GET READY TO JOIN IN THE GAMES PARTY GET INVOLVED

A warm welcome 02 Your very own supporter s guide The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games is finally here. And, from small clubs to local businesses, we want as many people as possible to show their support. There are lots of official events going on all over the country. But, plenty of people are also organising their own events to celebrate this special occasion. If you re planning on doing something for The Games, then this handy booklet is for you. If you re a commercial organisation and you want to join in the The Games party, please skip to page 26 of this booklet, as the guidelines on pages 4-24 do not apply to you. On page 26, you ll find all the relevant information you need. As a large part of Glasgow 2014 funding comes from our official sponsors, they pay for the rights to use certain logos, names, icons, typefaces and photography related to The Games. Which means there are certain elements that can t be used. But, don t worry, there are still plenty of ways that you can show your support and join in the party.

04 There are lots of ways to show your support

There are lots of ways to show your support 05 Some ideas to get you started There are plenty of things that you can do to join in the Games party. Take inspiration from the Commonwealth and sport in general and, with those two broad themes, you can t go wrong. Here are some ideas for activities you could take part in. But, remember, these are just for starters. We re sure you ll have plenty more ideas of your own so be as creative as you like. The main thing is to have fun.

Some ideas to get you started 06 DECORATE A WINDOW USING THE BRIGHT COLOURS. MAKE BUNTING OR FLAGS. HOLD YOUR OWN MINI GAMES AT WORK OR SCHOOL. RAISE MONEY TO HELP LOCAL SPORTS CLUBS. DRESS UP AS SPORTS STARS FOR A DAY. HAVE A STREET PARTY USING FOODS FROM DIFERENT COMMONWEALTH COUNTRIES.

Some ideas to get you started 07 GET ACTIVE. WHY NOT TRY A NEW SPORT FROM THE GAMES? WHO S THE LOUDEST FAN? HAVE A COMPETITION TO FIND OUT WHO S THE BEST SUPPORTER. COMMONWEALTH-VISION SONG CONTEST. HOLD YOUR VERY OWN SPORT-THEMED SINGING COMPETITION. WHY NOT PLAN A DAY WATCHING THE SPORTS ON THE VARIOUS BIG SCREENS? CREATE COSTUMES FROM AROUND THE COMMONWEALTH.

There are lots of ways to show your support 08 Things to use Over these next few pages we ll take you through all the elements that you can use if you re creating any of your own literature (like posters, leaflets or displays) for a Commonwealth Games related event. From jumble sales to fund-raising parties, you ll find plenty of ways to bring life to whatever kind of event you re putting on. When it comes to talking directly about the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, please always refer to it as The Games or Our Games.

Colours 09 Perfect for brightening up any celebration, these are the four official Commonwealth Games colours. And you re free to use them on anything that you create. Here s an idea why not set-up four different sports teams, each dressed up in one of the colours? Pantone 186 Pantone 137 Pantone 3005 Pantone 354 True Red Triumph Yellow Heritage Blue 2014 Green Black C 0 M 91 Y 76 K 6 R 235 G 28 B 36 C 0 M 34 Y 91 K 0 R 255 G 162 B 0 C 100 M 30 Y 0 K 6 R 0 G 120 B 201 C 75 M 0 Y 100 K 0 R 0 G 175 B 63 White

Typefaces 10 When you need to tell people all they need to know about any event, there are two official Games typefaces that you can use. Here s an idea you could use the typefaces to create your own posters with messages of support on them. The Games abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ 1234567890 Futura The Games abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ 1234567890 Century Gothic

Motto 11 Bring it on is our rallying cry for The Games. It s what we want every supporter in the country to do and feel during The Games. And, we re more than happy for you to use this phrase whenever and wherever you want. Here s an idea why not make a giant banner and paint our motto on to it? BRING IT ON BRING IT ON BRING IT ON BRING IT ON

Imagery 12 Celebrate the Games by using amazing images of sport or athletes. You can use any images you like so long as you have permission to use them. In case you don t have any of your own, we ve provided selection of free sporting imagery that you can use in any of your literature. You ll find even more at www.glasgow2014.com/joinin Here s an idea you could make up a giant collage by covering a whole wall with all of the imagery.

