COLORADO 2017 TEAM CAPTAIN MEETING PLEASE FOLLOW ALL ACTIVE VAN DIRECTIONS. COLORADO ONLY HAS THE SUMMER TO DO CONSTRUCTION AND YOU WILL NEED THE NOTES TO GET TO AND FROM EACH EXCHANGE RAGNAR RELAY SERIES TAKES STRIDES TO GO GREEN This year ne f ur majr pririties is t make the Ragnar Relay Series mre sustainable. We are determined t make small changes that will add up in a big way. Here are 3 ways we will imprve sustainability acrss the Ragnar Relay Series this year: Trash Liners fr Each Van: Van 1 and Van 2 will receive three clear trash liners, and ne blue trash liners at the start line and Exchange 6. There will NOT be trash at Minr Exchanges, instead, please use the trash liners and dispse f the trash prperly at designated dumpsters at the Majr Exchanges. Recycling: We will have recycling at a few majr exchanges and the finish line. Please use the blue trash liners fr recycling items and dispse recycling at recycling bins at these lcatins. Re-useable Water Bttles: We are strngly encuraging runners t use re-useable water bttles. Bring a big cler f water in yur van, and fill up yur smaller water bttles as needed. Water will be available t refill clers at majr exchanges. N paper cups will be prvided Sustainability and YOU We re all in this tgether. Dn t Idle: When yu are pulled ver n the side f the rad cheering fr a teammate, r waiting at an exchange area turn yur car ff. Be Cstume Cnscius: Feather bas, sparkles and streamers are all things that can accidently trash the curse. When yu are cming up with team cstumes and van decratins, make sure that nthing culd inadvertently fly ff and cause a mess. Drive the speed limit: Driving the speed limit is nt nly the safe thing t d, yu als wn t be using excess amunt f fuel. Reusable Grcery Bags: Mst Ragnarians will bring at a minimum energy bars, fruit and snacks in their van. Instead f using plastic bags t transprt yur fd frm the grcery stry t the van, use reusable grcery bags. (Remember yu ll have the liners t dispse f trash that accumulates in yur van). Carpl: By running a Ragnar Relay, yu ll autmatically be carpling as yu traverse sme f the mst beautiful areas the cuntry has t ffer. What abut carpling t the start line, finish line, pre-race party and training runs? It s mre fun t have a c-pilt anyways.

OTHER VERY IMPORTANT ITEMS Like all runners, we ve gt drawers full f technical shirts many smell bad. This year we wanted t have a race shirt that lked amazing, felt awesme and was smething we wuld be prud t wear, n matter the cst. The shirts are a 40/60 cttn-ply blend that is sft, will hld up ver time and still has a slight technical feel. N stiff cttn fr yu. In the end, we spent mre mney n shirts than we have befre but we ended up with smething yu ll be prud t wear during and after yur run. T-shirts will distributed at the Pre-Race Party, Start and Exchange 6 nly. T-Shirts will be distributed based n the registered size. Any participant wanting t exchange a t-shirt can d s at the finish line. If yu registered r added yur t-shirt size after July 15 th PLEASE FOLLOW ALL ACTIVE VAN DIRECTIONS. Vlunteers Pay fr vlunteer ptin clses n Aug 20, 2017. If yur vlunteers dn t shw up fr their shift, yur team will be disqualified. We wuld rather nt disqualify teams s please sign up yur vlunteers. Yur vlunteers can get a cpy f the Vlunteer Packet by emailing (ClradVlunteers@RagnarRelay.Cm). Additinally, final vlunteer cnfirmatins with a cpy f the packet are scheduled t g ut via email 7 days befre the race, and will cnnect yur vlunteers with their shift manager(s). Please have yur vlunteers cntact the vlunteer crdinatr at (ClradVlunteers@RagnarRelay.Cm)if they d nt receive this cnfirmatin Turn Signs: We have many signs alng the 200 mile-ish curse. Sme signs will inevitably get turned, kncked dwn, and/r stlen. We will have Ragnar Staff patrlling the curse t keep the signs maintained during the race but teams shuld keep track f maps and runners lcatins. Final deadline t add runners: Sunday befre the race (August 20th). After this date, yu may add runners and have them sign waivers n site race day. Yu will be charged $20 per registratin n race day all payments will be made at