All values are expressed i 1988 dollars. The easures of hutig effort used to alulate hutig values are fro the Suary Statistis Data Base (SSDB) for the 1987/88 seaso. The followig provides a brief explaatio of what eah of the tables shows ad how the values were derived. Table 1 is take fro the reselts of the 1983 survey of ohutig wildlife ativities: t suarizes the uber of proviial partiipats i the three types of ohutig wildlife ativities. Table 2 is also fro the results of the 1983 survey. t suarizes the total ad average aual uber of days spet i diret ad idiret ohutig wildlife ativities. Table 3 ad 4 give breakdows of estiated expeditures i British Colu,@ia by residet azd oresidet huters for the 1987/88 seaso. The estiates were ade by takig the average daily expeditures fro?. the 1981 survey updated to 1988 dollars ad applyig the to the estiated uber of huter days for the 1987/88 sezso. The estiates of residet huter effort for sall gae, uplad birds ad waterfowl were fro the 1981 s'lrvey sie the Huter Saple is uable to provide a udupliated estiate of effort for these speies. The 1986/87 deer huter days for the Kooteay ad Okaaga regios were used i the alulatios sie the separate saples of ule ad v5itetailed deer huters started i 1987/88 do ot perrr.it a udupliated estiate of deer hutig effort. Mayears of eployet refer to the uber of idividuals that are eployed for the equivalet of a full workig year as a result of spedig o wildlife related ativities. Table 8 ad 9 shows the average et eoor values of a huter day for residets ad oresidets aordig to regio ad speies. For residet huters, the values a be thought of as the axiu aout that huters.rould be willig to pay if it were possible to harge a daily fee or prie for hutig. the ase of oresidet huters, the values represet the aout that reais after the osts of supplyig goods ad servies to oresidet huters are deduted fro the gross expeditures they ake i the provie. f a ehaeet proposal is beig evaluated for the HCF, the values show i the table are the appropriate values to apply to the expeted irease i hutig effort to deterie the beefits assoiated with the projet. Siilarly, the average daily values a be used to assess foreast losses i hutig effort whe akig a itigatio or opesatio lai. Tables 1 ad 11 show the et eooi values assoiated with residet ad oresidet hutig by speies ad regio for the 1987/88 seaso. The values i these tables were foud by applyig the average daily values fro Tables 8 ad 9 to the uber of huter days for 1987/88. Table 12 gives the,,average et eooi values expressed i 1988 dollars assoiated with idiret ad diret wildlife ativities foud i the, 1983 survey. These are the appropriate values to use whe assessig expeted ireases i diret ohutig days due to a ehaeet proposal or losses i diret opportuities for a opesatio/itigatio lai. Table 13 shows the et eooi values of idiret ad diret wildife ativities. These values were foud by ultiplyig the uber of partiipats i idiret ativities by the average aual values fro Table 12; ad the uber of days of diret ativities by the average daily values fro Table 12. Table 14 shows the et eooi value assoiated with trappig by liese holders for the 1986/87 seaso. The et eooi values of trappig refer to the et ioe or reveue eared by trappers after the dedutio of their osts. Table 15 suarizes, fro the earlier tables, expeditures o differet types of wildlife related ativities. Table 16 suarizes the et eooi values assoiated with the differet types of wildlife related ativit, ies. The table also shows the preservatio values assoiated with wildlife. This refers to the aout proviial residets would be willig to voluta"ri1y otribute eah year to preserve the preset abudae ad variety of wildlife i B.C. This a be thought of as a ouse value of wildlife oposed of the values plaed o the existee of wildlife, the optio to use wildlife i the future ad the bequest of wildlife to future geeratios.
