the schedule. Failure to follow this will result in the last official game sheet prior to the roster deadline being the final roster for the team. 8. Illegal Non-roster Players: Illegal non-roster players will be ineligible to play for the remainder of that season for that team. 9. Playing on multiple teams: No player will play with more than any one team at any given time. A player must be considered "cut" from his previous team and be ineligible to play again for that team that season in order to play for a different team.
Rules 10. Age Restrictions (A Division and B-Division): Minimum age is 18 years with a signed consent form. 11. Failure to Adhere to Rules and Regulations: Failure to adhere to these Rules and Regulations may result in expulsion of the offending member or member team by the League 12. Official Hockey Rules: The Banff No Hit Hockey League abides by the Canadian Hockey Association's Official Hockey Rules except for amendments in these regulations. 13. Match Penalties: Any match penalty resulting from an intent-to-injure situation will result in a minimum 5-game suspension and may result in a permanent suspension at the discretion of the League. 14. Body Contact: No unnecessary body contact will be tolerated (No checking). Body checking will result in a 2-minute minor; deliberate body contact in a 5- minute major. 15. Stick Penalties: Any player receiving 2 stick penalties in a game will be ejected for that game only. Stick infraction penalties are considered to be in the following: (a) High Sticking (b) Cross Checking (c) Slashing (d) Butt-Ending (e) Spearing 16. High Sticking: A player who contacts an opponent above the normal height of his/her shoulders with a high stick shall be assessed a double minor. Note: It is the responsibility of all players to be in care and control of their stick at all times during the game. 17. Fighting: No fighting will be tolerated, a 5-game minimum suspension for the first offense, if an aggressor is named, an additional game will be automatically assessed. Second fighting offense will result in a calendar year suspension. Note: Dropping your gloves is an automatic game suspension and will be reviewed by the League
18. Game Misconducts: Any player or coach that receives a game misconduct penalty will be ejected for the balance of the game. If this penalty is assessed in the last period of the game, an automatic one game suspension will be assessed. All game misconduct penalties are subject to review and possible further suspension. 19. Three Penalties = Game Ejection: Any player receiving three (3) penalties in a game will be ejected for the remainder of that game only. (If the third minor penalty is co-incidental, that player will not be ejected until a fourth minor is incurred). 20. Suspensions: To clarify player suspensions, the following formula will be used: (a) Game Misconduct: (b) Gross Misconduct: (c) Match Penalty: (d) Fighting: Ejected from that game and if the misconduct is assessed in the last period, that player will be given a 1 game suspension. 2-Game Suspension & Review by League 5-Game Suspension & Review by League 5-Game Suspension Plus 5 penalty minutes (Fighting Major) 21. Abuse of Officials (Regardless of which penalty is written on the game sheet) (a) The BNHHL will not tolerate abuse of officials. The following suspensions will be applied regardless of the penalty type listed on the game sheet. If a player has been identified for threatening or physically abusing an official, the following suspensions will apply: (i) (ii) Verbal Abuse of Officials: Game ejection plus 1 Game Suspension & Review by League Physical Abuse of Officials: Suspended Indefinitely. 22. Suspensions: Suspension period begins the first game after the infraction occurs. Team Reps are responsible for ensuring the player in question sits until the suspension has been served.
23. Dressing an illegal/suspended player: Playing illegal or suspended players will result in forfeiting that game (full points for the win are transferred to the team which was in opposition of the violating team) 24. Equipment: Proper equipment, including a helmet, must be worn at all times. Facial visors are not mandatory but are advised. Note: There is no Insurance Coverage when just a helmet is worn. 25. Slap shots: Slap shots are allowed. 26. Game Preparation: Games must start within 5 minutes of the ice time booking: Example - Schedule time at 2:00, game must be started by 2:05. Late players will be allowed until the end of the first period if they are on the game sheet and there were enough players to start the game. Length of periods will be determined as follows; 80-minute ice bookings: 2 x 20 minute periods. 90-minute ice bookings: 2 x 20 minute periods playoffs. All periods are to be stop-time. 27. Appearance: Proper numbered uniforms. 28. Standings Tie Breakers: Teams tied at the end of the season will finish based on; 1-Most Wins, 2-Least losses, 3-Most Goals For, 4-Least Goals Against. 29. Team Rep Responsibilities: Team representatives must police their own teams. Failure to do so could result in suspensions ranging from temporary to indefinite as per the Repeat Offenders rule. Abuse towards referees, scorekeepers, etc. will not be tolerated. 30. Repeat Offenders: Players who are suspended more than once in a season are to be considered "Repeat Offenders" and will be subject to additional suspensions based on the number of times they are suspended in a season. 1st Offense: Regular suspension 2nd Offense: Regular suspension 3rd Offense: Suspended for remainder of season, no exceptions.
31. League Schedule: Member teams shall comply with the League schedule as provided. The League reserves the right to modify the schedule as required to accommodate changes in ice bookings provided. 32. Length of Game: Regular season games will be 1 hour and 20 minutes in length. In the event that a game is running behind due to the occurrence of the game, the clock will be cut to 5 minutes run time when there is 5 minutes left in the time slot. In the event that a game is being played in an unsafe manner, the referee, at his/her discretion can end the game at any point. A full report must then be forwarded to the league. Playoffs are 1 hour and 30 minutes in length. 33. Overtime: There will be no overtime for the regular season. Playoffs 34. Playoff Eligibility: All rostered players are eligible to play unless under suspension. Teams can submit a request to consider injured players as a possible exception to this rule. Approval of an injured player for playoff eligibility is at the discretion of the League.) (a) A-Division, B-Division All players participating in the playoffs must have demonstrated a commitment to their team during the regular season by playing a minimum of 10 games (based upon a 22-game schedule) or they will be considered an illegal player. 35. Playoff Format: The format for overtime will be a 4 on 4, sudden death, 10 minute running time period. If at the end of the 10 minutes and the game is still tied a fourth period will be played with 5-minute runtime. If the game is still tied we will move to a shoot out. The shoot-out format will follow the NHL rules. The home team shall decide which team shoots first.
League Policy 36. All players, coaches, and spectators within the Banff No Hit Hockey League attend at their own risk of personal loss, damage, or injury, however caused. 37. Generally accepted practices and policies of ice hockey for senior men's amateur hockey are adhered to by the Banff No Hit Hockey League. 38. It is the objective of the Banff No Hit Hockey League to promote and expand senior men's recreational hockey within the Town of Banff. Sportsmanship and responsibility are expected from all associated members to help reach this goal. 39. The interpretation and enforcement of these Rules and Regulations is to be at the discretion of the Banff No Hit Hockey League.
