PENINSULA GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB originated as Beresford Country Club in 1912 The original club house was built in 1913. The membership was drawn from the wealthy San Francisco society and remained basically unchanged through 1941. Nineteen forty-one dates the beginning of the Peninsula Golf & Country Club as we now know it. There have been numerous renovations from this date as the surrounding area of San Mateo developed. The last course change was the redesign of the fifth green in 1978. The current management of the course is under the supervision of FRED MAYS who has been superintendent since 1966. The 18 hole championship course measurers 7,494 yards, par 71, course rating 71.3, which is built on approximately 70 acres. Full restuarant dining facilities, pool and tennis courts complete the services offered at the club. Bob Moore has been the Class A P.G.A. head professional since 1968. and his staff offer a full range of services from teaching to club fitting and repair. He JANUARY meeting - The hospitality of Roy King and Sharon Heights CC hosts for our meeting was superb. The rain did not dampen the warmth and cooperation between the management and staff. The food was excellent. Thanks to Roy and Sharon Heights for a very enjoyable day. 102 were in attendance. LAST MONTH FOR STAMPED-RETURN RESERVATION CARD The Board of Directors voted to DISCONTINE PUTTING POSTAGE ON CARDS WHICH ARE RETURNED TO MAKE RESERVATIONS FOR THE MEETINGS. The past policy of including postage has grown more expensive and wasteful with the increase of rates since a small percentage of those sent out were returned. Cards will be sent for reservations but REMEMBER to place a stamp on the card when returning it next month. CONTINUE to send cards in to make reservation for lunch and golf.

TURFGRASS ADAPTIVE RESEARCH PROGRAM (TARP) The TARP program a coopérative effort between the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA), the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Northern California (GCSANC) and the University of California, Agricultural Extension Service, Department of Environmental Horticulture was designed to search out information on problems on golf course maintenance and to dissemenate that information to the clubs via the golf course superintendent, the green chairman, and other club officiais. One way to get this information out is the TARP régional meetings normally held in the spring of each year. These meetings are planned again this year beginning in April and ending in June. In the past the programs at the meetings have been academic. This year the plan is to give the superintendent and green chairman the opportunity to help décidé what they want covered in their area. The programs will be structured to cover progress on the work that is being done at UC Davis, a report from the Farm Advisor in the County that the meeting is held, and NCGA and GCSANC représentatives dealing with current and timely subjects Northern California Golf Association will be sending this information out to the clubs and green chairmen.