Imagery 13

Flags 14 What better way to show your support than with a flag? And you can use all the flags from each of the Commonwealth nations and territories. All these vibrant colours perfectly represent the spirit of those taking part in the competition. Here s an idea why not bring an office or classroom to life by creating your very own Commonwealth flags?

15 A few things to avoid

A few things to avoid 16 To show your support, please don t use... As we mentioned earlier, some logos, names, icons, typefaces and images are only able to be used by our official sponsors. In the next few pages we ll take you through the elements that you re not able to use when showing your support for The Games.

Please don t use Logos 17 This includes all versions of the official Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games logo, plus other similar designs that cover a range of related events.

Please don t use Name & Typeface 18 The official name Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games can only be used by our sponsors. Any variations on this name are out too such as Glasgow 2014 or Commonwealth Games. But, don t worry, all you need to do is simply call them The Games or Our Games. 2014 Pro is a font that s been specially created just for the Commonwealth Games. For consistency and clarity, it can only be used on official games materials. But remember, you can use Futura and Century Gothic instead. The Games abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ 1234567890

Please don t use Pictograms 19 These simple sports icons are used to highlight particular sporting events. So, to avoid any confusion, they can only be used on official materials.

20 Please don t use Mascot & Tartan We all love our official games mascot, Clyde. But, we can t have him turning up everywhere otherwise it ll tire the poor fellow out. Don t use the Clyde font or visuals unless they have been provided in one of our handy toolkits. A games in Scotland wouldn t be complete without our very own tartan. But, please don t use it on anything you create, as it s for official use only.

21 A little extra help

A little extra help 22 Above all else, we want everyone to join in The Games party. And there are plenty of great materials here that you can use to show your support. But, the main thing is to have some fun. To help, in here we ll show you where you can go to download some posters and packs. And that s it. There s no need for you to get in touch with us. And no need for us to approve any of your work. All you have to do is have some fun and stick to the guidelines set out in this booklet.

# # Join in the Queen s Baton Relay 24 Be the loudest and proudest supporters by making up your own Queen s Baton Relay megaphones, headbands, banners and more from the Supporters Kit. glasgow2104.com/joinin STICK HERE LET S HEAR YOU Cut around the shape of the mask, then punch out the white holes and secure together with string. You can use varying lengths of string to make different sizes. Please print on A3 if possible, as this will make your megaphone much bigger! Cut around the dotted line, roll the megaphone over and secure on the tab marked stick here with glue or tape. 2014 SUPPORTER BRING IT ON COLOUR IN CLYDE Can you colour in Clyde? Ask mum or dad to help you look for a picture of Clyde so you can try and match all of the colours. Cut around the dotted line and secure to your top at each of the four corners with safety pins.

25 Information for commercial organisations

Information for commercial organisations 26 Everything you need to know about joining the party As we mentioned in the introduction, our official sponsors pay for the rights to use certain logos, names, icons, typefaces, and photography related to The Games. If you re a commercial organisation we still want you to join the party but there are restrictions on what elements you can use. Here are the ways that you can show your support for The Games. Use our selection of sporting imagery for non-promotional purposes only (see page 9 to find out more about this full Ts and Cs apply) Use the Commonwealth Flags in window dressing (see page 11 for a bit more information on this). If you are a tourism organisation you can use the Games Tourism Toolkit at visitscotland.org/games-tourism.aspx Just to let you know, you cannot reference The Games in any advertising as this is protected for our sponsors. These hints and ideas are for activating in local sales spaces only. Any plans that you have would need to be pre-approved by our brand team. You can get in touch with them at brandusage@glasgow2014 And, please bear in mind that any association made between the Games and your products and/or services must be authorised by the Organising Committee under the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Act 2008 (Games Association Right) Order 2009.
