2019 DANCE FESTIVAL Message from the Chair of the Dance Advisory Committee Welcome to the 26th Annual Kiwanis Dance Festival! Now preparing for our 26th year, we are pleased to have created an environment that is warm, inviting and professional such that we continue to welcome a group of long time and new participants each year. This will be our fourth year at the Richmond Hill Performing Arts Centre, which continues to please our participants, adjudicators and staff members. Truly it s worth the drive to Richmond Hill for the fabulous facilities at this site. Please take some time to read the syllabus, checking to ensure that you are familiar with the rules and regulations. We continually review our syllabus in order to keep it up-to-date and ensure it is meeting the needs of our competitors. We ve added some new categories Student choreography and Family dance (an opportunity for parents and students to dance together), so be sure to check out all the options listed in the category definitions. Just as a reminder on how to calculate ages for duets/trios/groups where the average age is not a whole number we will use the whole number. Therefore an average age of 10.4 is 10 and an average age of 10.8 is still 10. We hope this will alleviate some concerns about dancers competing against others of like abilities. I would like to take a few minutes to extend my thanks to all the teachers, coaches and staff workers, along with our volunteers, who work with the competitors throughout the year and/or ensure that the many aspects of the festival are taken care of. Without the efforts of all of you, this festival would never take place. Many thanks to our other supporters who graciously contribute to our scholarship program. Just a quick reminder that photography and recording in any of its many forms is not permitted. Best of luck to all our competitors, we look forward to seeing you in Spring 2019.
