"Hailsham Harriers Ladies Team silver at Rye" The first of the Summer Classic Series of mid week races was held at the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve The course was an out and back flat road surface which normally would have been conducive for overall fast times but unfortunately the wind thought otherwise and runners therefore had to battle out initially with a considerable head wind with no windbreaks but thankfully on the return the wind assisted the runners to a fast finish much appreciated by the 192 competitors. For Harriers the ladies provided an excellent team performance with Annette Feakes (37th overall and 2nd Lady) and Juliette Sukoco(39th overall and 3rd Lady) almost locked together throughout the race with Fran Doe providing superb support to gain the team a silver in the team award with 283 points from Hastings AC. Sam Shanta continued his great form this year with an impressive 46th place overall and with Bill Fraser and Tim Bowler saw the mens team finish in 8th place with 283 points.the race was won by Geoff Pyrah from Guildford & Godalming AC in 32m59s and the ladies by Holly Wheeler from Hastings AC in 37m35s both good times for the blustery conditions. Guys Black & Red get everywhere. Just a note to let you know Cheryl & Myself are still running as you haven't seen us for a while, one reason was holiday and also Cheryl's foot injury following an operation, so what better way to test out her foot and fitness then running, so we trained up to Sunderland on Friday and ran the Great North 10k which started and finished at the Stadium of Light (home of Sunderland afc). once all 4 waves set off it was every one for their selves, Cheryl finished in a great time of 1:06:38 and a sore toe but says it was worth the pain, I finished in 51 min's dead on not bad as I was carrying a few pounds extra thanks to the holiday but i did manage to get on the front page of the local paper with the Black and Red vest proudly on display (see photo attached). You will be seeing us both running in Sussex very soon. Cheryl & Peter
