Team Hitting Plan Advanced Baseball and Softball Training - Coach s Edition

TEAM HITTING PLAN When it comes to running a team practice for hitting, each coach and team has unique parameters they have to work within. Sometimes the parameters are time, but usually the issue is space and resources. Some coaches only have a field at a park with 1 or 2 tees and some coaches have a million dollar facility with multiple hitting tunnels. My Team Hitting Plan will help you no matter where you fall on that spectrum. There are five stations that we want our hitters to work out of each day if possible.

BE THE GUIDE We want each hitter to get 100+ swings per day based on their age/ability level and the time you have. Each station can have more than 1 drill. In fact, for a large team we usually have 2-3 drills for each station.

Station Rotation Station 1: Movement station In the movement station we really want to work on the proper body movements that we work on in our swing. I would assign homework with all of these drills as well as they can all be done at home on their own. Separation Drill Half turns Full turns Stride Drill Ice Cream Scoop Drill Med Ball Toss with partner or wall Separation Drill Half Turns Drill Full Turns Drill Stride Drill Ice Cream Scoop Drill Med Ball Toss w/ partner or wall

Station 2: Tee Drills At the Tee Drill stations we re really trying to focus our energy on the movements. I would spend more time on tee drills with hitters that are still learning the drills and movements. As your team gets better and better at them, I would have more front toss drills than tee drills if your space and resources allow. Hit Pause Drill Bat Path Drill One Handed Drills K Posture Drill Stride & Separate Drill Hit Pause Drill Bat Path Dril One Handed Drills K Posture Drill Stride & Separate Drill

Station 3: Front Toss Drills Depending on your space and resources, you should have at least 1-2 front toss stations per day. Some coaches are lucky enough to be able to have more. We try to have 1-2 drills of front toss and than have 1 front toss station that is strictly swing away. Hit Pause Drill Bat Path Drill Full Turns with Timing Bounce Drill Change Up Drill Swing Away Hit Pause Drill Bat Path Dril Full Turns with Timing Bounce Drill Change Up Drill Swing Away

Station 4: Live or Machine Station Not everyone can have a live or machine station at practice but if you do, I d recommend just allowing them to swing away. Focus on hitting the ball hard and far. If we have the ability to have 2 stations of Live/Machine, we will have one of the stations working on off-speed/timing. The best way to do Live pitching is on the field Hit Pause Drill Bat Path Drill Three Plate Drill Swing Away Hit Pause Drill Bat Path Dril Three Plate Drill Swing Away

Station 5: Create Your Own Station Whether it s a body movement, tee, front toss or live give them a station to work on the drill that that either you assign to them individually or that they choose based on what they need. Each hitter should have a list of drills that are specific to their needs.

Ideal Hitting Practice Not every coach can have the ideal hitting situation for their team practices in regards to facilities but if you do have an amazing facility with lots of tunnels, here is the Ultimate Team Practice Plan that I have used with my teams with 16-20 hitters. Paired up with another hitter. Two Rounds of: Station 1: Station 2: Station 3: Station 4: Station 5: Station 6: Station 7: Station 8: Movement Drill Movement Drill Tee Drill (7-10 swings) Tee Drill (7-10 swings) Front Toss (7-10 swings) Front Toss (7-10 swings) Live/Machine on the field (7-10 swings) Create Your Own Station (7-10 swings) Each hitter should get 50-60 swings per round. Resulting in about 100-120 swings per hitter in less than an hour.