exchange 6 fr the entire team. Lst and Fund at the Race: We ften have clthing items, electrnics, wallets and ther persnal effects turned in t the staff. Thse items are cllected and taken t the finish line. Participants can check in at the Ragnar HQ tent at the finish line t see if a lst item has been turned in. If nt claimed at the finish line, imprtant items such as wallets will be sent t the Ragnar Office. All clthing items will be dnated t a charity the Saturday evening f the race. If yu d nt claim yur items at the race, yu can request them thrugh Ragnar Custmer Service at custmerservice@ragnarrelay.cm Preventing theft: whenever yur team gets ut f the van at an exchange, be sure t lck the drs behind yu (make sure smene has the keys with them, and nt the next runner!). While it is easy t be trusting f a sea f peple wearing superher cstumes and tutus, yu are leaving a lt f valuables (electrnics, cash, etc) in the car and ur events are nt withut theft. 2

PRE-RACE PACKET PICK UP (This is ptinal but attendance will make yur race day run mre smthly) 1. Van 1 (runners 1-6) and Van 2 (runners 7-12) can bth check in at the Pre-Race Packet pick up n Thursday Aug 24 th. This will be at Cpper Muntain (Big Hrn Cnference Rm) frm 6PM-9PM. 2. Yu d nt need bth vans present. Vans can check in separately. Yu d need all members f the van t be present and yu must have yur safety gear with yu. 3. Registratin Yu will be using yur team number t check in. Cme prepared knwing what yur team number is t expedite the prcess a. Step 1: Check In/Safety Gear Check Each van will need t shw that they have 2 Flashlights/Headlamps (4 ttal per team), 6 Reflective Vests (12 ttal per team), 2 LED Tail Lights (4 ttal per team). Jackets and shirts with reflective piping are nt reflective enugh. If teams d nt have these items at the start line they will nt be allwed t start the race. b. Step 2: Safety Briefing All members n yur team are required t attend a 10 minute Safety Briefing Vide. c. Step 3: Flag Check ut Each Van will check ut 2 flags. (mre inf in the safety sectin) d. Step 4 Gdie Bag Each Van will receive 6 race numbers, and 1 Gdie Bag e. Step 5: T-Shirts- Distributed by individual participant, by Van, r t the Team Captain. RACE DAY CHECK IN 1. Van 1 (runners 1-6) and Van 2 will Check In near the starting line at the Big Hrn Cnference Rm. Ultra teams will als check in at the Start Line regardless if they are using 1 van r 2. Check in Prcess will be the same as listed abve. 2. Teams shuld plan n arriving t the Start Line 1 hur prir t yur scheduled start time OR Exchange 6, 1 hur prir t when yu expect runner 6 t arrive at exchange 6. 3. T-shirts distributed at Exchange 6. SAFETY Our safety rules are cntinually updated in rder t minimize the inherent risks assciated with an vernight relay. Here are the highlights: 1. Each f the 36 legs have been designated ne f three ways: Supprt, Partial N Van Supprt r N Van Supprt/N Pulling Over. On supprt legs, teams are allwed t supprt their runner alng the curse. a. Partial N Van Supprt: If a leg is designated as Partial N Van Supprt the same "N Van Supprt" rules will apply nly t certain sectins f the leg. These sectins will be marked n the leg maps fund nline and within the Ragnar App. b. "N Van Supprt/N Pulling Over: Vans are NOT allwed t pull ver and supprt their runners frm ANY lcatin alng these legs. Vans are als NOT allwed t stp anywhere alng these legs and must prceed directly t the next exchange t await their runner. 2. NO VAN SUPPORT/NO PULLING OVER legs: 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 14, 15, 16, 34, 36 Partial N Van Supprt legs: All NO VAN SUPPORT legs that are ver 4 miles will have at least 1 water statin between exchanges. Please nte that CO has a LOT f trails which may make it difficult t supprt yur runner even n a Full Supprt leg, please carry water. 3. Any team member, wh is nt currently the runner, must carry an range reflective flag when crssing any street, day r night. Van 1 will check ut 2 flags at the Start Line; Van 2 will check ut 3

