MESSAGE FROM THE COMMANDING OFFICER, DEVONSHIRE AREA Greetings all, With the Holiday Season upon us, we see more people driving on the roads completing errands, shopping, and celebrating. As a result, we see more accidents and road rage incidents that could be prevented. I would like to remind our Devonshire Community of the following safety tips: Slow down! Do not drink and drive! If you are caught driving while intoxicated, you could face jail time and steep court fines, not to mention damage to your driving record. Keep your cool; don t get engaged. Be mindful of other people on the road or the passengers you may be carrying. Please plan for a sober designated driver, taxi, or ride share service. September and October were very busy months for Devonshire Area. In September, we had our 2 nd Annual Devonshire SOLID Golf Tournament in Porter Ranch. It was a fantastic success coordinated by Officers Don Majors, Lupe Mijares and our Devonshire SOLID members. In October, Devonshire had its 1 st Annual Cigar Night at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall. Thanks to all who attended and helped make this a successful event. Thank you Sgt. Larry Bavaro for the great cigar choices. Councilman Mitch Englander and staff attended and met with members of the Department and Community. In addition, there were several other events that had a fantastic showing. o Valley Disaster Faire at Northridge Fashion Center o Granada Hills Street Faire o Park Parthenia s Health Safety Faire o The Clergy Breakfast at Church of the Living World o SOLID s All You Can Eat Pasta Dinner at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. As you read the highlights by our Senior Lead Officers, please share their messages with your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and clergy members. The partnership between the Community and Devonshire Area Police is paramount for continued success in crime reduction. I look forward to working with all of you and protecting the Community we serve. For more details, or if you are interested in a starting a Neighborhood Watch Program, or have questions about crime prevention tips/programs, contact your Senior Lead Officer at (818) 832-0283 and monitor us on our Devonshire Social Media Sites: Like us on Facebook at: LAPD Devonshire Community Police Station Follow us on Twitter: @LAPDDevonshire Join us on Nixle for emergency information: www.nixle.com BRYAN D. BASIC CAR HIGHLIGHTS SLO Supervisor, Sgt. II Jose Torres 32324@lapd.online, Direct No.: (818) 832-0283 or Main No.: (818) 832-0998 BASIC CAR AREA 17A23 Senior Lead Officer Daniel Del Valle, Direct No.: (818) 832-0875 27677@lapd.online and Twitter: @SLO17A23 CRIME TRENDS AND LOCATIONS: The crime activity of concern for Basic Car 17A23 this past month was Robbery. The category of Robbery has increased 75% from last year. As of recently, we have 37 Robberies (2017 YTD) compared to 21 (2016 YTD). Part of the reason for the increase is the rise of Plain Thefts (shoplift) were suspects struggled/took property by force, which turned the crime from a theft to an Estes Robbery. Please let others know of the crime activity that is occurring in the area and report suspicious activity. NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH EVENTS: 17A23 s Basic Car Neighborhood Watch meeting for November and December is cancelled for the holidays. I wish everyone a pleasant and safe holiday season. The next Basic Car 17A23 Neighborhood Watch Meeting is Thursday, January 25, 2018. Our meetings are held every 4 th Thursday of the month, located at 9901 Mason Avenue, the Saint John Eudes Church at 7:00 P.M. CRIME PREVENTION TIPS AND INFORMATION: The holiday season is here and I encourage everyone to please be aware of their surroundings when shopping or visiting the ATM machines. This is the time of the year when criminals prey upon unsuspecting citizens. Criminals look for victims that are not paying attention to others and avoid eye contact. I would suggest that if you would need to visit an ATM, please do so during daylight hours, and visit one that has good foot traffic. If it is late use an ATM inside a somewhat busy supermarket, or go to your nearest police station. The LAPD police stations never close and ATM machines are always located near the front desk. Hope everyone has a GREAT THANKSGIVING!! BASIC CAR AREA 17A35 Senior Lead Officer Dario Del Core, Cell No.: (818) 634-0577 27286@lapd.online and Twitter: @SLO17A35 CRIME TRENDS AND LOCATIONS: Monitor the area from Chatsworth Street to Brasilia Street, and from Wilbur Avenue to Lindley Avenue for a recent pattern of Residential Burglary activity. The most recent 4-week map shows about a dozen hits with activity consistent with knock-knock burglaries. Most of these are still occurring during the traditional Monday- Friday daytime hours, but also, there were a couple of incidents that happened later into the evening and sometimes even on weekends. As in most cases the suspects will first door knock the home to ensure no one is inside. Money, jewelry, firearms and electronics continue to be the most common items taken

Please continue to be vigilant to foot traffic and door-to-door solicitation activity, and remind your neighbors to take the time to assess activity on the block as they come and go from the home. Suspicious activity which is deemed to be likely criminal in nature should be reported to LAPD dispatch. NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH EVENTS: There will be no Basic Car Neighborhood Watch meeting this month; however, we will have an All Basic Car Potluck on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at 6:30P.M., located at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Banquet Hall, 17037 Plummer Street in Northridge. This event will be open to neighborhood watch participants of all Basic Car Areas in Devonshire Division (look for an imminent email which will be sent out on the E-Policing system). Please bring your favorite drink to share at the meeting. CRIME PREVENTION TIPS AND INFORMATION: Road Rage: A driver may cut you off and nearly cause an accident, but avoid taking matters into your own hands. Road rage can result in a six-month suspension of your driver s license (first offense) and an order to complete a road rage course, and could even land you in jail. Or you could be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, and face up to four years in prison and $ 10,000 fine. (VC 13210; PC 245(a)) Avoid engaging other drivers. Put as much distance between you and the other driver as possible and avoid making eye contact. Never pull off the roadway to confront another driver. Stay calm and give yourself ample time to get to where you are going. BASIC CAR AREA 17A49 Senior Lead Officer Janine Angeles, Direct No.: (818) 832-0754 30392@lapd.online and Twitter: @SLO17A49 CRIME TRENDS AND LOCATIONS: The following crime statistics are from January 1, 2017 to October 14, 2017. These numbers reflect the number of crimes which occurred in Basic Car 17A49 only. There were (122) Grand Theft Autos, (26) Robberies, (142) Thefts, (163) Burglaries, (42) Aggravated Assaults and (292) Burglary/Theft from Motor Vehicles. The crime in our basic car area is up 14.6% compared to last year! Please be sure to lock your vehicles and hide all your valuables! NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH EVENTS: 17A49 s Basic Car Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 6:30 P.M., located at The St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Banquet Hall, 17037 Plummer Street in Northridge. This is a combined Basic Car Meeting! Please bring your favorite Pot Luck dish! CRIME PREVENTION TIPS AND INFORMATION: Burglaries are on the rise! We are up 39% from last year with 163 burglaries year-to-date. Suspects are knocking on victim s front door. If no one answers, they go to the rear of the residents and either smash or force the rear door or sliding glass window. If someone knocks on your door, do not open it. Instead, in a strong voice tell them, No thanks. Monitor what they do after that. If they appear to be looking around, call 9-1-1. Please pay attention to cars and people in your neighborhood. If you see a suspicious vehicle, write the license plate down (without placing yourself in danger). If you see anyone peering in windows or cars, call 9-1-1. This is a crime in progress.

