ROUTE 66 COURIER PAGE 4 GARAGE TALES. This month the 1964 1/2 Mustang of Jim and Alana Velez is featured. In Alana s words : In the year 1964 my mother, Eleanor Weiss, bought this car brand new from Ralph Williams Ford in Encino, California. Jim and I had our 2nd date in this car when it was brand new and was one of only two times the top had ever been down. Today, the top has not been up since we restored the car. The car never left the San Fernando Valley from 1964 to 2000. My husband maintained the car for her all these years. In the year 2000, Eleanor passed away and we had the choice of a 5 carrot diamond or the Mustang as our inheritance. I took the Mustang, my sister took the ring. In 2001, my husband and son restored the car in what you see today. The car did not have any rust and had never been in an accident and been in the garage most of its life. Today the Mustang now has its own heated garage. My daughter-inlaw always wanted a red convertible Mustang, so thats what you see today. Various modifications and upgrades to the Mustang include the replacement of the original straight six engine with a Ford crate 302 CI V-8 which has a Comp Cam camshaft, Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock 600 CFM Carburetor, Mallory Distributor with Peridonics Ignitor and Coil. The engine exhausts through Patriot Ceramic Coated Tri-y headers and Dynomax mufflers. (Con t)
