Subscribe Share Past Issues Translate Here's what is going on this month. Central Kansas Gun Club July 2015 Newsletter Quote of the Month As Democracy is perfected, the office of the President represents more and more closely the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be occupied by a downright moron. UPCOMING EVENTS August 10, 6:30p Board Meeting Club House H. L. Menken, American journalist, (1890 1956) August Board Meeting: will be held at the club house at 6:30 P.M. on Monday, August 10. Any interested

party is invited to attend. The Board has decided that henceforth attendance will be taken at the monthly and quarterly meetings and at the end of the year these names will be entered for a drawing for a gift card. The card will likely be sporting related. Might think about it. Membership Committee: For some time now an ad hoc committee has been carefully examining ways to improve our membership criteria. Members of this committee are President Trey Owston, Secretary Scott Barnhart, Shotgun Chairman Mel Ralston, former Secretary Harold Mauck and Safety Officer Jerry Maxfield. Mel has courageously agreed to act as Membership Chairman with duties as outlined in a previous newsletter. Please be patient and refrain from bombarding the committee with questions until such time as they have had an opportunity to do their work. Issues are still under consideration, and when conclusions are reached and proposals made, they will be laid before the membership. Club History: This is a plea to the club membership to help us fill in some blank spaces in the club history. Anyone who has anything on club history that they are willing to share with the club it would be greatly appreciated. Such items would include, but not be limited to, photographs, newsletters, club records, match schedules or results, flyers or anything related to the club and its affairs and activities. The period from the 1980's onward is pretty well covered but material, especially photographs, will certainly be accepted from this period. Copies can be made of anything you can share but wish to retain possession of originals. Please take a minute or two and look through your old stuff. Material should be sent or brought to Jerry Maxfield, 3 Wheatland Drive, Hutchinson, 67502. Many thanks. Discipline Chairmen:

Just a reminder to please get the work hours of new members reported as soon as possible and in writing. A Word of Thanks: This is due to member Steve Kinser for his work in ramrodding the recent road repairs on the range. This is not the first time Steve has taken charge of this important job. Youth Program: Youth will shoot these events at these times. Shotgun: Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:15 PM on the west trap field through September 24, 2015. Small Bore (rifle and pistol): Wednesdays 6:30 PM & Sundays 1:15 PM on the plinking range May 6 through September 30, 2015. Western Heritage/Cowboy Action: Monthly second Sunday 3:45 PM Cowboy Action stage/set May 10 through October 12, 2015 Muzzleloader: Monthly fourth Sunday 5 PM on the 200 yard shelter May 24 through September 30, 2015. Matches: August 8, 2015 Small Bore Rifle plinking range all day. August 29, 2015 Shotgun trap and skeet fields all day. Monitor the gun club website for changes ckgc.org. 3 Gun Program: They are still shooting the 3 rd Sunday of every month. Set up at 8:30, registration at 9:00 and firing to commence at 10 A.M. Your early appearance to

provide assistance would be greatly appreciated. Match fees will be $15 per shooter. Call Manuel M C Camacho for more information at (316) 284 1357 or manuel@mcsportingarms.com. Manuel has work available for new members needing hours. Action Pistol Program: August 9: 1) Advanced Military, 2) Moving Target Event (Modified), 3) Barricade Event, 4) Falling Plate Event. For information contact Greg Dick at (620) 669 8735 or (620)662 8481. Shotgun Program: Shooting on the first, third and fifth Sunday from 1 pm until done and Tuesday and Thursday from 4 pm till done. Shooting clay targets is a very cleansing experience. Tom Selleck High Power Rifle Program: July 25. 50 Round Match. Practice Leg or 100 Yd.: Temp. decides. Registrations start at 7:30 and are accepted until 8:15 on match day, and firing starts at 8:30 sharp. For information contact Regan Tabor at (316)200 4627 or frogx2@cox.net. High Power has work available. Regan also reports that the High Power shooters raised $150.00 for the M1 For Vets program at the June 6 match. Very good effort for a very good cause. Well done. The club has also previously made it possible for other disabled vets to receive an M1. Tactical Rifle: July 18. Format pending. Greg Krebaum will run the match. Contact Greg at (620) 662 7515 or krebaum@sbcglobal.net for details. Practice Night Schedule:

Practice Night Schedule: Practice nights for High Power will continue until October. These will be every third Wednesday for 600 yard practice from 5:30 pm until done, and every first Wednesday for 200 yard practice from 5:30 pm until done. The plinking range will be open during 200 yard practice, the south ranges closed during 600 yard practice. You must call Richard Reed ahead of time to verify the practice will be held, and to tell him you will attend. Practice will not be held if people are not known to be coming. Also, Richard's work schedule may cause cancellation if a substitute is not found. Call Richard to verify at (620) 755 2767 or peelsrick@hotmail.com. New Shooter Notice: New shooters are encouraged to come out and participate in the high power rifle matches at Central Kansas Gun Club regardless of prior experience. Rudimentary coaching and equipment will be provided and ammunition made available at nominal cost. Observation of matches to see how things work is free. You must notify the match director in advance so that equipment will be on hand. Cowboy Action Schedule: The cowboys are still shooting third Saturday of each month, and they have lots of work for anyone who may need work hours. Contract Richard Colvard at (620) 662 0603. Also the cowboys are still looking for a new chairman. Anyone wishing to step forward to help this very successful program please contact Richard and let him know. Let's not let a good program suffer for lack of someone to take the reins. Upcoming Emergency Services Tactical Shoot: Member Jason Hawk is getting together a shoot for emergency services personnel (Police, Fire, Sheriff, EMS, etc). Shoots will be on the north range(s) from

They do a number of shows in this area, including Hutchinson and Wichita. Be advised they have a no carry policy. Might save you a trip back to the truck. Footnote: July's board meeting was canceled owing to a tornado that formed to the west of the clubhouse. President Owston said There's no sense being stupid! So the board left pronto. Well, almost everybody. After the gate was closed Owston, High Power Chairman Regan Tabor, Action Pistol Chairman Greg Dick and Safety Officer Jerry Maxfield delayed long enough for Owston, Tabor and Dick to get some great photos of a gorgeous tornado on the ground if a tornado can be said to be gorgeous. Ask the guys to see the pictures. They'll be worth a peek. Parting Shot: You may not like guns, and choose not to own one. That is your right. You might not believe in God. That is your choice. However, if someone breaks into your home the first two things you are going to do is 1) call someone with a gun, and 2) pray to God they get there on time.