BASIC CAR AREA 17A67 Officer George Koval, Direct No.: (818) 832-0827 40639@lapd.online and Twitter: @SLO17A67 CRIME TRENDS AND LOCATIONS: We have unfortunately seen a significant increase in our vehicle related crimes. Vehicles being broken into has increased significantly. Most of the crimes are occurring on Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during the mid-afternoon hours and into the early morning hours. Unfortunately, some of these crimes could have been prevented. Please do not leave your vehicle open or unlocked. Remember to Lock it, hide it, and Keep it! NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH EVENTS: The next basic car meeting for 17A67 will be held on Thursday, November 9 th, 2017 at 6:30 P.M., located at The Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Banquet Hall, 17037 Plummer Street in Northridge. This meeting will include the entire Devonshire Area basic car attendees and this will be a Pot Luck dinner event. Please bring your favorite dish and join all your neighbors to celebrate and an evening with your Devonshire Area Police Officers. CRIME PREVENTION INFORMATION AND TIPS: Here are some ways you can help us reduce crime this summer: Start a Neighborhood Watch group Make sure that the youth in the neighborhood have positive ways to spend their spare time through our PALS or CADET programs Build a partnership with police, seek volunteer opportunities Clean up the neighborhood! Call 311 for any trash pick-up needs Register for e-policing and/or CrimeMapping.com to obtain current crime trends and updates. BASIC CAR AREA 17A81 Senior Lead Officer John Parker, Direct No.: (818) 832-0773 36560@lapd.online and Twitter: @SLO17A81 CRIME TRENDS AND LOCATIONS: The crime trends for Total Part-I crime from January 1, 2017 through October 21, 2017 are as follows: (0) Homicides, (7) Rapes, (71) Robberies, (66) Aggravated Assaults, (151) Burglaries, (109) Grand Theft Autos, (270) Burglary Theft from Vehicles, and (448) Thefts. Please bring your favorite dish and join all your neighbors to celebrate and an evening with your Devonshire Area Police Officers. CRIME PREVENTION INFORMATION AND TIPS: Our fall season is here, although our hot weather may say otherwise. With the fall season, we begin much our holiday shopping and driving around to complete errands. Please be mindful of the following: Be aware of your surrounding and slow down while driving; Pre-plan your day to take care of tasks with a purpose; Do not leave property visible in your vehicle; Do not leave cell phones on counters, in restrooms, or eating tables yes, we get these reports; Remember where you parked take a picture of the parking level to help you locate your vehicle if lost; Do not leave purses in shopping carts unattended; and Request signature for packages to help reduce package theft BASIC CAR AREA 17A95 Senior Lead Officer Efren Corral, Direct No.: (818) 832-0746 35472@lapd.online and Twitter: @SLO17A95 CRIME TRENDS AND LOCATIONS: During the month of October, we had a rise in all auto related crimes. These auto thefts included older model Hondas, and Toyotas. If you own a vehicle such as these please use a steering wheel locking mechanism. Please protect your property! Auto related crimes can be easily avoided, please remember Lock it, Hide it, Keep it. NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH EVENTS: The next basic car meeting for 17A95 will be held on Thursday, November 9 th, 2017 at 6:30 P.M., located at The Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Banquet Hall, 17037 Plummer Street in Northridge. This meeting will include the entire Devonshire Area basic car attendees and this will be a Pot Luck dinner event. Please bring your favorite dish and join all your neighbors to celebrate and an evening with your Devonshire Area Police Officers. CRIME PREVENTION INFORMATION AND TIPS: It is important to remain vigilant during the upcoming Holiday season. Be aware of solicitors that go door to door offering their services. While some solicitors are legitimate, there are those who use this technique to case homes for possible future break-ins. There are also those who pose as city workers to commit distraction burglaries. Make sure you answer the door or talk through the door making your presence known. Do not let unknown people inside your house and always have your phone handy to call police if need be. You can call our non-emergency number for suspicious people in your neighborhood. 1(877) ASK- LAPD, or dial 1-877-275-5273.
