Party of the Century! Saturday, March 5 Thursday, March 17 Saturday, March 19 Sunday, March 27 Details inside... Sylvania Country Club is an inviting private club offering outstanding social & recreational facilities and activities that meet the year-round needs of members, families and guests.

Greg Hibbard General Manager As we head into March, we kick off our Centennial Celebrations with the Mardi Gras Party of the Century on Saturday, March 5 th. The evening starts at 7PM with Raymond A. Heitger s Cake Walk & Jass Band performing until 8:30PM. Class Act is the performing DJ and will be entertaining from 8:30 PM until 11PM. Chef Richard will roll out his New Orleans cuisine featuring (but not limited to) Seafood Gumbo, Crab Cakes, Chicken & Sausage Jambalaya, Jalapeno Cornbread Cakes and a magnificent Banana s Foster Dessert Station. Your hurricane drink, coat check and valet parking are all included. Check out the event details on the website calendar and make your reservation today! In March, our dining hours expand and we will be open for lunch and dinner on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and the March Madness NCAA basketball tournament begins on March 15. On those days and nights that we are open we will have all of the tournament action on the flat screens in the Centennial Grille Room and Teddy s Lounge. This year, our Irish Pub Night will be held in the Centennial Grille Room on St. Patrick s Day, Thursday March 17 th. In addition to a limited dinner menu we will feature some Irish favorites, both in food and drink. Everyone is Irish on St Paddy s Day! Come be a part of March Madness in the Centennial Grille Room, starting on the 17 th. It is hard to believe that spring is around the corner and Breakfast with Bunny is always the indicator that it is here. We will host this traditional fun event for kids on Saturday, March 19 th. Our annual Spring Brunch will also be a few weeks later, on Sunday March 27 th. This is a great brunch event for the entire family. In the last Board of Directors meeting, the directors approved increasing the 18% service charge for members a la carte dining to 20%. Most other clubs have 20-22%. We want to remain competitive and financially viable and this adjustment will help. Our master club calendar has gone to print and should be available in the clubhouse for you to pick up beginning March 10 th. Carrie Serber will have the calendars at her desk for pick up. There is one catch; members must provide their photo for their membership profile. So, if you do not have one in your membership profile, please bring or send her one. As part of our Member Recognition campaign the club staff is seeking photographs of every member. We currently have photos of about 60% of members. All staff members want to recognize you more frequently. Having the ability for every staff member to pull up your photo helps us provide personalized service! Lastly, I am pleased to announce that Ryan Baird has been selected as Sylvania Country Club s next tennis professional. Ryan has worked under Jeff Harst for the past three summers as his assistant. He is currently a tennis professional at Shadow Valley Tennis Club. Ryan was also the Tennis Director at Evergreen, Colorado Parks and Recreation and has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University (Ohio). He already knows most of the tennis members here at the club and I received many endorsements from them regarding his passion and skills in tennis programming. Ryan will begin his employment on April 1, 2016. Remember, more members make a better club so give your lead or referral to Carrie Serber and she will do the rest. Have a great March! Greg Hibbard