their 2 flags at Exchange 6. Flags must be returned at the finish line, r a $15 charge per flag will be charged t the Team Captain. Fr mre infrmatin n rad crssing safety, refer t the Race Bible. 4. NIGHT TIME HOURS 7:00 PM -6:45 AM. 5. There will be race fficials mnitring all race rules alng the curse. Teams will be bserved thrughut the race t make sure they are fllwing the rules. Teams will be ntified by text message when a rule vilatin has ccurred. If a team receives 3 vilatins they will be disqualified. Race fficials may als disqualify teams n the spt withut prir warning fr serius rule vilatins. 6. N sleeping in parking lts. Yu must sleep n the grass, in designated sleeping areas, r in yur vehicle at exchanges. Sleeping in parking lts will result in a vilatin fr yur team. 7. If yu see a team cheating r vilating any rules yu may reprt teams by sending a text message t the Ragnar Safety Htline, 661-RAGNAR1 (661-724-6271). Instructins regarding this prcess will be cvered in the safety briefing n race day. a. IT IS CRUCIAL YOU ENTER THE CORRECT PHONE NUMBER TO RECEIVE RACE COMMAND TEXTS ALONG THE COURSE TEST THIS ON FRIDAY TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE GETTING THEM 8. Nte On Race Number: All runners must have their team number pinned t the frnt f their shirt r shrts, n the uter mst layer f clthing. When yu are running at night we suggest that yu pin yur team number t yur reflective vest in a way that desn t cver reflective material. If yu put a sweatshirt r jacket n in the clder hurs, make sure t pin the number t the sweatshirt r jacket. The vlunteers must be able t identify the runner as they arrive at exchange pints. WEATHER HEAT: PRE-HYDRATE, HYDRATE, RE-HYDRATE - Each van shuld carry a cler fr water and/r sprts drinks. Runners shuld pre-hydrate befre each f their legs, hydrate while running, and re-hydrate after each f their legs. Supplement water with electrlytes such as Nuun, saltsticks, etc. Prper hydratin is btained when the runner has clear (light lemnade clred) and cpius urine. But please, use the prtable tilets. OBSERVE YOUR RUNNER Clsely mnitr the cnditin f yur runners befre, during, and after each leg. If the heat index is abve 90, heat cramps and heat exhaustin are pssible. Abve a heat index f 105, heat exhaustin is likely and heat strke is prbable with cntinued activity. SUNSCREEN Lathering up is cl. Especially if yu are wearing a Speed. INCLEMENT WEATHER: Race Cmmand mnitrs weather cnditins cntinuusly thrughut the race and shuld there be adverse weather such as lighting r flding n the curse at any time, Ragnar will enfrce a weather hld. We will have staff n the curse giving instructin and make sure everyne is clear n prcedure, but s that yu are aware f the basics: If a hld is necessary n part f ur curse, as teams arrive at the exchange befre the hld area they will be given a hld card which tells them hw many hurs t hld and which exchange t restart at. Stay safe and ff curse and skip ne leg fr every ne hur f hld. When it is yur time t restart (time will be listed n yur hld card) yu will drive t the exchange and send that runner ff. Be sure t turn in yur hld card t the vlunteers at that exchange s that we can make the necessary timing adjustments. Runners wh missed a chance t run can duble up and run any ther later leg. FIRST AID 4

There will be first aid statins at all the majr exchanges (6, 12, 18, 24, 30) and at the finish line. First aid persnnel will be able t respnd t minr injuries and heat exhaustin. If yur heat exhaustin is severe enugh t require an IV yu will be transprted t the nearest hspital t receive it and will nt be allwed t run yur remaining legs. In the event f a majr medical emergency (i.e. any life threatening cnditin r injury that requires immediate medical attentin) call 911. Once yu have called 911, please ntify Race Cmmand via text (661- RAGNAR1) as sn as pssible s that we can prvide yu with assistance. EMERGENCY MEDICAL FACILITIES There will be a list f the clsest ER t each majr exchange listed in the Ragnar App. Shuld yu need ne f them, refer t that list. Exchange 1 is als at Summit Cunty Medical Center OTHER EMERGENCIES Shuld there be any ther type f serius emergency, please call 911 first and then text Race Cmmand (661-RAGNAR1). RUNNING ON THE COURSE 1. All runners