Welcome to Prairie Life Fitness Prairie Life Fitness is dedicated to offering quality programs to meet the fitness and recreational needs of you and your family. This program guide lists the classes and programs for our Summer session which runs from June 1 thru August 31, 2008. CLASS REGISTRATION PRE-REGISTRATION: Pre-Registration is from May 19-23, 2008. Registrations are processed on a first come, first-served basis. Please be sure to complete your registration form with ALL the information requested. You must include: Name, member number of participant, current phone number, and signature on the sign-up sheet form at the Front Desk. GENERAL REGISTRATION: General registration for Summer classes will begin on Monday, May 26th and continues throughout the 2008 Summer session. Please sign-up in the books located at the Front Desk. General registration is open enrollment. Registration is not required for classes included in your membership. If you have any questions please see Jennifer Tucker. REGISTRATION STATUS: During registration, you will hear from us only if we are unable to place you in the class or program you selected. If you do not hear from us by Monday, June 2nd, PLEASE PLAN ON ATTENDING. 2

NURSERY NEWS These services are available for use when parents/guardians are on the premises. YOUTH CENTER/NURSERY: Our nursery is available for children 6 weeks to 12 years of age. Parents must check their child in to the Youth Center. A child or a child s sibling cannot admit a child to the Youth Center. Youth Center/Nursery hours: Monday-Friday Saturday Sunday 8:00 am-8:00 pm 8:00 am-6:00 pm 10:00 am-5:00 pm Infants: Nursery space for infants (6 weeks to 12 months) is limited. Reservations are required and may be made 2 days in advance. Only one reservation per child may be in effect at any given time. A second reservation cannot be made until the first reservation has been used. Youth Programs Motto: It is the Youth Programming department s goal to provide exceptional quality youth programming and care in a compassionate, educational, and safe environment. As youth care providers we strive to provide the highest level of care possible to the children and our members. We will go the extra mile to ensure that all children in our care are in a clean, safe, positive, supportive and caring environment! Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian over the age of 18! 3

NURSERY NEWS NURSERY/YOUTH CENTER FEES: PARENT IS A MEMBER For Children in Paid Membership: CHILD MEMBERS: FREE FOR 2 HOURS MAX PER DAY, PER CHILD NON MEMBERS CAN ALSO PAY A $4.00 NURSERY FEE FOR THE 2 HOURS. THERE IS A 2 HOUR MAX PER DAY, PER CHILD. Please be aware of the following: 1. We do not provide snacks for children in the nursery. Snacks may be brought from home and children may sit either in the highchair or the snack area to eat them. In order not to spread illness, and due to the fact that the youth center staff is not always aware of children s allergies, there will be no sharing of snacks between children. 2. Due to allergies, No peanut products are allowed in the Youth Center! We only allow snacks as outside food: no fast foods or outside meals are allowed. 3.If coats or bags are brought, we ask that parents take these items and lock them in a locker. 4.We do suggest that you leave diapers and wipes for your child if applicable. 5.Please label your child s belongings with his or her first and last name and member number. 4

CHILDREN S PROGRAMS: HINTS FOR PARENTS Children attending classes must be able to listen and take direction from his/her instructor. This will ensure a fun and safe environment for all participants. Please adhere to the age limits for classes when registering. The age limits are set to ensure that instructors can organize and plan age appropriate activities. As a courtesy to all participants in the class, please arrive promptly to class. Please take young children to the restroom and/or to get drinks prior to the start of class. This will ensure that teachers can stay with the class at all times. Parents are encouraged to observe classes in the pool and gym from the Lobby Area. You are encouraged to talk with the instructors before and after class. Some classes have parent participation or student demonstrations on the last class of the session. Please ask your instructor if this applies to your child s class. In consideration of others, please cancel your child from class if your child will not be a regular participant in that class. Due to the popularity of certain classes, we may have other members on a waiting list for the class. 5