Dan Steinberg Club President VISION 2020 Dear Members, Can you believe that the year 2020 is only about three and a half years away? Since taking over as President of the club, I ve been thinking about the legacy I want to leave on our wonderful facility. I have a vision (dream) about what the club will look like in the year 2020 and wanted to share that with you. Over the next several months I plan on discussing this further with the Board, Staff and any members who would like to be involved. Imagine a completely revitalized clubhouse! Just look at what pride the Centennial Grille has provided us in its first year of operation. Our grill room has become the place-to-be and I think you d agree with me that it has been a substantial improvement. Couple that with our fine new Chef Richard and a wait staff that continues to get better and better and we re moving to become a restaurant of choice for our members and for them to bring their guests. So, the vision for the clubhouse would include a dynamic, renovated 19th Hole open to all of our members. This is one of the most beautiful rooms in the facility and should be used virtually every day throughout the year. Upstairs, a newly decorated Bamboo Room and Ballroom await members and guests up to 200 people throughout the year. Both rooms updated and tastefully decorated to not only match the beauty of the old clubhouse, but to bring them up to date with more modern trends. Moving over to the Ladies Locker Room, you ll find another complete renovation with everything updated. There s even an area for small fitness classes which have become very popular at our club over the last few years. The Men s Locker Room has been modified to add two Golf Simulators that are being used almost non-stop through the winter months. Additionally, all the common areas have been thoroughly cleaned, carpeted, repainted and re-stained. Fixtures have been updated and some new artwork displayed throughout the clubhouse. We are open year round and every room in the clubhouse is used daily. The partnership with the new ProMedica facility has brought many new members, but also keeps our dining rooms filled. The pool and tennis facility renovations that took place in 2015 have been a great source of new membership and have accounted for well over 100 net new Limited Memberships since 2015. We ve added pickle ball courts, the basketball court and other fun new areas for our youth. This year (2020 don t forget) we re opening the brand new Paddle Tennis complex complete with four lighted courts. Our club has been selected to host the 2021 State Paddle Tennis tournament which will shed even more positive light on Sylvania Country Club. Finally, the crown jewel of our property, the golf course, has completed the vision Drew Rodgers had several years ago of bringing our course up to the standards Willie Park, Jr. built the course upon over 100 years ago. We hosted the 2017 Ohio Amateur and the players liked our course so much they re returning again this summer. All of our greens and fairways have been reclaimed to their initial sizes. Mostly enlarged and no longer big circles, our greens have become the envy of every other course in the area. They are incredibly fun to play and their speed has been kept up at an expected level throughout the years. There are five sets of tees on every hole so that the long hitters are now playing the course at nearly 7,000 yards; yet, for others the course can play as short as 5,000 yards. Enjoyable for all ages and skill sets! CSAA Grounds Superintendent Steven Brown continues to amaze with his skilled care of our golf course and surroundings. #3 green has been leveled for much fairer play and the hill on #14 has been shaved down and the cart path removed to enhance its beauty and playability. But the most exciting aspect of the course is the new, state of the art irrigation system that will keep our course in tip-top shape... continued on next page

