Open Water Diver Course with Nauti Diver

What is the PADI OPEN WATER (OW) course? The PADI Open Water diver course is an internationally recognised entry level diving program. It is designed to teach you the basic skills for recreational diving and certify you to dive to a maximum depth of 18m. The PADI Open Water Diver course is, by far, the world's most popular scuba certification course. Millions of people have started diving as certified PADI Open Water Divers. Learning to scuba dive requires both knowledge development (facts, principles, concepts) and dive skills (techniques, methods). What are the PADI Open Water Diver course prerequisites? Nautidiver offers the PADI Open Water Course to individuals over 18 years of age. To be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver through nautidiver, you need to be at least 18 years old*, fit for diving, and able to swim. *PADI minimum age is 10 years old. Nautidiver only provides training to persons at least 18 years old. What equipment do I need? You only need to have swim wear. All other equipment throughout the course is provided by nautidiver. HOW IT WORKS the steps to success STEP 1: PAPERWORK You complete the PADI paperwork general releases, the student record file and Medical Statement. The Medical statement has a number of questions which you must answer. If you have answered YES to any of the questions on the medical statement you will be required to get your GP to examine you and confirm that you are fit to dive. Once we ve registered you for the course nautidiver issues you an insurance number from DAN Europe (Diver Alert Network). DAN is one of the largest insurers of divers in the world. This insurance is valid for 90 days or until completion of your Open Water course.

STEP 2: THEORY The PADI Open Water Diver Course provides the knowledge development portion you need. You develop the remaining skills by actually diving with nautidiver in the pool and then the open water. There are two options to complete the theory sections. The theory section can be done as an elearning program or by using the PADI Crewpack. How does the elearning program work? Once you ve booked your course with Nautidiver we will issue you a PADI elearning activation code. After enrolling, PADI s elearning system presents you with interactive presentations that include videos, audio, graphics and reading. Short quizzes let you gauge your progress, and review and correct anything you might happen to miss. This lets you move through the program efficiently and at your own pace. At the end there is a short online exam based on the theory learned. How long do you have to complete the elearning course? The elearning course will be available for one year from the time of course registration. Though you must finish the online portion of the course within that time frame, you will have perpetual access to an online version of the PADI Open Water Diver manual. What is the minimum amount of time it will take to complete this elearning program? The PADI Open Water Diver Course (elearning) online will take approximately 12-15 hours to complete. The elearning section of the course must be completed prior to starting the confined water dives in the in the pool. How do you document that you've completed the elearning segment? Once you finish the elearning portion of the course, PADI will notify nautidiver and confirm that you have completed it and that you are ready for the practical phase of the program. At the end of the elearning program, you can print out your erecord and bring a copy of it with you to your nautidiver instructor. What is the difference between elearning and the Open Water Crewpack? The information contained in the manual and accompanying DVD is the exact same as the elearning program. The elearning program was developed by PADI in response to customer demand and has proven to be very successful and is now the preferred method of learning. The crew pack contains the PADI Open Water manual and DVD. The manual contains the knowledge reviews and then you take the final quiz and exam with your instructor. There is an extra cost for the manual and DVD of 50. What support do I have while I study the dive theory? Whether you use the elearning program or the combination of the hardcopy manual and DVD your instructor is there for support by phone and email. The course has been developed over many years and is considered one of the best in the industry. The objective of the course is to to teach you the basic principals and concepts of diving. The mini quizzes throughout the course are designed for you to assess what areas you may be weak on. The value of this is that when we enter the pool for the training dives both you and your instructor know what your level of understanding is and what areas we will work together on.

