What a great turnout. Countless batches of pancakes were prepared and eaten along with numerous sausages, ham, and an assortment of desserts. There were many volunteers that helped make this event so successful. Too many to mention, specifically, for fear of leaving someone out. This event was not just about raising money for the club, but it was also about creating a day for family time. The turnout included many families who were there to enjoy a family breakfast together. I want to take the time to say thank you to those members and your guests for sharing your special day with family at the club. Camaraderie is a spirit of good friendship and loyalty among members of a group. That is just what we had this past month with our friends from the Maritime Yacht Club. We had an extremely successful sailing club meeting and potluck dinner. Everyone agreed that we had good discussions and suggestions marked by friendship and laughter while being creative to come up with innovated ideas for both clubs working together. On the note of moving forward, everyone seemed to agree with that. Thanks to all of you who attended the meeting. A big thank you to the sailing committee for organizing this event. We anticipate some very exciting projects in the year ahead that will benefit both clubs and all our members. A quick thank you for the members who attend the monthly meetings. We have been having a good turnout lately. I would like to see that this issue Committee News Mar and Apr Calendars Upcoming Events continue. Meetings are a good place to learn about the club while also having fun. We have had quite a few that took advantage of participating in the best poker hand initiative to get members to the monthly meetings. We really appreciate everyone s support. Good things going on at the club, take the time to enjoy them! Paula The most important part of our club is our members. We are blessed with a great community. House Committee Jim Kocian, Chairman As of February 23 we have served 1080 dinners, which puts us ahead of last year by 28 dinners. Thanks everyone for your patronizing of the club. Also want to thank the new apprentices for your participation on Friday nights, good to see all of you. Want to thank all those who joined us for the Swedish Pancake Breakfast. We served close to 300 adults and children. Especially want to thank all who worked for the breakfast; cooks, bartenders, dining room staff, dish washers, cashiers, the batter boy and our bar runner. It s a long day for these folks and they are greatly appreciated for all the time and effort it takes. Just a couple of friendly reminders, no hats in the dining room on Friday nights, and please clean up party bars and the tables in the White Swan Room when you leave to dine. It is a common courtesy for the next group to sit and enjoy. Thank you. If you have any needs or questions, contact me at 920905-1650. Page 3 Committee & Calendar Events Sailing Committee By: Randal Burnett The Sailing Committee wishes to report a successful potluck and joint meeting of the Manitowoc Yacht Club and Maritime Yacht Club on Wednesday evening, February 22, 2018. Approximately 30 people were in attendance. Italian themed dishes were prepared by assorted members and were found to be plentiful and delicious. Manitowoc Yacht Club Commodore Paula Feest attended the gathering and welcomed our guests. Sailing Committee Chair Randal Burnett and Maritime Commodore Brian Kulas spoke to the gathering about building stronger ties through increased regular interaction between our two organizations. The Maritime Yacht Club provided its schedule of 2018 activities and invited our participation. In other news, the Sailing Committee continues to explore ways in which to make our presence known again in the regional boating community. Members of the committee are in communication with area clubs regarding organization of an early season sailboat rally. Tentatively named the Chili Rally, we envision the event to incorporate a competitive chili cook-off component. Though still in planning only, we are Check out the club bulletin board for: hopeful this will become a successful beginning to future Manitowoc Yacht Club sailing events. We intend to again be part of that event, not only through providing the same level of hospitality to visitors from Michigan, but by involvement of sailboats from our very own Manitowoc Yacht Club (micro) fleet in the flotilla. Plus much more! Though our fleet may be small it s time to fly the club burgee again! Page Page 5 5 History of the Manitowoc Yacht Club By John Creagh Friday Night Dining Receipt Monthly Winner: February winner is: Eric Sitkiewitz Please Note: Above photo: This is a picture from around 1976 or 77. During this period a number of Manitowoc Yacht Club members had a very active fleet of 19 foot "Lighting" sail boats. This was Bob Wade's boat, he is the skipper, Bob Krowiorz and John Creagh are crewing. You will note the use of a cigarette being used to determine wind direction on light wind days as there was no fancy electronics on board. Left photo: This picture was probably from around 1983 or 84. The skipper and owner of the boat is Dr. Ron Schaper, and the crew are Bob Krowiorz and John Creagh. Our Yacht Club was a center for area sailing in the 70 s and 80 s as we had an active Lightning and Off Shore fleet. Races took place a couple of evenings a week and on weekends during the summer. So the club was often the center of activity during and following the races, or when we would host regatta s with out of town participates. Triple D s BBQ Rib Night Saturday, April 21-4-7 pm Ribs, homemade mac & cheese, homemade baked beans, corn bread casserole, rolls & dessert - Sign up sheet posted. Be courteous when parking your vehicle in the lot. If you are able bodied please allow our disabled members to park closer now during the winter months. Thank you.

Page 7 Reminders: Other Information Get To Know Your Member Meet Mike Miller Please submit digital photos to: mycwaves@gmail.com Like us on Facebook! As a member of the MYC I would like to say what a beautiful club we have with lots of great members! I would like to make a challenge to all members, new and old, to step up in helping to plan an event or possibly sponsoring an event. Signup sheets are not only for new apprentices. It's a little like riding a bike for the first time, a little intimidating at first, but once you have done it, you say, "wow" that was not bad at all!! Just think of the members you will get to know a little better and the knowledge you will learn about how our great club operates and what it takes to put on the events this club has to offer. It would be nice to see those hardworking members that take charge, working and planning our events, time and time, again a chance to sit back and enjoy an event for a change! Let's all chip in giving them a break they deserve. Did you know that Mike and his wife Jenny were apprentices last year? They have participated in many events down at the club with just one year under their belt. They have been right there, helping out wherever and whenever needed. Just this past month Mike took the lead on sponsoring steak night for the first time. He did such a good job, while enjoying it as well, that he has signed up to do another later in the year. You can find Mike and his wife Jenny not only at functions, but also on many Friday nights dining at the club. Take the time to introduce yourself to them. You will find out that they are just really nice people. We appreciate the positive influence they've had on the club. Stay informed: Attend the Monthly Membership Meetings! The 2nd to last Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm. Swedish Pancake & Sailing Potluck
