Introduction from Don Rimmer, Chairman, Litherland REMYCA Football Club Hi everyone, I m Don Rimmer and I am Chairman of Litherland REMYCA Football Club, a club established in 1959 who have been consistently based in the Sefton area providing access to community football for local players for over 50 years. Over the last 5 years in particular this club has undergone a steady evolution and we are now proud members of the North West Counties League having joined the Football Associations Non- League pyramid in 2014 having made the step-up from Local leagues. We have a total of sixteen teams ranging from Foundation stage U7 s playing in local leagues tour Senior team playing in the North West Counties, we also have a veterans side, reserves and girls and open age women s teams all playing under the Litherland Banner. We are based in Litherland Sports Park and represent the area over a 100 square mile radius from as far south as Eccleshall in the Midlands to Holker in Cumbria. We are a small club but making big strides, we are already FA Charter Standard but very soon we are also hoping to be FA Community Charter Standard, a status held by very few clubs in the North West, We are looking to develop not just on the pitch, but off it, we are looking to increase our presence in bricks and mortar by way of building Community Football facilities on one of a series of identified sites within the Borough. To achieve our goals we will apply sound business principals to ensure we remain a sustainable club. Our vision is to develop as a community sports enterprise, recognising the added social value sport can provide in the Community whilst operating on a not for profit basis. Our engagement in the Community is key to all we do. We are actively involved with local schools and colleges and have an ethos of adopting charities and supporting worthy causes alongside our main focus of Football Development So why an invitation? Well we are looking for sponsors, community partners and business support. We are offering sponsorships ranging from 10 to 1000 which will all assist us in continuing to support our teams across the board and our community projects. We won t hassle you by sending suit wearing salesmen out, this booklet shows you who we are, where we want to go and what we have to offer. We would like to get you involved with us with any of our sponsorships and schemes so have a look at what we have to offer and feel free to get in touch with me direct at chairman@remyca.co.uk and I will invite you along to the club or one of our games as a guest, or we can just have a chat over the phone. Thanks for taking time to see who we are and I look forward to hopefully speaking to you soon. Cheers, Don Rimmer

Who are Litherland Remyca Football Club? Litherland Remyca Football Club started life in the Seaforth area of Liverpool as St Thomas F.C. (1959) playing in the Church of England League. Players were recruited mainly from Seaforth and Bootle and the team later became known as Bootle C.L.B. (Church Lads Brigade). The founder members of Remyca Utd, Bill and Ken Edwards, acted as managers having recently given up their playing careers. The area, predominantly working class, provided an abundance of talented amateur players and links were formed with Bootle YMCA which provided a club base and facilities to train. In 1967 the team again changed its name to REM Social as a local workingman s club offered to finance the running of the club. One year later REMYCA UTD F.C. came into being, the name derived from connections with both REM Social Club and Bootle YMCA. The team entered the Third Division of the I Zingari Alliance League and became Champions at the first attempt. Thereafter, successive championships followed culminating in acceptance into the I Zingari League that was regarded as a higher standard of football. The First XI made steady progress through the divisions earning a reputation for playing open and attractive football. The I Zingari Challenge Cup was claimed in the 1975/76 season as Remyca Utd began to establish itself as a force within amateur football on Merseyside. The formation of a Premier League led to the club being invited to become inaugural members. This demanded improved playing facilities and the club left its spiritual home at Moss Lane, Litherland to move to Maghull High School. Remyca Utd became the I Zingari League Champions in the 1987/88 season and in 1991 became one of the few Merseyside Teams to win the all Lancashire FA Amateur Cup. The 1990s was a significant period in the club s history, and the most successful, as both Premier League and Cup doubles were achieved in seasons 1993/94, 1994/95 and 1995/96 followed by again winning the Challenge Cup in the 1998/99 season. It also added the Fred Micklesfield Cup in 2008/09 to the list of trophies won. Under various names and guises, Remyca Utd has been established for close over 50 years. Remyca Utd are now based at Litherland Sports Park, which is one of the finest facilities within the region providing a wide range of activities for all ages and abilities, encouraging use by the local community and performance athletes alike. In 2013 the Management Committee of REMYCA began exploring the potential to grow and develop the club. Social and cultural changes had impacted on grass roots football with many teams, clubs and even leagues folding due to lack of support. The basis for a sustainable club was clearly a community based model offering football opportunity with good coaching to all ages from 7 years upwards. The first stage of the new development plan was to add Litherland to the club name so as to identify with the local area and enhance the community ethos of the club. A key appointment was Colin Begbie as head of youth development who s experience and network of football contacts has proven invaluable. The longer term plan is to achieve Community Charter Standard status and the journey has commenced extremely well. In line with aspirations to compete at the highest level the club applied to be promoted to step 6 of the Football Pyramid and enter the North West Counties Football League. An amazing year of development also witnessed the junior section grow and women s Football will be introduced. There are currently 14 teams from under 7s to Veterans playing under the REMYCA banner, a fantastic achievement and testimony to the passion, commitment and hard work of a fantastic group of people. There efforts have been rewarded by winning Merseyside Charter Standard Club of the Year also picking up the regional prize North West Charter Standard Club of the Year.

The North West Counties League The North West Counties Football League was formed in 1982 with the amalgamation of the Cheshire County League and the Lancashire Combination. Initially there were three divisions, but at the end of 1986-87 season, this was reduced to two. The North West Counties Football League covers a geographical area stretching from Cumbria in the North, through Lancashire, Cheshire, Liverpool, Manchester and parts of Derbyshire, down to Staffordshire in the South, but the League has also welcomed clubs from North Wales and the West Riding in the past. Altogether, almost 100 clubs have enjoyed membership of the NWCFL, with 16 of our current constitution being founder members. The League operates Premier and First Division, in which Litherland Remyca compete, plus the North West Counties League Challenge Cup open to all clubs and a First Division Trophy. In addition the league also operates a Reserve League and Cup competitions. In the short history of the League, many clubs have excelled in our own, and national, competitions, particularly the FA Vase where we have provided a host of finalists and four winners; St Helens Town, Colne Dynamoes, Nantwich Town and Kirkham & Wesham claiming the prestigious silverware. Fleetwood Town was our first finalist in 1985, losing to Halesowen Town, before the all-north West Counties Final between St Helens Town and Warrington Town in 1987. Next were Colne Dynamoes who beat Emley in 1988 and then Clitheroe, who were beaten by Brigg Town in 1996. In the FA Cup, the League is regularly represented in the latter qualifying rounds, and Newcastle Town became the last of our clubs to reach the First Round Proper in 1997, bowing out to Notts County at the Victoria Ground, but ex-member clubs Horwich RMI, Penrith, Colwyn Bay and Stalybridge Celtic have also reached this stage. Whilst the North West Counties League is regional, Litherland REMYCA are only six promotions away from the Football League, it can be done and quickly, Fleetwood Town did it and AFC Fylde are close to following them into the League system. The last couple of seasons have seen a number of new clubs join the league, with Hanley Town, Widnes and 1874 Northwich joining in 2013-14, and this season Barnton, Litherland REMYCA and Cammell Laird 1907 take their bow in Division One. Despite many changes in clubs and personnel over the years, and on-going challenges presented by the economic climate the League's competitions continue to thrive and attract interest both locally and further afield, which is borne out by the ever rising number of visitors to the league website, and the continued demand for information from media organisations. Most important of all, the League's competitions continue to provide excellent entertainment on the field, and foster friendship and camaraderie between clubs and their supporters off the field and long may that continue.