STEP 3: POOL WORK Prior to certification as a PADI Open Water Diver, you ll begin your in water training with nautidiver. We will do a Quick Review to confirm your understanding of safety-related material from the course, and then you must successfully complete five confined water dives before proceeding to the four open water training dives with your PADI Instructor. You learn and master each of the required skills in confined water (swimming pool-like conditions) first before moving on and showing your instructor that you can comfortably repeat those skills in open water. Progress in the pool is very quick and although there are a number of skills to learn many are linked together and follow a natural progression throughout the course. For example, a key skill to learn is to be able to remove, replace and clear your mask underwater. This is broken down into a few skills. On confined water dive one you will learn how to clear a partially flooded mask, during dive 2 you learn to clear a fully flooded mask and during dive 3 you will learn how to remove your mask underwater and breath without your mask for one minute and then replace it and clear it. Swimming underwater without a mask. Removing and replacing the scuba unit while underwater Removing and replacing the regulator underwater How to share air with a dive buddy

How to tighten a loose cylinder strap underwater To remove and replace your mask underwater To swim underwater while sharing air To breath from a free flowing regulator while underwater Mastering buoyancy No mask swim neutrally buoyant Removing and replacing weight system underwater Nueatral buoyancy and finning techniques

POOL LOCATION There are a few options available. Option one: We use the pool at Tallaght Leisure, Fortunestown Way, Dublin 24. This requires 5 pool dives done over 5 weeks. Each session is around 2 hours which includes 1 hour in water. Option two: Also, in Tallaght Leisure. This requires 5 pool dives done over 3 weeks. The first session for confined water dive 1 (CW1) is around 2 hours which includes 1 hour in water. The second and third session, covering dives CW2 and 3 and CW 4 and 5 are done as double sessions and take 3 hours. Option three: This is done over a Saturday and Sunday. This takes place in Waterworld Dive Centre in Castlegregory, Co. Kerry. There are a number of advantages to doing this as the student is completely immersed in diving for the weekend. Also, we have no time pressure on the pool the training session can last as long as you like. NOTE: There is no additional course cost for this. However, all travel, accommodation and meals are at your own expense. STEP 4: OPEN WATER DIVES The OPEN WATER dives are done over 2 days involving 4 dives. Over the 4 dives you will demonstrate some of the skills you have mastered in the pool and also get the opportunity to experience deeper dives. Dive 4 will bring you to a maximum depth of 18m. Unlike, the pool, in the open water you will wear full dive wetsuits of between 7 and 14mm depending on water temperature, hood, booties and open heel fins. You will carry more lead (weight) than you have trained with in the pool. The Open Water dives are where you begin to log your dives. Using your nautidiver log book (part of the course materials) you will be shown how to log dives and to see the value in doing so. Small group of trainees underwater navigation swim with compass

Hail rain or shine Portroe is ideal Dive to a maximum depth of 18m during your Open Water dives Practice the skills first on the 5m training platform in Portroe CESA (controlled emergency swimming ascent) training Mask removal and replacement Enjoy a tour around after eah set of skills Skill training on the platform A visit to the underwater bar is a must.

All classes in the pool and open water are kept small. Generally, no more than 4 students per instructor. LOCATION OF OPEN WATER DIVES: We use Portroe Dive Centre in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. This is an all weather fresh water site with water depth of 40m. Which is significantly deeper than we will be going on the Open Water course. It has been developed as a diving training center. This facility allows us to train divers all year round and has permanent training fixtures in place to do so. WHAT DOES THE COURSE COST? The costs are outlined below: PADI Open Water elearning option PADI Open Water Manual and DVD 595.00 (Inc VAT) 645.00 (Inc VAT) What is included: All equipment hire and training materials Log Book What are the extra charges: Any charges other than the training manuals and equipment are extra. The most common extras are as follow: - If you choose option 3 for the pool training than the extra travel, accommodation and meals etc are costs covered by you. - PORTROE DIVE CENTRE Each student must pay an annual membership to PORTROE DIVE CENTRE which is currently 15 per year. - PORTROE DIVE CENTRE All members must pay 20 per day to use the facility. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER CERTIFICATION? At nautidiver our objective is to keep divers diving. Once you ve qualified the best teacher is experience. We organise dive weekends throughout Ireland with regular weekend Safaris to Oceanaddicts in Kinsale, Waterworld in Castlegregory and Scubadive West in the Kilary Fjord. In March and November each year we travel to Safari Diving in Lanzarote. We can hire you equipment and also offer advice on purchasing your own equipment new or used. We are not a commercial club, in fact we are not a club. We are a group of divers who enjoy diving and are happy to welcome and encourage new divers to maximise their diving experiences.
