There are many challenges before us as we end 2017 and start 2018. Many of our issues are not unique for a country club but as with other aspects of life it is the timing. The club has completed the 3 rd quarter for 2017. As announced in the general membership meeting there will not be a BDC. This makes the 19 th straight quarter the club has either met or exceeded budget. More will come to you in a separate announcement on the financials. The back 9 bathroom is complete. Many of our members contributed time and resources on this project. Ruth Ann Trice, David Parks, Sandy Carpenter, and Lynn Dickey spearheaded the project and pretty much made this happen with the MGA and MWGA. Congratulations to Terry Trice, Lane Stafford and Eddie Craven for their election to the BOD. Their 3 year term will start on January 1, 2018. Likewise many thanks to Stuart Harris and Rick Torres for their service to the BOD as their terms will expire on January 1, 2018. As we all know MCC is a private club. The BOD is asking everyone to refrain from bringing alcoholic beverages into the clubhouse that is not purchased from the club. We do and will continue to charge a cork fee for wine but all other beverages needs to be purchased from the club in accordance with our rules. Wishing everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving. Page 3 Maumelle Country Club November 2017 T U R F TALK With the golfing season now winding down, our department will be focusing on items not necessarily neglected but rather need attention. So much effort is spent on our mowing during the growing season, we sometimes simply do not have enough hours during the day to compete other maintenance tasks. Example, tree trimming and tree removal. There are several trees that are dead and need to be removed due to safety hazard. Cart path backfill, with the new overlay, several area in the paths the grade was increased. As we cannot back fill the entire run of paths, we certainly are addressing the worst areas to improve transition from cart path to fairways and roughs. This month we applied a pre-emergence on the greens to prevent annual bluegrass (poa annua) from germinating. We will also treat the surrounds and collars. Once the fairways and roughs go dormant, any winter weeds will be controlled with a post emerge herbicide, a more costly effect. It s hard to believe, come December, it will have been my first full year here at the club. Man how time flies when your having fun. I want to thank you all for all your support this year. I could not have done it without all of you, and especially my crew, thank you. I am really proud of our turf grass team and look forward to an even better year. See you on the course. Lance Norwood G/C Superintendent REMINDER The Club will be closed on Thursday, November 23rd. Reminder! Standard Time begins on Sunday, November 5 th.
