Below is some information for the 2017-18 season. YANKTON AREA ICE ASSOCIATION Yankton Area Ice Association was formed in 2005. Yankton Area Ice Association is a non-profit organization. Almost all of the programs are organized and ran by volunteers. Information on YAIA can be found on its website http://www.yanktonice.org. The YAIA handbook is posted on the website. http://www.yanktonice.org/boarddocuments YANKTON FIGURE SKATING Information regarding the Yankton Figure Skating program can be found at www.yanktonice.org/figureskating. This includes information on schedules, skating levels, registration fees, coaches, performances, and competitions. Yankton Figure Skating is a registered member with ISI (Ice Skating Institute). ISI individual membership is for skaters of all ages and abilities, from beginning to recreational to competitive levels. Part of the registration fees for YAIA is applied towards the ISI member for all figure skaters. Once a figure skater is registered with YAIA, they automatically become an individual member of ISI. This program is used to determine which elements are needed in order to pass through the skating levels. Those levels can be found on the www.skateisi.com com website and on the bulletin board. Skaters will receive badges and/or certificates when they pass each level. The YAIA handbook is also posted on the website. http://www.yanktonice.org/page/show/848830-boarddocuments SPORTS ENGINE (NGIN): In order to register for any of the ice programs of YAIA including the Yankton Figure Skating program, you must have an NGIN account. This requires a valid email which will be used for YAIA to send all email communications and track Volunteer Dibs credits. To register for an NGIN account, go to: https://login.sportngin.com/users/registrations/new?form=182870838. There is no cost to have an NGIN account. PRIVATE LESSONS: Skaters in levels pre-alpha and above are eligible to take private lessons from any of our professional coaches. Private lesson times and fees are dependent upon the coach. Private lessons are scheduled during the figure skating practice ice and private lesson times. RENTAL EQUIPMENT: Yankton Figure Skating offers a rental program for skates and protective pads. Rental items must be paid during the registration process or prior to your skaters taking the ice. Days to rent and pick up equipment will be posted on the YAIA calendar on the website. Parents will sign a rental agreement indicating that all rental equipment will be returned prior to the end of the season or they will pay the full price for the equipment. Rental equipment prices are as follows: o Skates - $30/season o Butt & Knee Pads Beta and above level skaters - $15/ea/season o Leotards no rental charge but these are to be returned at end of season or you will be charged for the leotard Equipment return will be during the last full week of the season or during the Year-end banquet. Parents will be billed the full price of the equipment if items not returned by March 31st Please use a towel to wipe off your skate blades after every practice. It is recommended to get skate soaker guards to place over your blades once they have been wiped off. This prevents the blades from getting rusty. If you do not have soaker guards, wipe the blades off and wrap then in a dry, terry cloth towel. LOCKERS Lockers are available on a first come-first serve basis. If you would like to keep your skating items in a locker, please grab an open one while they are available. If you keep rental skates and pads in the locker, you must purchase a lock and keep the locker locked when not in use. FUNDRAISING YAIA is a non-profit organization ran by volunteers. Fundraising is necessary in order to keep registration fees affordable. Participation in fundraising is required for skaters in pre-alpha and higher and greatly encouraged for our learn-to-skaters. Dollars raised during our fundraisers help to keep our registrations low, cover ISI fees, pay our coaching fees, pay for rental equipment and cover the cost of ice time. Fundraising Calendars. This fundraiser is a YAIA requirement set by the board for all skaters registered in levels Pre-Alpha and above. Skaters must sell a specified number of calendars based on their skating level. These can be found on: http://www.yanktonice.org/figure-skater-fee-structure Other fundraisers include our annual rummage sale, Pizza Ranch fundraiser, Roses-Just-Because plus additional ones determined by the Fundraising Coordinator and approved by the YAIA Board of Directors. VOLUNTEERING: YAIA is a nonprofit, parent-run organization. In order to provide a quality program, we must rely on all of our parent members to help the association run smoothly. Information regarding volunteering can be found on the website at : http://www.yanktonice.org/volunteer Each family with Mini-mites and above in hockey or Pre-Alpha and above in figure skating are required to work. A list of jobs that earn credits/points is available under the Volunteer Tab. Points per task can be found in the YAIA Handbook. Points system is effective for the period of April 1 to March 30. Skaters in Pre-Alpha and Alpha are required to complete 10 dib credits. Skaters in Beta and above are required to complete 35 dib credits. Usually one hour of volunteer work equates to one dib; however some volunteer work accounts for more credits per hour such as concessions. A Deposit check postdated to 3/1/2018 is required when registering to cover the dibs. This check is destroyed at the end of the season if the dib credits have been fulfilled. o Note: All credits must be fulfilled or your check will be cashed. Dibs cannot be completed on a pro-rated basis. Learn-to-Skate parents and skaters are encouraged to help and volunteer but are not required to complete dib credits. Parents don t have be the only ones to volunteer. We encourage the skaters to volunteer as well as other family and friends for duties. You don t have to do just figure skating volunteer items. Any volunteer can help with any Dib item. Volunteer dib items can be found on Dibs link on website. Log into your NGIN account and click on the Dibs link (http://www.yanktonice.org/dib_session) to see the available dib items. Dib Items are added often. These include volunteer duties in: Concessions Cleaning Zamboni Private parties Competitions Performance Marketing/Fundraising Scheduling Gate/ticket takers Special Events Plus many more.
