DEPARTMENT F - OPEN SHEEP AMOUNT OFFERED: $13,115.00 SUPERINTENDENTS: Jacob Snook 815-541-0560 and Tyler Lobdell 815-238-0832 ENTRY FEE: $3.00/entry PEN FEE: $5.00/pen 1. All exhibitors showing in open show ONLY must be in place by 11 pm, Wednesday, June 27th, 2018. Market lambs weigh-in will be between 5 and 7 pm. 2. The Sheep Show will be open to all exhibitors from Stephenson, Jo Daviess, Carroll, Winnebago, Ogle, Boone, Lee, Whiteside, DeKalb, and Bureau Counties. 3. Pen size is 6 'x 6'. IMPORTANT: Give the number of animals and number of pens needed. No bedding will be furnished. The Fair Association reserves the right to assign pens and close entries in any department when housing facilities are exhausted. Exhibitors will be allowed one feed/display combo pen only. This is solely at the discretion of the Supervisor. 4. Entries in this department will close on 6/9/18 at noon, or must be postmarked by 6/9/18. NO LATE ENTRIES OR TELEPHONE ENTRIES. All entries must appear on an entry blanks. No changes in entries after closing date. 5. Animals CANNOT be entered as a Purebred unless they have been recorded in the recognized books of record for their respective breeds and exhibitors must produce certificates of registry at the request of the Superintendent. Lambs must be registered (applies to Colored Breeds also.) REGISTRATION PAPERS MUST BE ON THE GROUNDS AT ALL TIMES. No copies are allowed must be originals. 6. Read regulations governing Livestock Exhibits at Illinois Fairs on pages in the front portion of this Premium Book. 7. Check location of pens before unloading and locate accordingly. The assignment must be adhered to and no alterations will be allowed. If extra pens are available they will be spaced so all exhibitors will benefit. 8. The Superintendent reserves the right to limit 1 pen for every 3 animals entered if lack of space exists. 9. Sequence of Show will be split between Friday and Saturday: AOB, Dorset, Montadale, Shropshire, Colored, Suffolk, AOB Wool, Southdown, Oxford, Cheviot and Hampshire. Superintendent has the right to change the sequence of the show. 10. SENIOR LAMB CLASS: Senior Lambs will be 9/1/17 and after for Columbia, Montadale, Corriedale, Suffolk, Hampshire, Dorset and AOB. 9/1/17 to 2/15/18 and 2/16/18 and after for Cheviot, Oxford, Shropshire and Southdown. JUNIOR LAMB CLASS: Junior Lambs will be 1/1/18 and after for all breeds. 11. Market Show will consist of all market lambs and or ewe lambs. They will consist of three classes: Lightweight, Medium and Heavy Weight. Lambs must be completely slick shorn within 5 days of opening day of the fair. All lambs must be weighed, and will be weighed between 5:00 and 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 27th, 2018 if selling in Jr. Livestock Auction. 12. All market lambs must have feed and water at all times. Any inhuman treatment of animals such as slapping, shots, shocks, use of alcohol, curry combs, etc. will not be allowed. If found doing these acts, the exhibitor will be asked to leave and will forfeit all premiums. 13. All lambs must have their lamb teeth in order to show in the Lamb Classes. 14. The American and Illinois Southdown Sheep Associations require that all Southdown s be shorn within 5 days of the show. Wool may be left below the knees and hocks and also below the eyes and muzzle. 15. The National Shropshire Association requires that all Shropshire be shorn with 5 days of the show. All animals shown in junior classes must be the property of the boys and girls showing them. If the same animals are shown in both the open classes and junior classes, they shall be shown under the same exhibitor s name. 1. Release time is Sunday, July 1 at 3:00 PM! 2. An entry fee of $3.00 will be charged in this department. All entries in this department close at noon on 6/9/18 or postmarked by 6/9/18. NO TELEPHONE ENTRIES. 3. A pen fee of $5 per pen for Junior Exhibitors unless exhibitor has pens reserved in the Open Show. No bedding is furnished. 4. Each exhibitor will be limited to showing 2 entries per class, collecting 2 premiums in each breeding show and limited to 2 separate breeds. 5. Each exhibitor must have owned all sheep individually. 6. If entering in a pair or group class, all animals must be owned by the same exhibitor. 7. All sheep must be registered and recorded on the recognized books of record for Breed. Registration papers must be in the name of the Junior exhibitor ONLY! Registration papers must be available ON THE GROUNDS AT ALL TIMES FOR COUNTY AND STATE OFFICIALS TO CHECK. 8. Registration papers will be checked before being allowed to show. 9. See Special Health Rules 2018 Exhibition Livestock Health Requirements. 10. Lamb classes ages will be split according to Open Show rules. 11. Showmanship may not be won two consecutive years. 12. Sequence of show will follow breeding show order. 13. All Junior Open exhibitors selling in Saturday s Junior Open Livestock Auction must enter by the Thursday of Fair Week and must be weighed on Wednesday night at 5:00 and 7:00pm. This is the exhibitor s responsibility and animals cannot be sold if this is not done. 14. Entries close on 6/9/18 at noon or postmarked by 6/9/18. 2. The objective of this event is to present a class of sheep in the most attractive manner and to give spectators an opportunity to view a class of beauty with the best of the Sheep Industry. 3. Competition is open to anyone between ages of 8 and 18. The entrant will be judged on mode of dress selected, which is appropriate, attractive, and lend elegance to the class. Garment must be made of wool or wool blend. 4. Sheep must be registered, fitted, and have been conditioned and trained to show with a halter. 5. Entries to be judged according to the following score card: 50 points - Contestant/Contestant Costume, 30 points - Appearance of animal (no rams), and 20 points Control and Presentation. 6. Each contestant is required to submit a resume to Superintendents prior to the show. PREMIUM: $20-15-10-5 Entry Class; class will be divided into 2 classes.
