THANK YOU! Goal Achieved! Thank you for making the Fun Run a smashing success! Way to go, Whittier Wildcats! We had a very successful Fun Run this year, having far surpassed our goal of $14,000. Together we raised $16,177+ - - - exceeding the goal by more than 19%! WOW! These funds support programs like Homework Helpers, ACES, ArtStart and Opera for the Young; fund field trip busses; provide library support and fund community events like all-school picnics. Really outstanding! Super extra big thanks to the volunteers who pulled together and donated their time especially since we had to reschedule TWICE due to rain! Wildcat high fives to Mary Furman, Kirsten Jackson, Sofia Villafuerte, Shayla Bell, Kristen Alfonsi, Terri McConville, Stephanie Thomas and Elizabeth Carrier. Because we reached our all-school goal, the kids will get to have a dance party on the blacktop on a date to come soon. Some interesting stats: -12 our of 18 classrooms met their classroom goal, earning their class some funds toward recess play things -Team Druckmiller and Team Weiss were the top two classrooms, bringing in 230% and 203% of their class goals, respectively - that's more than double! -More than $5500 of the donations came from outside Oak Park - thanks for asking friends and family! -71% of the funds raised were provided through the online Get Movin tool -16 kids raised more than $200 apiece Special thanks to the local businesses that donated items for the Fun Run - Sugar Beet Co-Op and Gepetto's Toy Box. Great job, everyone! TOGETHER WE RAISED $16,177!! BY THE NUMBERS 422 Students and their families raised $16,177 12 of 18 classrooms met their classroom goals 34% of funds came from outside Oak Park Want more info on where PTO dollars go? Whittier School s 73 rd Annual Pumpkin Festival! October 26 th and 27 th 2017 The Whittier Pumpkin Festival is a longtime tradition at Whittier School. Dr. Carl Albertson, a former Whittier principal, who loved Halloween, started it many years ago. This year we celebrate the 73 rd Annual Pumpkin Festival! The Pumpkin Festival is a celebration of real (not plastic) pumpkin carving and decorating. Each year, individual children and families are invited to enter a pumpkin in this exciting competition. The pumpkins can be carved, decorated, dressed, painted, etc. Be creative! The Pumpkin Festival committee will register the pumpkins before school on the 26 th and 27 th in the front lobby. The pumpkins will be entered under one of four categories and then judged by Whittier staff on the 27 th. All participants will receive a ribbon and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each category will receive a trophy. THE PUMPKINS NEED TO BE PICKED UP AFTER SCHOOL ON THE 27 th. Any pumpkins not picked up will be disposed of at 6:00pm on the 27 th. There will be NO pumpkins on display on Halloween! We hope that many Whittier families will join in to make this year s Pumpkin Festival another success in a long-standing tradition! Please contact Heidi Gawne (hgawne@op97.org) or Laurie Conley (lconley@op97.org) if you have any questions!

Dear Parents and Guardians of Whittier Students, This year our students have the opportunity to Trick or Treat for UNICEF. When they Trick or Treat for UNICEF, our kids help protect children all over the world from harm and help to give them the best possible start in life. Small donations add up to big changes in children s lives. The annual tradition of Kids Helping Kids has raised more than $170 million since 1950. It s helped give countless children around the world clean water, nutrition, medicine, immunizations and education. Participating in this event is simple, but optional, and it would require adult supervision. If your child participates, he/she can collect money in the official box in different ways: Go to neighbors homes before Halloween with the official collection box and ask for donations. Trick or treat with the box (and candy bag, of course) on Halloween and politely ask for donations. On Halloween tell neighbors that you will be back in the next day or so with your UNICEF box. No donation or amount in a collection box is too small and we appreciate any and all participation in this event. In order for your child to receive a box, the permission slip below must be returned to school between this Thurs, Oct. 26 and Tues., Oct. 31. Once the money is collected, the box must be returned to school by Thurs., Nov. 2. We look forward to this being a fun and rewarding project. Thanks for your support! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Whittier s students are going to Trick or Treat for UNICEF!
