Northwestern High School's inaugural competition featured 20 bands on Saturday and Western came away with top honors as well as Awards honoring Best Percussion, Best Auxiliary, Best Drum Majors, Best Music, Best General Effect and Best Visual. Indiana Blood Center blood drive will be held September 25th. 16 year olds can donate with a signed parent permission slip. 17 and up do not need a permission slip. This is an opportunity for scholarship applicants. Please note: school officials will base their scholarship selections based upon the following: 1. Volunteering One night Dec. 3, 4, 5, or 6. Signed Goodfellows form must be included with scholarship application. 2. Financial need 3. Community involvement 4. School involvement 5. Grade point and class ranking 6. Essay that answers the questions: 1. What is Goodfellows? 2. Who was Kay Deluise and why is her name on a Goodfellows scholarship? 3. Who is Jean Lushin and why is his name on a Goodfellows scholarship? Scholarship Opportunity for current seniors committed to Majoring in Education Information: David A. Gossman from American Family Insurance is committed to offering a $1,000.00 cash scholarship to one senior committed to pursuing a future in Education. Qualifications: Any student that will be a 2019 WHS graduate pursing a degree in education will be considered. The recipient of the scholarship will be selected from a committee. The committee s choice will be final. The committee will be looking for a student who is not only committed to the educational pathway after high school, but the student who has shown excellence in academics, leadership and character while at Western High School. Application: In order to be considered for the scholarship, the following information should be submitted directly to Mrs. Reel in Student Services: Letter of interest in the scholarship that includes why you should be selected, activities that you are involved within the school and community and where you plan to do your postsecondary studies Obtain a copy of transcript from Mrs. Reel and include in packet 3 Letters of recommendation One page essay on How you will make an impact to your future students All of the above items should be included in one packet. Battle of the Classes Homecoming Week Running point system throughout the week to provide a fun and competitive way for the Western High School classes to participate in homecoming activities. Every day: -SRT teachers will count how many kids of each grade in their class are dressed up and submit the data to Mr. Schmidt to insert into the point system. Class t-shirt sales will also be inserted into the point system. Each t-shirt sold is two points for your class. Donate money throughout the week in the jugs placed in your class sponsor s room Class Sponsors: Freshman: Mr. Bowers and Mrs. Bourff Sophomores: Mrs. Stephens and Mrs. Everett Juniors: Mrs. Metcalf and Mrs. Stewart Seniors: Mrs. Rodman and Mr. Conklin **The point system will be updated throughout the week and accessible for all students to view** Monday: Hall Decoration Competition 1st place- 50 points 2nd place- 40 points 3rd place- 30 points 4th place- 20 points Tuesday: Brain Games (kahoot style) during SRT (total # of kahoot points divided by 10 = the # of points that get added to your class total) Wednesday: Powder Puff game (each touchdown scored is 6 points for your class+2 point conversions) (Points are available for fans per grade that attend the game) Thursday: Dollar Wars ends (money is donated to Western High School Christmas fund) (clear jugs kept in class sponsor s room to show how much money each class has collected-put money in jugs during passing period)
