Office of Local Government. Inclusive Dates: 1973-1984 Scope & Content: The Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury s Office of Local Government created the county property assessment maps between 1973 and 1984. The maps were used to establish property lines for tax purposes. Today, they are frequently used to resolve property line disputes. A note for researchers, the map legends include: creeks, state lines, county lines, transmission line, roads, railroads, ridge lines, fences, cemeteries, churches, schools, wooded areas, ponds, parcel numbers, parcel hooks, district lines, sub lot numbers, parcel outlines, deed acreages, and calculated acreages. The Comptroller s Office is divided into divisions. The Division of Property Assessments and local assessors of property in daily operations and The Office of Local Government (OLG) use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to produce digital maps to assist local governments with districting.