continued from previous page throughout the year. It is being fed by the large new lake to the left of #5, #6 and #7. #7 also plays as a more severe dog-leg to the right than previously. And yes, the garbage pile to the right of #7 has been completed removed and is now home to our nursery for future trees. The flood remediation work has been completed on holes #1, #2 and the driving range. Although not a 100% cure, there should be only a fraction of days lost in those areas due to heavy rains than previously. Plus, the newly sculptured fairways look great along with the completely new trail of cart paths throughout the course. Much has changed since the days not long ago when our beloved club was struggling financially, but now, we are on extremely strong financially footing with over 500 total members and virtually no debt. We re even putting a substantial amount away into a fund for future improvements. Is this pie-in-the-sky thinking? I don t believe so. I truly believe a finely crafted plan would be embraced by our membership. I d love your feedback and interest in participating in a special ad hoc committee (SCC-2020) which I m going to ask the Board to approve at the March board meeting. This committee will present a plan to the board by the fall of this year and to the entire membership by the end of the year. It will be comprehensive and very specific as to what will be accomplished if ratified by our membership. Golf Shop News March Golf Shop Hours: Sunday- Monday- Tuesday Closed Wednesday Saturday 9:00 am-5:00pm Tournament Sign-up: The golf shop will be taking reservations for the 2016 Old Pal tournament beginning March 16 th. Don t wait, sign up early! Call or stop by the golf shop to hold your position. Golf Balls: For the 14 th straight year, Sylvania is under the Titleist Exclusive Ball Contract. This means that we can only display Titleist brand golf balls. We do, however, have many other golf balls available. So, if you would like to play a ball other than Titleist (#1 ball in golf) let one of the golf staff know and we can order them in for you. Demo Clubs: Being a full service golf shop, most in stock golf clubs will be allowed to be taken to the range and/or course to demo. We will again allow this to happen, however, the policy for this year will change slightly. The golf staff will bill your account for all clubs leaving the golf shop and will credit your account and will give you a receipt for those clubs. When you return the clubs back to the golf shop, we will credit your account and again give you a receipt for that transaction. This process may be a bit more cumbersome, but it will allow us to better track our inventory. Thank you for your cooperation. I am looking forward to a great year! Jason Stuller PGA Head Golf Professional Welcome Brandon Williams to the SCC family as the Golf Shop s new Assistant Pro! Brandon Williams, originally from Burlington Kentucky, is an avid sports fan, most notably for the University of Kentucky Wildcats and the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. Brandon has worked at clubs such as Twin Eagles, Bonita Bay and Pelican Marsh in Naples Florida, Augusta National and most recently Inverness Club here in Toledo. Brandon enjoys playing golf with the members, junior golf, club fitting and all aspects of being an Assistant Professional. Brandon and his wife Michelle reside in the Old Orchard area with their son Ryle. Welcome Ryan Hill back to the Golf Shop! Ryan was born in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1999 his father s job relocated them to Toledo where he attended Springfield middle and high school. After realizing his true passion was golf he made the decision to attend the Golf Academy of America in San Diego, where he graduated with honors and received the president's award and the player's credential ribbon for passing his PGA playing ability test. Upon graduation, he worked at the Southpointe Golf Club in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. After a year in Pennsylvania, Ryan moved back to Toledo to be closer to family and to work as an outside operations manager at the Inverness Club. Ryan is on his second year here at Sylvania Country Club and is grateful to be back in the area. He is currently a PGA apprentice working to become a Class A PGA professional. When Ryan is not working or playing golf he enjoys exercising, hockey and skiing. Ryan loves the game of golf, especially watching players improve and seeing their excitement when they recognize their progress.

From the Membership Department As temperatures continue to rise, so do the number of membership inquiries! I m excited to report last week alone I received 13 names from members, our website and through Facebook. Thank you for your active participation in recruiting new members and as well as forwarding names of several past members that have expressed interest in returning to the club. I appreciate everyone pitching in to help in our recruitment efforts. I m expecting and prepared for a very strong successful March! I hope by now you have had a chance to visit the new website. We have been receiving consistent feedback and have been applying changes continuously that reflect your suggestions. One thing I d like to improve is the number of member experience and event photos. If you have any pictures you d like to add of your favorite Club memories, please email them to me and they will be included in the albums. I look forward to personally enhancing the member photo gallery through our many upcoming Centennial Celebration events. I will see you Saturday for the Mardi Gras Party!

Women's Tennis League Have you been taking tennis lessons? Have you been thinking of dusting off that tennis racquet & jumping back into the game? If so, then the SCC Ladies 2.5 tennis team is for you. Team practices start in early May and league play is mid May to late July one night a week. We play doubles and singles matches locally at SCC, Shadow Valley, UT, Toledo CC, & Perrysburg Tennis Center. But don't wait till May to pick up your racquet - join us for some indoor cardio tennis, play with the Pro, or tactical tennis drills right now. If interested in playing on the league, contact Michelle Walker at (330) 416-3034 or michelle.walker@yahoo.com to receive additional details as the season approaches. Ryan started playing tennis in 8th grade. Originally from the Toledo area, he played four years of high school tennis here in Toledo and a year on the club team at Miami University. Ryan began his teaching career after moving to Denver, Colorado in 2009. After teaching for two years out west, Ryan returned to Toledo and joined the Shadow Valley staff in 2012. In the summer months he has worked locally at Toledo Tennis Club. Ryan begins his first full season with Sylvania Country Club in April of 2016. In his time off the court, Ryan enjoys reading, writing, and all things sports. Welcome Ryan Baird, SCC s new USTA Head Tennis Pro!
