Since 2006-07, the Eagles have won nine of the last 10 home matchups with the Tigers. The teams split games last year, with each winniong on their home floor. THREE-POINT STREAK GOES ON Morehead State has made at least one three-pointer in 364 consecutive games, dating back to Feb. 13, 2007 when the Eagles had an 0-for-17 day versus Jacksonville State. WE LL TAKE EM FOR FREE In the last five games, Morehead State has been extremely accurate at the free throw line, hitting 78 percent. The Eagles are 91-for-116 at the stripe in that span. TOP GUNS While the Eagles have hit free throws with pinpoint preciseness lately, they have also been shooting the three-pointer well lately too. In the last four games, the Eagles have nailed 35 triples on 86 attempts, or 40 percent. Just in the last three games, MSU drilled nine treys each game. DEFENDING THE LONG THREAT TOO Morehead State still leads the OVC in three-point percentage defense in conference games. The Eagles only allow their league foes to hit 31 percent (66-of-213) behind the arc. On Jan. 25, MSU limited OVC leading scorer and top-five three-point accuracy shooter Jonathan Stark of Murray State to just 1-for-8 from behind the arc. The Eagles are also 6-1 when they hold onto an advantage with five minutes left in the game. LAMONTRAY IS EN FUEGO Junior forward Lamontray Harris leads the Eagles with 14.0 points per game in OVC contests and has scored in double figures in seven of the last eight games. Harris had double-doubles in four straight games from Jan. 11-20. He became only the third Eagle player since 2010-11 to accomplish that feat, joining Dejaun Marrero (2016-17) and Kenneth Faried (2010-11). DJIMON IN THE ROUGH Sophomore guard Djimon Henson, who comes off the bench now, led the team with 16 points at Austin Peay. He ranks second on the team with 11.0 points per game and has 11 double-figure scoring efforts this season. BALANCED ON OFFENSE The Eagles boast four double-figure scorers on average and all four are within 1.5 points of each other. Jordan Walker leads the way with 11.5, and now junior guard A. J. Hicks is at 10.0 per game. HOME COOKING MSU owns a plus-10.8 scoring margin in its eight home games (where the Eagles are 5-3). MSU also has a plus-17.1 rebounding margin in the games played at Johnson Arena. The Eagles shoot 47 percent at home as well. HELPING HANDS Junior guard A.J. Hicks has dished out at least one assist in all 21 games this season and leads the Eagles with 3.9 helpers per outing. WE VE BEEN PRETTY GOOD LATELY Since 2008-09, Morehead State has had five 20-win campaigns and made five postseason appearances (2 NCAA, 3 CBI). The Eagles advanced to the championship series of the CBI in 2015-16, taking Nevada to the final game of the three-game set before falling. He then guided Morehead State to a 12-9 record the rest of the way and a 10-6 mark in OVC play, which ranked second in the league. His duties included film breakdown, creating and maintaining playbooks, assisting with opponent scouting and day-to-day operations. Spradlin earned a bachelor s degree in history from Alice Lloyd (Ky.) in 2009 and master s degree in kinesiology and health promotion, with a sports leadership emphasis, from Kentucky in 2011. He was a four-year men s basketball letterwinner for the NAIA Eagles from 2005-09. Spradlin, a 2005 graduate of Betsy Layne High School (Ky.), is married to the former Misty Tackett. CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. Despite cutting the host team s lead from 28 to five, the Morehead State men s basketball team could not overcome a hot-shooting first-half by the Govs Saturday night at Austin Peay in falling 92-76. A 25-6 run from the 18:30 mark of the final half down to the 11:30 mark pulled the Eagles to within 10 (59-49), and later the Eagles cut the Govs cushion to as low as five (68-63), but Austin Peay built its hefty lead by shooting 58 percent from the floor in the first half. We told our guys Austin Peay is a physical team, and we must drive the ball to score, said head coach Preston Spradlin. We knew it was going to be an absolute war in the paint, but unfortunately we didn t come ready to do any of that. Morehead State slipped to 6-15 overall and 2-8 in the OVC, while APSU moved to 12-10 and 7-3. For the second straight game, MSU scored more than 50 points in the second half. Sophomore guard Djimon Henson paced the Eagles with 16 points, while junior guard A.J. Hicks poured in 15 for his second straight double-figure game. All of Hicks markers came in the second half. Sophomore guard Jordan Walker also got to double-digits with 10. Freshman forward James Baker posted career highs of 10 points and seven rebounds. The game was marred by 62 fouls as both teams combined to shoot 75 free throws. Four players fouled out for Morehead State. You have to commend our young guys who came in and fought when we were in foul trouble. It was tough not to have two of our post players on the bench with five fouls, said Spradlin. We ll learn how to play through contact and post the ball better in case we see this team again. Austin Peay finished with a 57 percent shooting accuracy, while the Eagles concluded at 38 percent. Terry Taylor led all players with 23, while Dayton Gumm put in 21 for the home squad.
