The Monthly Newsletter of The Central Florida Metal Detecting Club June 2013 Scott D. Jackson, Editor (afab67@hotmail.com) From The President s Corner Recently, Mother Nature really played havoc with some parts of the country. A few months ago, Sandy beat the North East coast and only a few days ago, a record tornado ripped through Oklahoma. Our hearts go out to those that have been injured or lost loved ones or have endured incredible damage to their property. With hurricane season starting on June 1 st and extending through November 30 th, right now might be a good time for all of the members of the Central Florida Metal Detecting Club to take stock of our own disaster preparedness. Have you taken the time to locate important documents? Have you videotaped an inventory of your belongings? Do you have a plan just in case? We all know it could happen here so a least give this some thought. A little thought now might save a lot of grief later. On Saturday June 15 th we will have an Old Town Hunt in Sanford. During this hunt, participants travel to the various local parks or other sites and spend some time detecting alone or in small groups. At the designated time, everyone returns to the meeting point to display their personal finds. In addition, a planted fun hunt will take place. We ll have more specific details for you at the next meeting. *** We are instituting a brand new category for the finds table (Don t panic Rob!) This category will be for new members only. During their first year, a member may choose to enter his or her finds into the special category designed to encourage new member participation or place finds on the tables just as everyone else does. The process will allow for up to four entries (two per category) per new member. The categories will be as follows; general single item and general group items. The new member may choose up to two single items and up to two groups to enter each month. Winning entries in these categories will be awarded a certificate at the meeting and recognized by the entire membership. No points will be awarded in this category. All of this is subject to change as we learn the pitfalls!! Sometime during the next meeting, how about one of you reminding me to say a little bit about the Space Program? See you at the meeting, - Alan