must run n the left side f the rad (int traffic) unless directed therwise. Always run n the side walk if it is an ptin. 2. Fllw the Signs. There will be signs at intersectin where yu will be changing directin (and in cnfusing sectins f the curse). Ragnar turn signs are Tuch and G. This means that runners shuld nt turn until they are clse enugh t bear hug the sign. By fllwing the Tuch and G methd yu will always be n the crrect side f the rad. If yu turn t early yu may be n the wrng side f the rad and may miss the next sign. 3. Runners must run in the same sequence fr each segment f the race. Fr example, if a runner runs leg 3 he/she must als run leg 15 and leg 27. In the event f an injury any f the 11 remaining runners can replace the injured runner. Yu are nt allwed t bring in a 13th member f the team t run the remaining legs. If yu are a mixed team and a wman is injured, at least 18 f the legs must be run by wmen. 4. Vehicles are nt allwed t fllw racers t illuminate the rad fr them, r t pace them. Bike pacers are nt allwed n this curse. Ft pacers during night time hurs must als wear the required safety gear alng with runner. a. We will have Bike SWAT in Glenwd Canyn with radis shuld yu need assistance. They will have reflective vests n; they are a by scut trp and there t help yu if yu have any questins r need help. b. Vehicles must bey all traffic laws in the cmmunities we drive and run thrugh; we have law enfrcement all alng the curses that reprt sudden stps, u-turns, n blinkers r lights etc Knw that yu will get a ticket if yu vilate a traffic law during the race 5. Be Respectful. We depend n the cperatin f lcal cmmunities and ask that yu be respectful and help us maintain a gd relatinship. Any runners wh vilate this rule (i.e., littering, defecating, and hnking in residential areas at night) will be disqualified and will nt be invited back. 6. Lst Runner Prtcl. If yu believe yur runner is lst text Race Cmmand yur team number, leg number, and area yu believe yur runner ran ff curse. Leave yur next runner and a teammate with a cell phne at the exchange and send the van ut t lk fr the runner. If yu have nt fund yur runner after 20 mins text Race Cmmand and Ragnar will send ut staff t assist. 7. Supprting Yur Runner. We encurage each team t spend time ut n the curse supprting their runner. When supprting yur runner please park ff the side f the rad in a safe and legal 5

parking area. D nt park n private prperty. Any teams driving at unsafe speeds, slw r fast, will be given a penalty. Always use yur crssing flags when crssing the rad t give supprt. EXCHANGE PROTOCOL 1. Only ne vehicle per team is allwed t park at each minr exchange pint. Vehicle 1 is allwed at exchange pints 1-6; Vehicle 2 is allwed at exchange pints 6-12 etc. Bth vehicles are allwed at every Majr Exchanges (6, 12, 18, 24 and 30). When yu cme t an exchange, please lk fr directin frm vlunteers, park in designated parking area please parking within the lines and pull as far frward as pssible. If the parking spts d nt have lines, please park as efficiently as pssible. 4. N vehicles lnger than 20'. Mtr hmes, pulled trailers, buses r lims are nt allwed n the curse by any team r team supprt (15 Passenger Vans are allwed). We understand and encurage the idea f tagging ther vans that yu see alng the curse. We just ask that yu d s in a way that will nt harm anther vehicle. Tagging is frbidden when it des damage t the paint, wrap n the vehicle, r vehicle itself. Teams fund tagging vehicles in a harmful way may be charged fr damages. Instead we encurage yu t: Make awesme team magnets and stick them n cars when yu see them in the parking lts r alng the curse. Use washable paint markers and mark n vehicle windws nly. Make sure it is nt ffensive! Have decals made that are reusable. Yu can stick them n a surface and they can be peeled ff withut remving any paint etc. Make team gear (hats, shirts, cups, water bttles, etc.), have extras, and share the wealth! A: 5:00 a.m. is the first available start time; last start time is at 12:30 p.m. Q: Can I leave my persnal vehicle at Start r Exchange 6 n Friday and then cme back t pick it up later in the weekend? A: N. Yu cannt leave yur persnal vehicle at any f the majr r minr exchanges t be picked up at a later time. We suggest riding t Start/Exchange 6 in yur team vehicle. Or, if yu must drive yur persnal vehicle t meet yur team, find a public parking lt where yu are sure yur vehicle will nt be ticketed r twed. Q: Why d the legs and curse maps change? A: Frm year t year, we need t adjust things t accmmdate additinal teams. In additin, with permitting thrugh sme f the different cities, we rely n the lcal twns t accmmdate the race; it is a give and take relatinship. With that, we ask teams t respect residents at night and avid hnking their hrns, playing lud music, r making t much nise near huses.. Q: What is the van parking like at the majr exchanges, can friends and family park and cme hang ut? A: N, We really d nt have extra parking. The best place fr them is at the Finish line. Q: Hw early d we need t be at the start line befre ur start times? A: It is best t usually get there abut ne hur befre yur assigned start time s yu have enugh time t d the safety briefing. Q: Hw many teams are starting at each time? A: Generally, arund 10-20 teams leave at each available start time. We pst start times nline. Q: Hw many race bibs des each team receive? A: Regular teams receive 12 bibs and Ultra teams receive 6 bibs there shuld be ne fr each runner. Q: Can a team use just ne vehicle? Q: What d the runners hand ff with? A: Teams will receive slap bracelets that they will pass frm runner t runner at each exchange. Q: What if we lse the slap bracelet? A: If yu lse the slap bracelet, yu can simply tuch/slap/clap hands in the exchange chute and cntinue. Just let Race Cmmand knw yu are running withut ne. Q: Hw many mile markers d yu have? Hw d yu mark the curse? A: We place ne mile t g signs befre almst every exchange. We d everything we can t make them accurate, but they might vary by a tenth f a mile in sme cases. Our curse directinal signs are 12 x 42 blue reflective vertical panels. At night, we place red LED lights n each sign s that runners knw they are appraching a curse marker. Q: What happens if a sign gets taken? A: We have curse managers and staff patrlling the curse thrughut the race wh maintain the signs and replace any that may be stlen, kncked ver, turned, etc. Still, the best plan is t make sure yur runners knw their legs this is the best way t avid getting lst. 8

Q: Where and when d we take the team phts? A: We take team phts at the finish line after the runners receive their medals, and we will pst after the race. Q: Will there be beer at the finish? A: Yes, Slice Pizzeria will be prviding each runner a free beer r beverage. Cme ready t party! Q: D all 12 runners have t be at the start line? A: N, nly yur first van needs t be at the start. A: N, yu are nt required t submit a rster. Yu can change the rder yur runners run in up until yu start the race. Once yu start, runners are t stay in sequential rder. Q: What is the rule regarding the range flags? A: The large range flags are checked ut at the Start Line and Exchange 6. They are t be used when any team member, nt running at the time, crsses a rad. Flags shuld be used day r night. Runners are nt expected t run with the range flags. Q: What if we lse receptin r there is bad receptin n the curse and we can t access the Ragnar App? A: Frtunately ur app and all f the infrmatin can be pre-laded. There will be Lcal Traffic Only signs here, but yu are lcal traffic in this case. It is actually clsed further n, s the turn back east t get n I-70 is mandatry. Leg 24 des nt affect runner path; Grand Ave Bridge is being re-dne in Glenwd Springs. The best way t get t Exchange 24 frm Exchange 23 is t fllw I-70 west bund t the Midland Ave Exit (Exit 114). Take a left arund the rundabut heading Suth n Midland Ave. Head under the Freeway underpass and straight thrugh the next rund abut then turn Left n Devereux Rd. Drive rughly a mile and the Exchange 24 will be n yur left (Tw Rivers Park) Obey all traffic laws including blinkers, nly legal U-turns, driving with yur lights n, etc Plice have expressed cncerns with this curse and will ticket yu fr nt beying all traffic laws 10