BIRTHDAY PARTIES (Available to both members & non-members) We can help make your child s next birthday party the best ever! At Prairie Life Fitness. Our 2 hour parties consist of 45 minutes in the gym playing hard, 30 minutes for eating cake and opening presents, and 45 minutes in the pool. Contact Jennifer Tucker at 854-8998 for further information and to make your reservations. Ask about our all gym or all swim birthday parties that are also available! Up to 14 children (at least 2 adults for supervision) 2 hour party with party attendants Party decorations Plates, napkins, cups, utensils, and tablecloths Use of swimming pool and gym Set up and take down of your party PLF Members: $135.00 Non-Members: $175.00 A fee of $8.00 for each child over 14 children will be charged. This open gym will include monitored free play for your child. 3-12yrs June 1 August 31 4:00pm-7:00pm Mon.- Tiny Tots: A fun starter gymnastics class to teach the basic tumbling skills Balance and flexibility will be introduced. 2-3yrs June 1 August 31 9:30-10:00am Friday Mini Tumblers: Children will learn the basic tumbling coordination and balance skills in addition to working on flexibility, strength, and rhythm activities. Children will also be introduced to the balance beam. 4-6yrs June 1 August 31 10:00-10:30am Fri- Kidersize: This class is held in the gym with one of our highly skilled instructors who will lead the kids through fun aerobic activities geared towards increasing the participants heart rate while providing energetic and safe moves. 4-10yrs June 1 August 31 5:30-6:15pm Tuesday 14

A Fitness Center Employee will help design a training program for your child and supervise the training on the cardio equipment. 10, 30 minute sessions are $100.00 Ages 13 years and under. PRESCHOOL AQUATICS (Questions? Contact Lesley Brainard) PARENTS PLEASE NOTE: All Aquatic classes have MAXIMUM limits on the number of students in each class. We encourage parents to register as early as possible, as the classes will fill quickly. PLF AQUATIC MISSION To provide quality swim instruction for all ages and abilities, in a fun and safe facility, so water activities will be enjoyed by the entire family. Welcome to PLF Swim Lessons: Each Session consists of 8-25 minute lessons. Please consider the following guidelines to consider if you want your child to learn new skills and improve at the quickest rate: 1. Please have your child to the pool on time and prepared to swim. 2. Check your child in w/ the instructor and then you are free to leave. 3. No floatation swimsuits or other floatation devices are necessary. 4. Goggles are highly recommended. 5. Long hair should be pulled back or in a swim cap. 6. Swim diapers must be worn if not potty trained. 7. Get in the water and play w/ your child between lessons! 8. Encourage and praise your child. 9. Try to come to every lesson. 10. Sign up for the next session! On page 20 there is a list of suggested ages, prerequisite classes and important skills that may be helpful in placing your child in the appropriate swim level. Suggested ages are provided for each level, however placement may be more accurately determined by skill level. A fun swim meet at the end of each session to show off your improvement! Child will need to know Freestyle and Backstroke. Dates Time Day June2-Aug 2 9am-10am Mon/Wed/Fri Private Lessons: Private, group and stroke technique lessons are also available from qualified instructors. ISR: Infant Swimming Resource: Aquatic Safety and Self-Rescue for ages 6 months-6 years. What your child will learn: A baby from 6 mos- 12mos will learn how to hold their breath underwater, roll onto their back and float unassisted until someone rescues them. A child over 1 year will learn how to hold their breath underwater, swim head down, roll onto their back to float, rest and breathe; then roll back over to resume swimming until they reach the side of the pool and crawl out. Level 1 Level 2 3-4yrs LEVEL 1 Wash my face, blow bubbles, head underwater, kick from side of pool, kick w/ noodle/kickboard, back float assisted, walk along edge of pool w/ hands, front float assisted, start front glide, safety-never swim alone, exit water without assistance. 4yrs and up LEVEL 2 Float front, back float, front glide, jump in holding instructor s hand, jump in, turn around and grab wall w/ assistance, kick w/ face in water, pick up toy on bottom of platform, climb down and up pole, bobbing 5 times, treading water, use of pfd, alternating arm action on front w/pfd, alternating arm action on back w/ pfd, and jump in w/ pfd. 20

Level SUGGESTED AGES SUGGESTED PREREQUISITE CLASSES IMPORTANT PREREQUISITE SKILLS Level 3 Level 4 Level 5 Swim Team Youth Certification: To utilize the fitness center, LEVEL children 3 ages 12-14 must complete Prairie Life Center s Youth Certification Program. Your child will be working with one of our certified Personal Trainers. The program is divided into 3 separate 30-45 minute sessions. This program is designed to install an understanding of exercise principles, and safe effective exercise technique. Depending on demand, participants may be in a group of up to four people. The cost is only $75.00. When the program is complete, the child yards, take will off receive a certificate of completion LEVEL 4 and will be allowed pfd. to use the fitness center with adult supervision. Questions?
